Present Day:

"Happy." Toby said exploratorily as he approached her work area about a half hour before the end of the work day.

Happy's eyes flashed up at him dangerously.

"What do you want Doc?" Happy asked.

Toby could easily see her defenses were fully encased around her now.

"You haven't wanted to talk about what happened earlier and that's okay if you don't. But, I wanted to ask. Are you okay?" Toby asked gently.

Happy gave a short humorless laugh.

"Oh, I'm just aces." Happy rolled her eyes.

"Happy, I worry about you. You need some help. You need to talk about what is going on. He's tormenting you. He's constantly dragging you right back down to where you don't want to be. Let me help you." Toby asked seriously.

"You're wrong Doc. He doesn't drag me anywhere. He simply reminds me of where I want to be. Where I can never truly be for long. And then he lets me go back to live my life, without him." Happy sighed.

"You're not living your life though Happy. If you did you could get past this. Let me help you." Toby asked again.

"Do you have any idea what he would do to you if you tried to break his hold over me? You think Roger got it bad?" Happy's thoughts drifted back to her Father. Granted she'd hadn't really wanted him back in her life but they had kind of buried the hatchet to the point they got together on occasion and worked on cars together. Then he tried to intervene one time. To save her from Walter's control. Now he was serving a life sentence for something he didn't do.

"Just stay clear Toby, it is much safer for you." Happy said as she began putting her tools away.

Happy walked over to Megan's desk about fifteen minutes before normal knock off time.

"Umm, Megan, I'm still on track with my job, unless there really is some reason I need to stay, I'd like to take off a few minutes early." Happy told her softly.

Megan smiled sadly at her. The days Walter visits them are always the hardest for Happy.

"Of course it is fine. I think I'm going to tell Walter he can't come around the Garage anymore during business hours. And I'll try and make him leave you alone otherwise." Megan promised.

Happy shrugged as she gave her a half hearted smile.

"He won't listen to you Megan. He might even make things worse for me when I'm not here. Why did I have to be so stupid as to fall for him to start with." Happy told her before she turned and left.

Toby jumped up the second the door closed behind her and ran over to Mark's desk.

"We've got to do something about him." Toby demanded.

"If you mean Walter, we're doing what we can. We have never been able to connect any of the dots between him and the things he's done. But working this Dineen angle might give us a chance." Mark said half ignoring Toby.

"I'm talking about what he is doing to Happy." Toby told him as he slammed his hands on his desk.

"What do you propose we do about it Toby? Tell me this brilliant plan of yours that will give us the upper hand to thwart him. Do you think I enjoy seeing him make a mockery of my best friend after my wife? If Happy wants us to help her stand firm against him we will, but she's got to reach the point that she's okay with losing him forever. But she also has to be prepared for what could come after." Mark told him.

"She doesn't have him, she never will. He's just stringing her along. And in the meantime her life is just wasting away." Toby said angrily.

"You're the brilliant Harvard trained psychologist Toby. What do you propose? And don't stand here acting so tough. When Walter looks at you it is all you can do to keep from pissing yourself." Sylvester told him.

"No one asked you." Toby glared at him.

"We're an equal partnership Toby, I don't have to wait to be asked my opinion." Sylvester snapped back.

"Look, you come up with a plan or even a partial one and present it to us. We'll analyze it and contribute to it. If we can come up with something we think will work against him then we'll do it. But right now, we have no other options." Mark told him.

"Yeah and on that note, I'm heading out. I got a date tonight." Cabe said as he stood and put his suit jacket on.

Happy sighed as she turned onto her street and saw Walter's car out front of her house. Her body immediately got excited even as she just wanted to cry. It had been a month since the last time he'd come by her house or taken her out. She knew it was just a visit to satisfy his desires. She pulled into her driveway and parked her truck. She knew it would be a bigger mistake to drive past and go somewhere else. She shuddered to think of what he'd make her do for that.

"My sweet little Happy." Walter grinned at her as she climbed out of her truck.

Despite how she felt and what she knew she still smiled shyly at him. She tried to tell herself she was doing it because she knew it was what he expected and not that she really was happy to see him.

"I knew you left a little too easily earlier. What do you want from me Walt?" Happy asked in resignation.

Walter smirked.

"To have some fun with my favorite girl." Walter told her even as he stepped in and hugged her tightly.

"But you got this new girl you told me about. Why do you want me?" Happy whined.

"That's exactly why I want you Happy. I need to get some things out of my system so I can be the Walter she wants me to be. And let's face it, you bring out the worst in me and help me expel it better than anyone else ever could." Walter said before his lips crushed into hers.

