I advise reading the prequel first before getting into this story. This is an AU where Charlie wants more than redemption, she wants to rebel against the angels who've mercilessly slaughtered her people for years. Even though she doesn't really care for violence, she cares about her people and will do anything to protect them, even convince them to fight against a greater evil. (Also, you might see a bit of my other AU's as well.) Now please enjoy Charlie's Rebellion.
(Cover art coming soon...)
Another year is coming to a close. Usually that would be celebrated with fireworks and loved ones by your side, as you hope for a brighter new year. However, in hell, this was not the case. There are no celebrations with colorful lights in the sky, or partying with family and friends. Tonight was the night to hide and protect the ones you held dear, and if you were unfortunate enough to be outside or not have a home, be prepared for the worst. This was the night of the yearly extermination.
Every year, Heaven sends down exterminators known as "The Exorcists" to purge the demons of Hell. Why you may ask? Well, because of Hell's overpopulation issue, Heaven decided to take initiative by killing a couple of demons on a yearly purge. Why would they even consider that solution, nobody in hell really knows... but the princess knew all too well.
Charlie Morningstar, daughter of the King of Hell, Lucifer, was invited up to heaven to explain her ideas of redemption. What she didn't expect was to be mocked, laughed at, ridiculed, and judged by the very people who claim to be good souls. Her feelings were crushed, but her dreams and motivation were not. It seemed that a more drastic approach was needed, but what on earth could she do?
The princess had a clear idea in her mind. If heaven wasn't going to take her ideas of redemption seriously, she knew something that would definitely get their attention. On the day of the purge Charlie wouldn't just hide away in fear. Instead she would fight back and kill The Exorcists. However, she knew she couldn't do it alone, so she put together a decent sized group of demons who were crazy, brave, or stupid enough to fight against The Exorcists. She even hired a demon from the black market to make special armor out of the melted down spears left behind in the purges, whom she paid generously. She also paid for the finest weapons from the black market as well.
I'll bet some of you are curious as to how her dear partner, Vaggie, felt about this idea. She was very supportive of course, but was still as cautious as ever. Even more worried for Charlie's safety. What if one day she bites off more than she could chew, and gets murdered by an Exorcist? Though Charlie made a promise that it would never happen, she still had her concerns. So she ultimately decided to join Charlie in her efforts, no matter how high the risks. She would put her life out on the line for her, if it meant keeping her princess safe.
Finally, the time came. The countdown to the beginning of the purge. Demons were warned to run, hide, and stay inside. Not Charlie, Vaggie, and her small group however. They were heavily armed, had protective armor, and a hunger for violence. Except for maybe Charlie and Vaggie. Nonetheless, the battle was about to begin. In ten seconds, hell would be flooded with Exorcists. The sound of 10 warning bells from the clock tower rang in everyone's ears as the countdown began, and in those few seconds, a million thoughts raced through Charlie's mind.
10. This is what I've been waiting for.
9. The opportunity to prove myself. To my people, my father, myself.
8. For years, I had to watch my people suffer.
7. As those monstrous beings took away their lives.
6. As they rained torture and mercilessness on their souls.
5. This is not the year. Nor will it ever be.
4. For my people...
3. For my family...
2. For Vaggie...
1. I will end this cycle. Once and for all.
Purge horns blared through the nearly cleared empty streets of Pentagram City. The barrier between heaven and hell parted as tons upon tons of Exorcists descended from above. Demons had their weapons and arms at the ready. Others coward in fear, prepared to run. Vaggie looked at Charlie who held her hand and smiled. She softly reassured her.
Charlie: We can do this.
Vaggie nodded and held her hand tighter. They both walked up to a group of exorcists.
Charlie: Hello there gentlemen.
They looked at Charlie who looked back with a mischievous smile.
Charlie: Remember me?
Charlie and Vaggie attacked the exorcists using their powers and weapons. Dodging their attacks with swift motions. The rest of the Exorcists stood there stunned. One snapped them out of it.
Random Exorcist: Why are you just standing there you idiots?! Kill these degenerates!
More Exorcists charge at Charlie and Vaggie who were more than prepared to take them down. Most of the other demons Charlie recruited fought them off as well while some of them ran in terror. Demons all over the seven rings who were safe and secure in their homes, watched the brawl on their TV's in shock, amazement, and surprise. Some of the overlords had their eyes locked on the battle happening before them, even the princes of Hell themselves were fully captivated by the battle.
Meanwhile at Lucifer's castle, Lilith watched the battle on a big screen in their private theater. It was definitely a shock to her, and she kind of felt proud of seeing her daughter slay the exorcists. Though her successfully recruiting an army to fight along side her was certainly not what she had expected. Her daughter's ideas never really inspired other demons or got them on board with her ideas. This time was different however, and it actually worked.
Lilith: Well... I must say... I haven't expected this. Luci, what do you-
She looked beside her to see an empty seat. Lucifer was nowhere to be found. He was out in the main throne room, commanding his minions and slaves.
Random Minion: Almighty dark lord, you want us to go out there? During that purge happening outside?
Lucifer: I don't believe I stuttered. Now go out there and retrieve my daughter immediately! Or else you'll all suffer a fate worse than those Exorcists could ever give you.
