Hope everyone enjoys the beginning of this new story I've been working on. I'll be revisiting at least the first season of YJ while introducing my OC (Miles). I don't own any of the characters depicted aside from Miles. All other characters and settings referenced are property of DC/HBO.

(Unknown POV)

I groaned in pain as I was trying to get a grip over where the hell I actually was. My eyes were so heavy and almost sealed shut I couldn't open my eyes. But, thankfully, my ears were still functioning.

"He should be ready soon." I heard someone whisper. As I gained consciousness, I tried to move my arms to my face to try and wipe the tiredness off. Instead, I felt a restraint on my arm after an inch of attempting to move; same with my other arm and both of my legs. I could open my eyes now but given my state I wasn't sure if that was even a good idea.

Instead, I ignored my sight and focused all my attention of my ears. I heard machine beeping in a rhythm, other people talking but only two male voices were pronounced enough that I could make out what they were saying. "How soon?" I heard another man say in an authoritative manner.

I heard beeps and clicks, sounded like someone was typing maybe? "About a week, sir." The other man replied, feebly. I heard a groan, clearly this was not what the man wanted to hear.

"That's too long a window. We need to move this up. The longer we wait, the more likely our enemies will be able to stop us from achieving our goal." He argued. "And if we don't succeed, you know how well I tolerate failure."

The feeble man was audibly trembling as he typed like his hands were about to fall off. "Yes sir. We'll move up the timeline somehow, sir." He said.

Footsteps retreated and I was left alone with the one man. "The experiment seems to have been a success, we've now been able to unlock the dormant meta-gene inside of unsuspecting humans." He said gleefully. The man continued to run through diagnostics with his cronies nearby.

"Let's review our subjects." The man began. Sounded like there were more people like me in this room, where here was. I had to calm down and stay still so they'd still think I was unconscious. I'm grateful no one has caught on so far, don't wanna press my luck.

"Activation of the meta-gene in a first gen experiment. Our only successful test subject from the first-generation meta-gene batch. 6 feet 1-inch, Caucasian male Subject, while unconscious seems to have developed several abilities. To begin, he has developed enhanced kinesthesia, heightened senses and reflexes, and potential ability to regenerate at a cellular level. But, more testing is required to see to what extent these abilities are accessible and applicable in the subject's conscious state." The man rambled.

The man kept walking with his group of assistants into another room, which finally allowed me to not only relax but process what he said. My breath was slow to come as I fought with my instincts to allow me to think and breathe normally. I was just short of having a panic attack. I've been turned into some type of experiment for some mad scientist. Not only that, but of the people who got sucked into this as well, I WAS THE ONLY ONE TO SURVIVE!?

What the hell is a "meta-gene"? Then it hit me, I remember hearing that before. Vandal Savage! I knew I needed to escape from here and warn the Justice League, but the question was…how? Before I could have another thought, I felt a piercing white light in my eyes. It was as if someone had blinded me and was now reaching into my brain and hitting it with a hammer. That was the last thing I remember before blacking out.

(SCENE JUMP: Gotham City, UNKNOWN POV)

I woke up with a headache so bad, it would put an alcoholic to shame. I groaned and opened my eyes, the place looked eerily familiar, but I couldn't figure out why. I looked at the cityscape, Gotham City. I'd somehow gotten to Gotham City. I tried to think of the last thing I could remember…but nothing came. I couldn't remember ANYTHING! I couldn't remember my own name, I couldn't remember my home, family. I knew I was here for something, but not sure what.

The sun shone brightly on Gotham as adults and children, friends and families all gathered to celebrate Independence Day. This beautiful day soon turned ugly as the sounds of grilling and laughter were replaced with screams or terror and fear. As people ran, they were blasted and then encased in ice.

"Enjoying family time?" asked an ominous voice. Mr. Freeze entered, holding his latest freeze gun and wreaking havoc on what should've been a peaceful day of celebration. "My family has other plans." He continued. Freeze kept moving and blasting his freeze gun at innocent civilians as they all attempted to save themselves and their loved ones.

Hiding behind a nearby tree, stood a 6 ft 1-inch male trying to observe. "That's Mr. Freeze!" I screamed in my head. "I must be in Gotham." I thought. Batman would be here soon to help, but I'm not sure if these people can wait that long. My mind must have been ahead of me, as when I looked down I didn't see my typical physique. Instead, I noticed my hands had gotten smaller, as did the rest of my body. "What the hell?" I whispered to myself. But, it wasn't my voice. It was smaller, like that of a young man in the midst of puberty. Then, my eyes widened in realization. I pulled at my clothing, or rather Robin's clothing.