Happy whimpered and instantly gave into him. His tongue entered her mouth and as her tongue pressed into his her desire rose even as her arms rose up and around his neck. She felt his hands as they roamed freely about her body. The pressure went from groping to caressing. Continually cycling that pressure. She didn't know from one second to the next if she was going to feel his strength squeezing her or featherly teasing caresses. Her lust was rising higher and higher as his tongue continued playing with hers.

She shivered for a moment and then realized she felt more air against her than she should be and she broke the kiss as she looked down to see he had completely unbuttoned her work shirt. She saw her breasts were at least still in her bra.

"Walter, please, don't." Happy pleaded.

Walter grinned at first, he loved her voice, loved it even more when she used it to beg. But he'd only unbuttoned her shirt, her bra wasn't lacy, not much different than a bikini top really and she was distressed with that?

"Happy, you know, you are smoking hot. Your body is amazing, with supple flesh and firm muscles and you know exactly how to use them. But your bra is nothing revealing. No worse than a bikini top, so why the fake modesty?" Walter asked.

"Walter, this is a family neighborhood. Kids play out here a lot. I doubt my neighbors would appreciate me out here like this." Happy blushed.

"Happy, you are so beautiful." Walter grinned as he enjoyed seeing her standing there half undressed. "Why don't you let us in the house then before someone gets an eyeful of my sweet girl." Walter relented.

Happy nodded but turned and opened the screen door before slipping her key into the lock and soon they were inside. As soon as Walter heard the lock latch he spun Happy around to face him. Walter grinned at her, that grin that made her knees melt. The grin that told her how much he desired her. Walter didn't waste another second as he grabbed her up and put her on top of the dining island.

Happy's legs were wrapped around his waist as Walter gave her tiny kisses. Her hands came up and slowly unbuttoned his shirt, one button after each kiss.

"Oh how I have missed you Happy." Walter told her as his hands came up and grabbed her hair up in them. He loved the feel of her hair bunched in his fists.

"I've missed you." Happy told him near tears. "I just wished you loved me like I love you."

Walter grinned.

"I do love you, Happy, but you are the one that wanted this arrangement." Walter reminded her.

"I wanted you and me, monogamous." Happy whispered.

"No, you wanted monogamy and so you have it. You're monogamous while you wait until I'm back in the mood for you is all. And while I am here I am exclusively yours. You know what happens when I get bored right? You don't want me to get bored do you?" Walter smiled at her.

Happy shook her head. The last thing she wanted was for Walter to get bored. The last time he made her put on a mask and then took her to some seedy motorcycle bar and put on an impromptu strip dance for the guys there.

"No, I'm only yours." Happy told him. She breathed a sigh of relief seeing the loving smile stretching across his face and then his lips met her neck. He began sucking, biting and licking her flesh. Happy moaned in pleasure. If it was one thing Walter O'Brien knew, it was every single spot on Happy that brought her the most pleasure and he was hellbent to explore them over and over.

Toby sat on the couch beside the door of the Garage. They were all a little worried. It wasn't like Happy to be late or miss a day, especially without calling first. His head turned even as he jumped up when the door opened.

Happy swallowed as she stepped in and saw him standing there. She tucked her head down and breezed past him to her work area.

"Happy!" Megan called out and moved over to her on the mobility scooter. "What happened? Are you okay?"

Happy looked at her and nodded.

"I just overslept and I felt really bad. Sorry I didn't call." Happy told her quietly even as Toby stepped over.

"Why are you wearing a turtleneck sweater under your work shirt in this heat?" Toby asked as he reached out his hand to touch her shoulder.

"None of your business." Happy told him as she shied away from his touch.

"Toby, go finish your profiling." Megan told him.

Toby rolled his eyes.

"I did, none of the suspects rose to the credible threat that enabled them to do what they did to Roger except one." Toby told her.

"Good, then go tell my husband." Megan demanded.

Toby grumbled but moved over to Mark at his desk with Cabe and Sylvester.

"Happy, why are you wearing that turtleneck? It is much too hot. Did-did my brother, did Walter, do something?" Megan asked worriedly.

"Nothing too bad. Just a lot of hickeys." Happy blushed.

"May I see?" Megan asked.

"All of them?" Happy asked worriedly.

Megan had a sickening feeling and looked to the Loft.

"Let's go upstairs." Megan told her.

Happy sighed and nodded.

"I'm going to talk with Happy for a few minutes, my heart. You guys stay down here." Megan told them as she moved to the ramp.

The guys all watched as they went up to the Loft.

"We've got to find a way to protect Happy." Toby said between clenched teeth.

"Have you come up with a plan yet?" Mark asked him.

Toby shook his head.

"Well that is your job, come up with one." Mark told him.

Megan rolled on into their bedroom and waited for Happy to walk in and close the door.

"How bad?" Megan asked.

Happy swallowed but removed her shirt and then pulled the turtleneck off and Megan gasped.

