This is a coda/what if fic of the Dispatch Fire. It's mainly Bobby, Buck, and May centered. The whole FireFam is there as well. This takes place during the collapse and the after. We're going to follow the FireFam through the aftermath and recovery of the Dispatch fire. In this fic we will also see how the Grant-Nash's have adopted Buck into their family and how he's there with them and for them every step of the way.

"The team knows we're in here, they'll be here soon. You've got to hang on." May pleaded when she saw Bobby start to close his eyes. She heard yelling from the team and she felt the rubble shifting. "I hear them Bobby! I hear them! They're right there, we're going to get out!" she told him, her voice wavering from the emotion and the pain she felt. "Dad!" she yelled out, not caring who heard her or caring what anyone thought, this was her dad too. "Dad, I can't lose you!" she was crying at this point, she felt the hot tears roll down her cheeks. The mere thought of losing the man that she saw as a father. Losing him because of him having to save her.

Bobby's eyes snapped open when he heard her call him Dad. He hadn't heard her call him that before and the initial shock shook him to his core as he tried to breathe slowly. "May, whatever happens, know it's worth it because you'll be okay. You'll be safe and taken care of." he told her in a strained voice. Damn if he didn't hurt, he was sure that this was some kind of penance for the terrible things that had occurred to his family before.

"Dad! I won't be alright, I won't be alright if you're not here." May was crying now, she felt that this might be the last chance to speak to her dad. She heard the team as they were working on extricating them. "You can't leave me, damnit. You can't! I can hear Buck, I can hear the team out there," she was sobbing as she pleaded with him to stay with her.

"May.. I don't think I'm going to make it out of this one, kid," he told her in a broken voice, his eyes closing once again. "I love you, kiddo. I love all of you," he whispered as he felt himself fading. May was screaming louder at this point, she was yelling for her big brothers, for her Aunt Hen, for Chim, for anyone. She knew what was going on and she currently refused to accept it.

Buck had moved the last piece of rubble, seeing the man he thought of as a father, the girl he thought of as a sister laying down. "Dad! May!" he called out, not even realizing that he had called Bobby his dad. He saw Bobby barely hanging on, seeing May sobbing. "May, come on! We've got you." Buck, with the help of Eddie, reached out and picked up May by the arms, passing her off to Hen and Chim. Buck shared a look with Eddie before he reached down to help Bobby. Bobby was barely breathing, he opened his eyes when Buck and Eddie helped him to his feet. He swayed slightly, only to be steadied by both men at either side.

"Is she okay?" That was the only thing Bobby could ask, the only thing he cared to ask at the moment. Buck and Eddie looked to where Hen and Chim were checking out May, "Is she okay?" Buck spoke Bobby's questions louder, knowing they probably didn't hear their captain. She looked okay from where he was standing but he wasn't the one doing the triage.

Hen looked up and nodded. "She's fine, bruises and cuts, but she's fine," she told them as she approached the men standing there, holding Bobby up. She felt her breath catch and her blood run cold when she saw the look on the Captain's face. Her heart breaking as she looked at Donato, noting that she was there, being quiet. "Get May out of here. Now" she ordered the woman, not leaving any room for argument.

Donato nodded and she grabbed May, helping her walk towards the exit. She ignored May's yelling. "Dad?!" She called out, seeing that Buck and Eddie had shifted to lay Bobby on a backboard. "Dad!" She struggled against the newest 118 member. "I'm not leaving him!"

Buck, having been knelt down beside Bobby, shared a look with Hen. He had heard Bobby stop breathing. He compartmentalized it as he stood, letting Eddie, Hen, and Chim get to work on their fallen Captain. He knew they didn't call a code loudly, he knew they didn't want to scare May. "May, C'mon. Let's go." he told her, pulling her into a rough hug, shielding her from the team doing CPR on her father. He walked her out of the building, ever thankful that he could shield her from the worst of it. He helped her sit down on a gurney, sitting down beside her, wrapping her in his arms and holding her tightly. "May.." he started; his own voice breaking as he did.

May shook her head, tears falling down her cheeks as she let out a broken sob. She felt like she had swallowed broken glass and now she was having to deal with her throat being sore. "Buck.. he can't be dead.. He can't.." she whispered.

Buck held her tighter, his chest shuddering with his own sobs. "They're the best. You and I both know that." he told her, trying not to break more than he already was. He listened to her whimper softly as he held her. May buried her face into his chest, smelling the comforting scent of the smoke she had become so accustomed to when she was around her family.

"Buck.. Dad can't leave us." she said again, hoping and praying that by her saying it as many times as she had it would actually be true.

Buck isn't sure how long they sit there, wrapped in each other's arms, Buck stroking his little sister's hair or rubbing her back as they sit on the gurney, swaying a little every now and then. They sat there, listening to the quiet orders tossed between his team from the radio that Lucy was wearing, standing off to the side. He had ripped his off when they came down the stairs. He knew that if he had kept it on he would become a bother to the team that was working on Bobby.

Buck couldn't bring himself to move. Not when he was hearing other people coming in, not even when he heard more and more people pour into the building. The med kits, gurneys, and even other members of his team are blurry when he bothers to look up from where May is cradled against his chest.

He sees his team walking quickly with Bobby on a backboard, he nudged May gently to get her to look over to the team. "He's alive," he told his surrogate little sister. "Pops is going to be okay." He soothed her, standing and helping steady May. He kept an arm wrapped around her shoulders as they walked to the back of the ambulance. He glared at a paramedic that tried to stop them.

"That's my Dad! I'm going with him!" May exclaimed to the paramedic she didn't know, her gaze looking every bit of her mother. She frowned as she pushed past them and she reached for Bobby's hand, seeing him still fading in and out of consciousness. She squeezed his hand gently but firmly as she climbed into the ambulance with him.

Buck stood back before making a quick decision and he climbed into the driver's seat, making sure the ambulance was cranked and ready. "Everyone strapped in?" he called out before he looked back to see everyone doing their jobs and he pulled out of the parking structure, lights and sirens on as he did so. "Cedars?" he called back to Hen as he weaved in and out of traffic that was diverting to get out of his way.

Hen rolled her eyes at the man's excitement, chuckling as she wrapped a bandage around Bobby's head, stopping some of the bleeding. "Yes, Cedars Sinai." she called out. "If you don't kill us first! Your driving is about as bad as Eddie's"

"Hey!" came the simultaneous call from both Buck and Eddie.

"Rude…" Eddie muttered as he continued to check the lines and the monitors on their downed Captain.
