Donro Donro Donro.

Huey had never met anyone who thought this much like him before, so he was overjoyed to find out that Boyd also had a penchant for matchmaking.

They had stumbled upon this similarity when talking about their respective parental figures. Della had overheard them mention Donald and Gyro and had, with a licorice-bitter expression, mentioned the phase Donald had had when he'd actually had a crush on the eccentric scientist. Then, realizing she'd said something she shouldn't have, she dashed off.

Boyd and Huey had turned into schemers immediately.

"My dad and your uncle had history?"

"Do you think they still have feelings for each other?"

"We have to find out."

"If Uncle Donald and Gyro get married we'd be like stepbrothers," Huey pointed out.

Boyd laughed excitedly, "Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Let's get them on a date before we plan their wedding."

So the preliminary investigations began.

Huey was very good at playing innocent.

"Uncle Donald, mom said you and Gyro used to be friends. Is that true?"

"Yeah, you could say that," Donald said with a wistful smile. "Why?"

"Oh, it's just that I'm friends with his android son, so I thought it was cool that you two also used to be friends."

"That is kind of cool," Donald agreed.

"Did something happen that made you stop being friends?" Huey asked.

"No, life just got complicated. Maybe I'll call him up, and see if he wants to get coffee like old times."

"That sounds really nice," Huey encouraged.

"It would be nice… Don't tell your mom, though. You know how she feels about Gyro."

Huey had no plans to tell Della, but he squealed to Boyd right away.

Boyd was not as practiced at pretending not to be up to something as Huey was, but he managed to act surprised when Gyro told him that seemingly out of the blue, Donald Duck had asked him to join him for coffee.

"Are you going to go?" Boyd asked.

"I don't know if I have time," Gyro said with a shrug.

Boyd pulled a face, "Seriously? Donald went through all that time to reconnect with you and you're just going to reject him?"

"I don't know if it was that much trouble to send me a text message." Gyro seemed unaffected by Boyd's speech, so Boyd had to take drastic measures.

"What if it's a date?"

"What?" Gyro sputtered in blushy disbelief.

"Maybe he has a crush on you."

"Please, Boyd, we are professional adults and we do not have 'crushes.'"

"Don't you want to find out?"

"Well… It would piss off Della, wouldn't it?"

Boyd nodded, deciding he would take what he could and report back to Huey.

Gyro could be heard mumbling, "It's probably not a date," while he went off to text Donald back.

Huey was extremely worried about the possibility of Gyro thinking it was a date while Donald only thought it was a friendly meet-up, but, as it turns out, he did not have to worry about that. If Uncle Donald thought it was just a friendly meet-up then he'd put a suspicious amount of effort into dressing up.

"Where are you going, all dolled up like that?" Della asked as Huey eavesdropped.

"Meeting Gyro for coffee."

Della scowled and checked the time. It was 2:30 and the "date" was slated for 3.

"Be back by 5."

"Mm-kay," Donald said with a snorting laugh before brushing Della off.

Donald was not back by 5. Or 6, or 7, or 8. Huey was teetering on the edge of optimism and concern. If the date was going well, great. If Uncle Donald had been kidnapped by the Beagle Boys, not so great. He only relaxed when he got a text from Boyd saying that Gyro had just made it back to the house and Donald was with him. That was a good sign.

The next morning, Donald made his reappearance, much to the interest of his prying family. Well, to the interest of Della and Huey, at least.

"Strange how afternoon coffee turned into morning coffee," Della said snarkily as Huey sat quietly and listened.

"Oh come on, Della. I'm a full-grown adult."

Della scoffed, "You're not the one I'm worried about in this scenario."

Huey leaned forward, interested to hear how Donald would respond to that snide comment.

Donald took a deep breath.

"I know that you and Gyro have had your creative differences in the past, but Gyro has always been my friend and he's certainly gotten better with age." Donald smiled to himself.

Huey texted under the table that it seemed to have gone well.

Della was speechless for a single moment.

"You be careful, Don."

"Always. I've been unlucky before but I think I've finally gotten this right."

Della nodded, "If you're happy, I'm happy. If he hurts you, though, I hurt him."

Donald laughed and nodded.

While Huey kept up a steady stream of update texts, Boyd tentatively attempted to assess where Gyro's heart was at. It was hard to tell anything when Gyro was working. Gyro often said he left his feelings outside the lab.

Fortunately, Boyd had a couple of tricks up his sleeves and he could outsource the pestering to Fenton.

"Heard you had a date last night," Fenton said while Boyd studiously worked at his homework and pretended not to be recording this conversation for later.

"Who told you a crazy thing like that?"

Fenton shrugged, which made Boyd smile.

"I don't appreciate being gossipped about."

"Sorry, boss. How was it, though?"

"None of your business," Gyro said, his face lighting up in a blush.

Another minute of quiet working passed before the lab filled up with feelings, like a breach in the glass that held back saltwater.

"If you're really so keen on meddling in my private affairs, it was lovely."

Boyd and Fenton broke out into grins, but Boyd was smart enough to keep his mouth shut.

"That's good," Fenton said, smart in ways other than the one that kept him from further antagonizing his employer. "I like seeing you happy."

"Don't get used to it," Gyro snapped.

Fenton grinned even wider.

"You gonna bring this new guy around here?"

"He's not new," Gyro said. "I just missed my chance last time."

"But not this time?" Fenton pressed.

Gyro shot him a frustrated look, but he was still floating on a cloud.

"I don't intend to let the window of opportunity close again."

Boyd and Huey exchanged more texts and regrouped in person the first chance they got. The two Junior Woodchucks met outside where they felt the most alive, and, with Huey's house full of people and Boyd's full of listening devices, the most private.

"I'd consider our first mission a success," Boyd said.

"Can we start planning the wedding?" Huey joked.

Boyd laughed and shook his head.

"How about we just find our next mission?" Boyd suggested.

"Sounds like a plan," Huey agreed, feeling a growing excitement. Whether or not he and Boyd were destined to be stepbrothers, it was really nice to have a fellow matchmaker.

"Let's find our next targets."