The sheer number of hickeys was staggering. She had a solid band that ran completely around her neck. And then she saw the bruises around Happy's wrists and elbows.

"Oh my poor Happy. He tied you up too? Did you go to medcheck?" Megan asked as she pulled Happy into her arms and hugged her.

"Yes, to both. The doctor said I would be fine." Happy told her.

"Is this all he did, this time at least?" Megan asked as she let Happy go.

Happy nodded as she began getting dressed again.

"Well I can't let this continue on. I've got to do something. Do you want to take the rest of the day off?" Megan asked her.

Happy shook her head.

"You have to be careful Megan. Your being his sister grants you, and by extension Mark and Anthony, a sort of protection. But, anything you do that really irritates him can cause him to retaliate in other ways, hurting other people." Happy cautioned her.

"I wish Uncle Tobin was still able, I'd bring him over to kick his selfish ass. I've been too lenient with him. I've got to do something." Megan said as she began trying to consider what she could possibly do.

"It isn't your fault Megan. Walter didn't realize it one night, when he had a bad dream. If Walter had more support from your family, especially after the bombing he'd probably have been okay. But your Dad's berating him over it, every day. It messed with Walter." Happy told her.

"Dad used to berate Walter over that? I never knew that." Megan said as she sat there feeling stunned.

Happy nodded.

"He didn't like it when I had found that out, at first. But then he realized it actually made me like him that much more. But you have got to be careful. My Dad tried to put an end to his abuse of me and you know where he is now." Happy told her.

Megan frowned as she thought.

"Your Dad was convicted of murder." Megan told her.

"A murder he didn't commit." Happy told her with embarrassment. "Walter framed him by swapping out evidence."

"How do you know this?" Megan asked.

"Well, technically I don't know. What I know is, a week after Dad interfered he was arrested for the murder. Problem is, the night of the murder, Dad and I were together. Working late at his garage. He wasn't gone from my sight for more than five or ten minutes at a time. No way to go halfway across the city, murder someone and be back to keep working with me like nothing happened." Happy told her.

"Did you tell the cops?" Megan gasped.

"I tried. They just said I was making it up to protect my Dad. I told Dad I was going to the DA and he told me not too. I asked why and he just swallowed and said he did something bad and this was the punishment for it. I'm sure it was Walter and I'm sure he threatened to do worse things to me if he fought against it or warned me. And even suspecting this I still can't get over how I feel about Walter." Happy sighed.

Greetings! I hope this finds you well!

Railman - Thank you! No, we won't learn about their first meeting in any detail. At least not in the first 25 chapters. Maybe it will come up later? Happy does explain at some point about part of the start to their relationship. Yes, they met a little over a year before Mark met Happy. Dislike is a very mild term...LOL Yep, Dark Walter is profoundly confident...

Chipbass - Thank you brother! Glad you are enjoying it!

LouBe - Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it! hehe Oh man...Walter's EQ...Are you taking it too seriously? Well if you are, then hopefully that means I'm doing a good job! hehe For his EQ, I can't give anything away but I will say you hit on a number of points, to one degree or another. lol The coming chapters are going to encompass a lot of info in this regard. Chapter 8 might well answer about Paige and Ralph and their impact on him. *mwhahaha* As I told Railman a future chapter will reveal a lot more about Happy and Walter's early life together...chapter 18 to be exact. lol Happy does have a small flashback to when she helped him pick out his current car...A Jaguar...That's in chapter 7. Since they met, the only car she hasn't been involved in picking out was the Camaro SS. She'd never pick red for him. I'm glad you enjoyed the swap...Obviously with Walter the "bad" guy, there needed to be a counter part and Mark obviously was the best choice for that role. You would be correct...Walter's ability to gather information on Toby that Toby didn't think possible really drove home the point when Walter told him he'd turn him into the FBI's most wanted. I don't think Toby was ever this scared of Mark...

JerBr - He does seem to put his foot into it a lot. lol Things are about to speed up...Chapter 7 will prime the engine and you might want to grab hold of something on 8...

Pearliegirl - LOL It does take a bit to swallow Mark as a good guy doesn't it? Kind of hangs up right at the back of the tongue like...NO! I'm not swallowing this! lol Because we all have a darker side, I think it is always easier to see a good guy who is now bad. Glad you are hooked though! You might be a little bit...I'm not a professional so, seek out profession help to really be diagnosed! lol Oh yeah, we watched the Andy Griffith show all the time growing up. Not like we had much choice with 3 channels. LOL Well 4 counting PBS but kids didn't watch PBS when I was growing up. Other than Sunday morning before church. My older brother always turned on Timothy the Church Mouse. Man I hated that show. Should have been called Joseph. LOL

To the Adventure! -Tim
