Have a Nice Death: The Loyal Sorrow
A fan-fiction and alternate prologue to "Have a Nice Death" featuring Mori Calliope from Hololive English -Myth-
Author: Lee Shade
A long time ago, an entity known as "Death" (or better known as the Grim Reaper to some) was tasked with sending the spirits of the dead into the afterlife with the help of his trusty Pitbook, which records the souls he reaped. Over time, however, as population on earth grew larger and more widespread, Death became weary of his task and came up with the idea of having others assist him with his work. Thus, he created the Sorrows, lesser but powerful entities that would roam the world and gather up spirits of the deceased to pass to Death himself, who would review those spirits and approve their entry into the afterlife.
Things were going well at first. So well that the soul-reaping and send-off process developed into a more business-like style and lead to the birth of "Death, Incorporated"; but with no one to keep a close eye on them, the Sorrows soon started taking the souls of the living by force before their time by causing so-called "accidents". The number of souls sent to Death became far more than he could keep up with, causing him to undergo a gradual yet debilitating transformation.
Meanwhile, there is one Sorrow who took interest in the living realm and started taking a side job there as a sensational online idol. Her name is Mori Calliope. While she loves interacting with the living realm and her loyal fanbase the Deadbeats, Calliope continues to work diligently for Death, keeping up with only the souls she has to reap. One day, she went into Death, Inc. with the souls she gathered to her master/employer Death. But what she found in his office that day were endless stacks of paperwork as tall as skyscrapers; and among them was a short scrawny figure in a suit lying unconscious and half-buried under a pile of documents looking rather pitiful. Being the kind person she is, Calliope dragged the person out from under the pile.
As soon as the small skeletal being came to, he was shocked to learn Calliope didn't recognize him. The entity, then, confirmed himself to be Death. Embarrassed, the surprised shikigami apologized for not recognizing her master. Putting aside the Sorrow's previous misconception, Death explained there has been an unusual amount of souls being reaped lately and asked Calliope to investigate the cause while he tries to recover his strength.
After overhearing the other Sorrows of their illegal gathering of living souls, both Mori Calliope and Pump Quinn (Death's current intern) hurried back to Death's office to report the misconduct. Upon hearing that the rest of the Sorrows had betrayed him and continued to cause problems in both the living realm and in the organization, a fiery rage burned bright within Death; and the surrounding mountains of paperwork incinerated into ashes in his wrath. Donning his dark shadowy cloak and beckoning his Pitbook and his scythe to his side, the dark entity stormed out of the office in a fury, leaving the pink-haired shikigami and the pumpkin-headed intern behind in the room littered of charred paper and ashes. Silent and stunned in awe.
And so begins Death's quest to bring order back into the living realm and in Death, Inc. as well as a long-deserved vacation…but that is another story.
The End
