Chapter 3: Sweet Dreams for Theodore

When Theodore fell asleep, he found himself coming around in a strange field of some kind. He got up and found that some grass stems were in his mouth, but when he felt them on his tongue, the chubby chipmunk boy got a lovely surprise. The grass tasted like lemon-lime, and it was crunchy as well. That's when Theodore realized it.

"Is this… candy?" he wondered.

He licked some more of the strange grass and found his guess was right. It was lemon-lime grass. Theodore then walked to the top of a hill and his eyes widened with excitement. He was standing in a literal land of sweets, surrounded by all the delicious desserts and treats a child could enjoy: cakes as big as one-story houses, scoops of ice cream the size of cars, lollipops three times his size, chocolate bunnies and gummy bears big enough to ride on, three-foot-long marshmallow Peeps floating on a root beer float river, and more.

Theodore could not resist the sweet allure of this candy wonderland. He jumped from the hill as hard as his little legs would force him and sailed through the air until he landed in the root beer float river with a foamy splash. Theodore nibbled his way through several Peeps until he reached the cookie dough shore, and then continued his snacktime.

Theodore ate a cupcake as big as himself and then another and still another, and then he walked into a forest of peppermint sticks and picked several of them as he went along his merry way. While he was enjoying his treat, Theodore felt something small and hard falling on his head and looked up to see chocolate drops falling from the marmalade sky like rain.

"Oh, I can't miss this!" he squeaked with delight, and he caught several of them on his tongue as if they were snowflakes. The next thing he knew, Theodore was surrounded by chocolate bunnies hopping around him, encouraging him to eat them. With that, he ate the chocolate bunnies next, but then took a misstep and a short fall before he landed in a pool of jelly beans.

Theodore was so enraptured in this dream of sweets he just kept on enjoying his abundance of desserts and sweets. He swallowed frosted cookies and drank from the root beer falls, and then chewed through a whole row of donuts and around the giant scoops of ice cream. Even the gumballs melted in his mouth like they were made of gelatin. Now Theodore was often careful not to overdo it, but he was too happy in his dream to stop himself, and he dove into a chocolate cake and enjoyed another taste of the sweets. He played golf on top of a large lemon sorbet using a gumball and a mini-lollipop, used an ice cream sandwich as a snowboard on some sugar slopes, and used a cinnamon roll as a trampoline before he ate that too.

Several minutes later, Theodore was relaxing on a chocolate chip cookie the size of a snow saucer with a contented smile on his face. He was so full of sweets that his green sweater and jeans barely fit as he had grown a lot more chubby than usual. Theodore let out a sigh and slouched in his seat, happily rubbing his belly and smiling as he thought about the splendor of his genuinely sweet dream.
