Prompt: Chilly
Fandom: Chicago Med
Pairing: Connor Rhodes x OFC
Being back in Chicago was something that Connor hated, mostly because it would usually mean that either his father or his sister had some sort of plan that included him in a way he did not want to be included. After his mother's death, he swore he would never come back, but this time was different, this time he had Melanie by his side. And as far as his father and sister were concerned, he already knew what was expecting him when he goes back inside his father's building. Which just reinforced Connor's feelings of how much he hated being back in Chicago.
If it had only been him, then he was fine with it, but his father had made the mistake of pushing to meet his girlfriend. They had only been together for a year and she was already being called to the principal's office. But it was Connor's own fault, he knew that much. He had made the mistake of posting a photo of them together for their anniversary on social media and of course his sister saw. It didn't take long for his father to reach out to him, telling him how much he wanted to meet Melanie. When Connor refused, his father went and contacted Melanie directly.
Connor shook his head as he walked around the park across the building, trying to clear his head and calm his anger, as he remembered how they got there in the first place. He still had half an hour before Melanie would get there, but he knew that as soon as she would get there, the scrutiny his father would put her through would most likely send her running for the hills. If his father kept up with his antics when Melanie arrives, just so he could be proven right that Connor didn't know how to choose his girlfriends, Connor was going to lose his temper and his mind along with it.
He heard someone call his name as well as fast footsteps approaching. Looking back, he saw Melanie walking up to him, a small smile on her lips. He wrapped her in his arms, hugging her tight and kissing her softly, before asking if she was okay, to which she answered that she was, although she was wondering why he was waiting for her outside instead of being inside spending time with his father and sister.
Connor let out a sigh before telling her what had happened up until he walked out to get some air, while resuming his walk, Melanie falling into step with him. Once he was done, he heard her clear her voice. When he looked at her, she told him that he didn't have to worry about her. That his father could say whatever he wanted to her, that she would never give him the satisfaction of being the one responsible for breaking his son's heart. She was one tough lady, he had to give her that. He told her he knew, but that she should never have to be in that position in the first place.
A cold wind started to pick up, but neither wanted to go inside just yet. They kept walking side by side, until Connor noticed that every once in a while, Melanie would shiver. Watching her closely, he noticed that she was trying to control the shivers but couldn't very well.
Even though it was a bit colder, Connor was feeling the opposite. He didn't know if it was the anger he still felt that was warming him up or if it was that he was just used to the cold from living in Chicago for so many years, but the truth was that he didn't feel the chill as much as Melanie clearly did.
Being the gentleman that he is, he pulled his jacket off and placed it around Melanie's shoulders. She argued at first, saying that she was fine and that he didn't need to. But she quickly found that no one is as stubborn as Connor Rhodes.
Telling her that it wasn't up for debate, Melanie had no other choice but to accept the jacket, a small appreciative smile on her lips. Connor smiled as he watched her progressively getting warmer. He saw her adjusting the jacket as best she could to keep the chill away from her body, her step never faltering alongside his.
Taking one last lap around the park, it soon was time to return. Making their way up the front steps of the building, a now much warmer Melanie pulled the jacket from her body and returned it to Connor so he could put it on, thanking him at the same time.
Connor took the jacket and smiled, knowing that there was nothing he wouldn't do for his girlfriend, either being his father or something as simple as December's chill.