Lucifer threatened in his demonic tone. All the minions and slaves rushed out to retrieve Charlie. The king muttered under his breath.
Lucifer: What the hell does she think she's doing...
Back at the battle, it was seemingly endless waves of Exorcists coming from every angle. Charlie and the rest of her little rebellion were seemingly doing well taking them down. Then, a group of armored soldiers rammed their way through the battle to get straight to the princess:
Soldier: Princess Charlotte, you must come back to the castle. Your father demands it.
Charlie: Huh? Why?
Soldier: He gave no explanation.
Charlie: But-
Vaggie: Go, I'll handle the group from here. They're actually doing pretty decent... for a bunch of random, crazy lunatics you found on a whim.
Charlie: Okay love, I know you can handle it. I trust you.
Vaggie: Thanks hun, now go. It's probably safer for you to be at the castle anyway.
Charlie: Okay, but I'll try to be back to help you guys as soon as I can.
Charlie heads off with the soldiers back to the castle. Vaggie continues to head the group towards coming onslaught of Exorcists.
Lucifer: What the hell has gotten into you Charlotte?!
Charlie: What do you mean?
Lucifer: You know damn well what I mean! What the hell was all that outside?!
Charlie: A rebellion, dad. My rebellion. I think it's about time that we show those angels that-
Lucifer: Do you not know what you've done?! What you have started?!
Charlie: As a matter of fact, I do father. But I'm willing to take those risks.
Lucifer: A civil war against Heaven Charlotte! You want to start a civil war against Heaven!
Charlie: I know it's extreme, but how else am I going to get my point across? I've tried other solutions dad! I tried the peaceful route, but they wouldn't take me seriously, and it's clear that it would've never worked anyway! I'm tired of sitting around waiting for things to change. I'm tired of seeing my subjects being treated so unfairly. I'm tired of my ideas not being taken seriously! And I'm tired of no one ever believing in me, especially you! This is my chance to finally succeed at something, and I am! I'm making a difference, dad! Why can't you see that?
Lucifer: The only thing that you'll be making is trouble. Not only trouble with the rest of Heaven, but with... him.
Charlie: That's great! If this gets the attention of God himself, then that's definitely what I plan to aim for!
Lucifer was getting frustrated with his daughter.
Lucifer: No, Charlotte!
Charlie mumbled under her breath.
Charlie: Stop calling me that name...
Lucifer: You have to stop this, before you start planting ideas into the rest of the sinners heads!
Charlie: That's exactly what we need dad. To convince more sinners to join the cause, to fight against the angels! To create a bigger rebellion!
Lucifer: Charlie, listen-
Charlie: If more people believe in change, then change will come! Why can't you trust me for once?! Don't tell me you're OK with things staying the way they are!
Lucifer: Enough! There will be no more rebellions, and that is final!
Lilith: I don't know Luci. This might be a good thing.
Lucifer: What?! Don't tell me you're taking her side!
Charlie: Looks like it's two against one dad!
Charlie giggles.
Lucifer: It- It doesn't matter! I forbid you to partake in any more of these rebellions!
Charlie was silent for a moment, but then she smiled.
Charlie: You're right dad... it doesn't matter.
Lucifer: What???
Charlie: Cause no matter what you do, regardless if you forbid me or not, I have a strong feeling that my rebellion isn't stopping anytime soon.
At the battle, tons of dead exorcist bodies lay dead on the ground. Standing over them were Vaggie and the rest of the rebellion. Smiling victoriously, ready for their next onslaught hurdling towards them.
Hours and hours went by until the purge was finally over and the Exorcists that weren't killed ascended back to the Heavens, while the rebellion cheer victoriously for a job well done. Vaggie looked down at the shocking amount of dead exorcists at her feet. She smiled. Charlie's idea was successful. She couldn't wait to rush back to the castle to tell her lover the great news. Speaking of which...
Charlie: Vaggie!
Vaggie saw Charlie rushing towards her and ran to her as well. They hugged and shared a passionate kiss.
Vaggie: Well... we did it hun. We killed a lot of the exorcists while you were gone.
Charlie: That's wonderful hun! Sorry I couldn't be there, my father wouldn't let me leave until the purge was over. He thinks what I'm doing is a mistake. I mean, when does he not, right?
Vaggie chuckles at Charlie's statement.
Vaggie: I get it. Though... this probably won't stop them. They'll probably make more exorcists and do it all again next year.
Charlie: It's okay Vaggie, we did what we needed to. This was our sign. Our message. And if they didn't get it, then they'll face our fury come next extermination. Though I do feel bad we couldn't safe those poor demons that were killed.
Vaggie: Well you can't save everyone Charlie, and I doubt there'd be any safe houses or hotels that wouldn't run your wallet dry just so they could find a safe place to stay. I doubt that most of them even have the money to afford it, or money at all for that matter.
Just as Vaggie was saying that, Charlie felt a spark in her eyes.
Charlie: You know... that gives me an idea.
Hope you all loved this first chapter! I have a feeling this story might be my favorite one to write. For now, stay tuned for the next chapter!