I had turned into Robin, at least in appearance. Freeze kept going shooting innocent people, I didn't have time to figure out the details. Instead, I took initiative and ran towards people. I knew I couldn't fight like Robin, but I was hoping people would recognize him…or rather me and let me help them get to safety.

I ran behind Freeze and was able to do just that. Thankfully, being nimble has its advantages when you're trying to not be noticed. I noticed what looked to be a mother and her child cowering under a picnic table. I ran to them as fast as possible. I crouched down and looked at them through the space between the seat and the table itself. "Don't worry." I whispered. "We're gonna get you guys outta here." I reassured them.

Even though I didn't believe it myself yet, they seemed to and that was good enough for me. I saw where Freeze was and was trying to think of a plan. While I might look like Robin, I couldn't fight like him and I had no weapons in this little monkey suit. Instead, I used what I did have at my disposal. The table still had food, so I chose to use distractions rather than head on approaches. I grabbed the food from the top of the table and threw it at the nearby tree into its leaves.

At first, the woman and her child must have thought I was crazy, but then they saw the number of birds and squirrels that fell out as a result. RIGHT. ON. TOP. OF. FREEZE. Freeze scrambled with the cacophony of wildlife that proceeded to shoot his gun wildly, attempting to shoo them away and regain his field of vision. The little girl laughed, but I shushed her and told her this was their best time to escape.

They took my advice and ran over a hill nearby. The woman looked back and mouthed a small "thank you". I noticed the rest of the area was clear, but now I was an open target. I jumped out of sight to make sure that Freeze couldn't find me. I realized even if I wasn't the real Robin, that wasn't gonna stop him. Freeze could now see again, but at the cost of running out of ammo.

As he was set to reload, Freeze was interrupted by several projectiles thrown his way. "Ahh Batman. I was wondering when…." Freeze groaned. As he looked around for his opponent, he was nowhere to be seen. Instead, he heard laughter. A boy's laughter. "Robin" he thought. I looked around and recognized that voice. My voice…or rather, Robin's voice. In an instant, two additional projectiles flew in his direction, this time making contact with the glass dome that worked to seal Freeze in his self-sustained cold suit.

The projectiles exploded, damaging Freeze's glass dome, but not enough to fully destroy it. "Oh, Boy Wonder," Freeze began. "The Bat sent you to drag me off to prison? Frankly I'm underwhelmed."

"Great, but I'm kinda in a hurry here." Robin asked curtly.

"Kids… always in such a rush." Freeze complained as he reached for his weapon.

Robin groaned and rolled his eyes from behind his mask. "Not talking to you." He said dripping with attitude that only a teenager can provide. Behind Freeze came a hooded figure, the Batman. Midair, he extended his leg and dealt the finishing blow to Freeze as he successfully broke open his dome on his suit and rendering him near catatonic to the natural temperature.

I was in awe of the fact that I was within spitting distance of the Batman and Robin. This felt familiar, but I wasn't sure how or why. Almost like a…nagging feeling scratching the inside of my brain. But, I couldn't figure it out. I couldn't place the feeling that I knew what was coming next. Then, as Batman hauled Freeze into a truck to Belle Reve prison, a prison designed specifically to house villains with superpowers. I heard Robin say something, "Today's the day". What did that mean? What day?

And how is it that I have no memory of myself, but I know who all these people are? And even…what might happen? I was too worried about staying quiet and out of sight to worry about that.

Then, it hit me like a Mack truck! Today is THE day. I needed to get to Washington DC and FAST! But in Gotham City, there's no way for me to get there and I can't fly or catch a plane in enough time. I walked around aimlessly and was racking my brain. But then I realized, there's a shot in the dark that just might work. I walked around Gotham and was looking for something that was meant to hide in plain sight. Ugh, so many options. I was in Gotham City, through no memory of my own of how I got there, no memory of who I am, and yet somehow, I can change to look like other people?!

I realized I might be up creek without a paddle as I hit my fist into the closest wall behind me. In this case, I hit a phone booth. I looked up, "OUT OF ORDER" was on the white tape in red letters. I gasped; this might be exactly what I need. I opened the booth and heard the chime of "Not Recognized" and was so mad. Of course, it doesn't work, I'm not on the Justice League or a protégé of a Leaguer.

