Chapter 1: Alvin's Fun and Dreams
It was a clear autumn night in Los Angeles, and in the suburbs of the big city, the Chipmunks: Alvin, Simon, and Theodore Seville, had just bathed and brushed their teeth and were in their pajamas ready for bed. The three brothers were finishing their prayers when their adoptive human father, Dave Seville, came upstairs to get them nice and comfortable.
"Ready to go to sleep, boys?" said Dave.
Alvin nodded and said, "You said it, Dave. I'm so tired I could sleep for a week without stopping."
"Which is what you like to say during school lessons, my jester of a brother," grinned Simon.
Alvin only rolled his eyes and said, "Ha ha, Simon. It is to laugh."
Theodore added, "You can laugh about it, Alvin. We can't."
Dave merely chuckled at the antics of his boys and went to their bedsides to get them tucked in. He pulled Alvin's bed covers up to his neck and kissed his boy on the forehead. Then Dave placed Simon's glasses on his nightstand and tucked him in as well, taking care to kiss his cheek. Little Theodore was snuggled with his stuffed bear Teddy in his arms. Dave kissed Theodore's cheek and made sure he was comfortable.
"Pleasant dreams, boys," he said with a loving smile.
"Good night, Dave," chorused the Chipmunks.
With that, the lights went out and Dave departed the room as Alvin, Simon, and Theodore slowly drifted off to sleep. Soon, the brothers could be heard breathing softly and occasionally turning in their sleep. But if one could look closely, one would see that they were smiling, a clear indication that they were indeed having good and happy dreams. For Alvin, he was having all the fun and adventure his mind could concoct for him.
Alvin looked out at the beach from his private seaside hotel, breathing in the salty sea air as if each wafting breeze was an energizing perfume. His brothers Simon and Theodore were already enjoying the hotel amusement park and water park built there, and Alvin couldn't wait to have all the fun he could hope for.
First, Alvin headed for the hotel's amusement park, which was as big as all outdoors and twice as flashy. He rode the highest and fastest roller coasters he could find, then hopped on the Ferris wheel and rode it in a loop twice, and then got his heart racing with a ride on the Deluxe Ultra-Coaster, which was so tall and fast that several times throughout the ride, Alvin nearly lost his baseball cap and his breath.
After all the spine-tingling action, Alvin went around the park with his mind on some games. He managed to win a prize at the ring toss, the batting cage, and the balloon dartboard. Next, the red-clad chipmunk hurried to the video arcade, where he met his brothers Simon and Theodore and played several arcade games and for each win, he was feeling generous enough to share his prizes with his younger brothers. After spending half the day in the amusement park, Alvin was relaxing in his hotel room and thinking about what to do next. Then he remembered the water park.
In seconds, Alvin had swapped his red sweater and shorts for his favorite red swim trunks and headed to a hatch that was designated "Super Fun Swimming Slide". He was unprepared for the sudden drop, but when he got over the shock, Alvin found himself shrieking with laughter as he raced down a transparent tubular water slide at tremendous speed. He went down a zigzagging slide, through a row of warm-water hoses, around a number of curves and loops, and then toward a whirlpool where he lost his lucky baseball cap. Before Alvin knew it, he had gone down the whirlpool and was sliding through a downward-facing tube. Suddenly, he felt the slide level off when he landed in a vast pool with an awesome splash, and his baseball cap landed on his stomach.
A short while later, Alvin was basking in the pool on a rubber raft with a comic book in hand and a drink of tropical fruit punch in a cup holder. He called for assistance and said to the lifeguard, "Can you activate the suntan lamps, please?"
"Whatever you say, kid," the young man replied.
With that, Alvin put his comic aside and sipped his fruit punch while artificial sunlight beamed down on him like a warm embrace of golden light. While he sat there in the warmth of the lamps, Alvin chanced to remove his sunglasses and saw Brittany Miller, his counterpart from the Chipettes, swimming below him, only she was a mermaid with a pink fish tail that glittered as she swam along. Alvin was so happy to see his friend that he put on a diving mask and jumped into the pool. He swam down toward Brittany and they hugged each other, and the next hours were spent swimming together underwater and on the surface.
Afterwards, Alvin was sunbathing at the outdoor pool of his private hotel when Brittany reappeared and called dreamily, "Yoohoo! Alvin!"
Then Alvin saw Brittany hop out of the pool and reveal that she had been wearing a fake fish tail over the rest of her swimsuit. The two chipmunk children hugged again, and Alvin's dream continued into a dance floor of clouds illuminated by moonlight that filled the hotel and amusement park in his mind. With this happy moment playing as though it would never end, Alvin danced with the girl of his heart's desire as the stars came out to play.