All I could picture is Batman, tall man, muscled, with the cape and cowl. As I was picturing it, I felt a strange sensation in my body and when I looked down, I was no longer myself. I had taken the form of Batman, from the cowl down to the combat boots. "What the hell?" I asked myself. But it wasn't my voice, it was Batman's. Rather than question it, I simply kept moving.

I re-entered the broken phone booth again and rather than a rejection, I heard the synthetic voice "Recognized; Batman; 02". Before I could sign in relief, I disappeared. Thankfully, the zeta tube didn't seem to notice or even care that Batman had just entered this tube.

(WASHINGTON D.C., Unknown POV)

I materialized in an almost identical phone booth. Also out of order, of course. I moved out quickly and quietly as possible, realizing I don't need anyone claiming to have spotted "Batman". I also realized I needed to not be Batman now and I had no idea how to fix that.

"Calm down." I told myself…well Bat-self. I tried to focus and breathe. "When I changed into Batman, I did it by picturing him in my mind's eye. Maybe if I think hard enough, I can do it again." I knelt and assumed a meditation stance. "Picture your height, the sound of your voice, the color of your eyes…" I guided myself.

It was there again, that similar feeling in my body. I mentally crossed my fingers for luck. I saw a piece of broken mirror. I looked down and saw my own face again, whomever that was. I walked out of the side street the booth was near. It was about a half mile away from civilization, so I knew I needed to hustle. I had never been to DC, that I could remember anyway, so I had no clue where to go. Thankfully, as I looked around, I realized I didn't need to. Instead, I followed the waves of people heading in the direction of the National Mall.

I got there just in time, seeing velvet ropes blocking off the public as superheroes and their trainees followed them into the Hall of Justice. I caught a free spot near the end of the ropes by the bottom of the staircase to the Hall. I was able to catch the tail end of a conversation between Robin and Kid Flash. "First time at the Hall, I'm a little overwhelmed." Kid Flash commented.

Robin turned away from the paparazzi to reply, "You're overwhelmed. Freeze was underwhelmed. Why isn't anyone ever just whelmed?" Robin complained. I laughed, as weird as it was that was a good point. The party walked up the steps and into the main foyer of the Hall. I followed them and noticed everyone staring up in awe, myself included.

"Maybe that's why." I caught myself saying. A door opened and Martian Manhunter greeted the group. They walked through the door marked "Authorized Personnel Only". That was my stop, but I needed to try and talk to them. At this point, I'm just short of a breakdown and I need someone to help me before I lose my mind.

I followed the tour group in the Hall. It was some kind of library with bookcases galore and some seats. The proteges seemed to be kicking back, save for Speedy, while the senior league members were being scanned by…something. We could see into the room, but we couldn't hear anything. Maybe it was just me but having a base of operations that also has a tour for travelers doesn't seem the most secure. Speedy waved up to the observation deck, he seemed about as amused as I did.

Before anyone could tell what was going on, Speedy took his hat from off his head and threw it on the ground in rage. Speedy walked out, but before anyone could stop him an alarm went off inside the Hall and Superman appeared on the screen.

I read his lips, something about Project Cadmus being on fire. Shortly after that, another video appeared, this time it was Zatara. His video was too small to read his lips. The main league members disappeared behind a door marked for "League Members Only". The sidekicks grumbled to each other, seeming to be upset about being kept out of whatever Batman and the others were heading towards. Robin moved toward the computer and began pulling up information.

They seemed to be interested in Cadmus, whatever that is. Before I could move, I noticed that Aqualad squinting and peered in my direction. Looking around, I realized I was the only person who was left. Not sure if it was a coincidence or if someone didn't see me. All I know if I was seen now. Before I could do anything, I was ensnared by a tentacle of pure water. Within the same breath, I was ripped from the observation deck and down to the level of the sidekicks.

"Wow, now this is one hell of a tour." I joked. I was knocked out, at least I assume I was knocked out, before I could come up with another reply.

(3rd Person POV, Hall of Justice)

The Hall of Justice was now closed off to the public given there was an active threat to Earth that they were handling. "What the hell, Kaldur?" Kid Flash exclaimed. "Any reason you're beating on a civilian."

Kaldur ignored Wally's screams and focused more on analyzing the person in front of him. Assuming it was actually a person at all. He seemed to be as far as he could tell, but looks can be deceiving. He would know better than most.

"I'm not entirely sure what he is, but I'm certain he's definitely not human. Not just human, at least. He can pass for one, but there's some type of energy around and within him." The two super friends looked at each other, expecting additional information from their comrade and friend. Instead, silence.

"And?" Robin annunciated.

Aqualad looked back at the Boy Wonder with a stern look. "And nothing, Robin. I am unable to determine anything further." He replied, feeling a bit disappointed in himself.

Robin took additional initiative, proceeding to pick up the man and strap him to a chair with Batman approved rope. The others looked him once over, curious what he planned to do next. "What?" the shortest boy asked with genuine concern. "It's not like keeping him knocked out is going to bear much fruit." While they did not like this tactic, neither of them had any better ideas.

Pulling a small packet out of his belt, Robin snapped it open and hovered it just below the mystery boy's nose. He inhaled shallow at first, then aggressively more as he regained consciousness. "Jesus dude, is there anything you don't have in there?" the boy said, attempting to snuff the potent odor from his nose.

Rather than reply, Robin simply rolled his eyes from behind his mask. "Who the hell are you?" Robin questioned. The boy simply stood there in stunned silence.

Kaldur'ahm studied the boy's expressions. There was no lie or deceit on his face, only his own confusion. "I'd like to find that out myself." He said.

"What is your name?" Aqualad prodded further. Again, only silence.

The Atlantean began to understand. "You possess no knowledge of your identity or life, do you?" The boy looked up at him in genuine sadness.

"No." he said meekly.

Still hesitant, Wally needed more than that. Amnesia is just too easy. "That still doesn't explain why you were spying on us." The redheaded speedster interjected.

Curious, Robin stood in front of the computer again. Typing away, everyone stared up waiting for something to happen. "Whoa." Wally said. "How are you-?"

"Same system as the Batcave." Robin finished for him. With the final click of a button, they were greeted with 'Access Granted' via a female computer voice. Typing away, Robin knew what he was looking for, he just needed physical proof. "BINGO" Robin said.

The other superheroes looked at the screen. Robin queued up a video, only to provide more confusion than clarity. "Uhh…I think your cape is getting a little too tight around your neck there, pal." Wally said, half joking but laced with concern.

"Just watch the screen." The Boy Wonder finished. They all did as he requested, including their pseudo-captive. It was as Wally implied, after the crowd was gone there was no one else on the observation deck. That is…until Aqualad sensed the boy and retrieved him. It wasn't as if he had just materialized, he was there all along. Except, no one could see him. But, Kaldur was able to catch gaze fixed upon him.

"You're a meta?!" Kid Flash and Aqualad exclaimed. Robin grinned in satisfaction, nice to know he hadn't lost his touch. Batman would never let him hear the end of it.

"Even if he is, it doesn't seem like he knows." Robin continued. With the proof he needed, the raven haired boy cut their prisoner loose. "At this point, I think we're more of a threat to you than you to us. Given you don't even seem to be able to control those powers of yours." He concluded.

"Up until waking up this morning, I didn't even know I had powers." The boy admitted. "My entire life and memory are a blank. I've been able to use my powers once or twice, but this last time was a fluke." Robin could see he was telling the truth.

"We'll help you figure this out, dude. We promise." Wally said. "If you wanted to hurt us, you had plenty of options."

The boy extended out a hand as a peace offering, Wally considered momentarily and then extended in kind. He then proceeded to extend a hand to Robin and then to Aqualad. "The League will need to hear about this later." Aqualad started.

The screen of the League's computer was usurped by a broadcast of the local news and the fire at Project Cadmus. "As that may become our priority, afterall." He pointed to the screen. The fire was small, but it wasn't going to stay that way. "We have determined this boy is no longer a threat. But, we'll get out wish to do more."

The three boys geared up and the non-hero stood there. They all looked at each other, unsure of what would come next. "You should come with us." Robin said definitively. "At the very least, maybe his powers will come in handy. Alright, let's hit it…uh…we need to give you a name. Maybe a code name too." Aqualad and Kid Flash agreed.

"How do you feel about the name…" Wally started. He groaned at himself, should've thought of a name before blurting it out. His feet and mouth have always worked faster than his brain.

"Miles" Robin said. The boy agreed, Miles it is. "As for a codename…" Robin continued.

"Call me…" Miles interrupted. Rather than continuing, he sat down and meditated. Within moments, his height left him, his hair blackened. "Carbon Copy" only it was Robin's voice now.

They all stared at him in awe. They had so many questions, but now was not the time to figure em all out. All three of them made their way towards Kadmus.

(PROJECT KADMUS OFFICE, DC 3rd Person POV)
