"Ike and Samus are getting married?"

"Yes." Bayonetta said, as she checked her list of groceries. "And you better prepare yourself. I will not have you dressed like a delinquent for such an important event."

Viola scowled. At thirteen years old she had already grown to be her mother's complete opposite. Her platinum hair had been cut short, and almost all of her clothes were branded with the iconic symbol from her favorite anime. She just wished she could get her hands on that leather jacket she had her eye on.

"Where are they getting married?"

"Tellius, the continent that Ike hails from." Bayonetta said. "The exact location hasn't been decided." She glanced up at her through her glasses. She tended to do this when looking down on her. "I hope you don't cause problems for anyone while we're there."

"I'll be good, mummy." Viola said, exasperated. "Can I go now?"

Although Viola had been born in New York she always had seen herself, rather like her Mother, to be a free spirited globe trotter, with no true nationality to speak of. She was quite fond of England and her ancestral home city of Vigrid, but recently they had found themselves in Shibuya. The flashing lights, the bright colors, and the fact that it was Japan excited and thrilled her… although to her Mother it was just another location to fight angels.

"Please be back before dark." Bayonetta told her, "Take Chesire with you."

"I know, Mum." Viola said, exasperated, as she grabbed hold of her katana, Mab-Dachi, and strapped it to her waist. She struggled with the straps for a bit, before Bayonetta leaned in and adjusted them for her.

Viola was glad to be out of their apartment. She liked her Mom just fine, but the call of adventure was a tempting mistress. It was time to explore Tokyo!

Viola was a huge enthusiast of Japanese culture, even though she had never been to Japan. Although she stuck out like a sore thumb, with her punk clothes and platinum blonde hair, she did her best to ignore the stares of those around her on the subway. She spoke fluent enough Japanese that she had little issue conveying that yes, she was a foreigner, but she meant no harm. Really. Even with this haircut.

The subway was more cramped than she had expected. She stood there awkwardly, trying her hardest not to stare at the people around her.

She was thankful when she finally got off the station at Shibuya. She yawned, stretched, and stepped out into the street.

Behind her, the subway car exploded. Viola whirled around, drawing her katana as the people around her fled in terror.

The demon, a spider covered entirely in flames, crawled out of the wreckage and stared at her. Viola's first instinct was that it had to be her Phantasmaraneae summoned by her Mother, and wondered faintly why she would destroy a car full of innocent people. That feeling dissipated immediately, however, as the demon crawled over to her.

"A little magic, a little woman!" It crowed. "Yet you're still mightier than all those around you!"

This was not a demon summoned by Umbran magic: It seemed to be acting of its own free will.

"What are you doing, big guy?" She asked, trying to sound more confident than she really felt. "Attacking a city full of people is only asking for trouble."

The spider laughed.

"Trouble?" It repeated, laughing. It raised its claw and swatted down at her. She raised her katana to try and block it, but it went spinning out of her hand, up into the sky above them.

The Katana glinted, and out of nowhere Cheshire leapt, falling on top of the spider, crushing it instantly. The spider cried out in pain as Cheshire leapt up and down, body slamming it over and over again.

"Yeah, trouble." Viola said casually, as she raised her fist. "ME."

Cheshire leapt upward for another slam, but the spider turned around, snapping at him with his pincers. He neatly dodged, and in one fluid movement impaled the creature with its claw.

"Too easy." Viola said, as she raised her hand. The katana went soaring back into her hand as the creature at her feet collapsed, bursting into flames.

"Freeze!"

She jumped, sword still in hand, as she turned to see a number of officers rushing towards her.

"Uh, everything's fine!" She said quickly, as she held up her hands. "I-"

She was tackled. She let out a cry as she slammed her head against the concrete, and passed out.

"A witness tells me you said your name is Trouble."

"It's Viola." Viola said, a little stubbornly. "It was a JOKE."

The prosecutor slammed the table. "A joke resulting in the death of dozens of people?"

Viola wondered how her own Mother so easily evaded law enforcement. It was true that she did most of her work in Purgatario, but for the most part she existed in the world of Chaos, the human world. It was difficult to meet men that way, she claimed….

"Are you going to answer?" The woman demanded.

"Look." Viola said. "I'm just a stupid kid. If you want answers, contact my parents."

"You are not." The woman said. "There have been many sightings of a white haired man with a katana leading demon attacks on this city. You fit the description perfectly."

"Except I'm not a man, genius." Viola said irritably. "What's your name again, babe?"

"Nijima. And don't change the subject…"

"Well, Prosecutor Nijima." Viola said, as she adjusted in her seat. "Only an Umbran Witch could call forth a demon like that, and as you can plainly see I'm not one."

(Yet)

"You can throw me in a lake if you want to check. I swear I'll float."

Njima stared at her, eyes narrowed.

"Have you any connection to the Phantom Thieves?"

"The what?" Her first thought was to that alternate version of her own Mother, Phantom Thief Bayonetta who operated out of Paris.

"The criminals that steal the hearts of others."

"I have no idea what you're talking about." Viola said, annoyed. She was starting to sound rather like a Keyblade Master.

"Don't like to me."

The second thing that came to mind was another member of the Super Smash Bros, that often fought alongside her mother.

"Oh yeah, I've heard the name before." She said casually. "But I-"

"Tell me more about them."

"Uh…"

Viola scratched her face.

"They are led by a man named Joker. He's accompanied by a talking cat… he's sleeping with a woman named Queen, who's the head of the operation… and… uh… they have a number of other friends that I've never even heard of."

Nijima stared at her.

"Where did you get that information?"

"Dunno."

Nijima pounded on the desk. "Don't get smart with me."

"I-"

Even Viola didn't know what would have come out of her mouth next. Because before she could even speak a hand fell on her shoulder.

Viola fell silent as her Mother appeared out of nowhere, rather like a ghost. She had probably been watching for a while in Purgatario before deciding to enter the Human world… the realm of chaos.

Nijima jumped, clearly taken aback, as Bayonetta smiled.

"My apologies, Prosecutor." She said. "But I'm afraid you are barking up the wrong tree."

She waved her hand, and the two of them entered Purgatario, disappearing from sight. Sae jumped to her feet, darting her head around wildly as the two of them casually made their way to the door.

"I do hope that you've done nothing naughty, Viola."

"Nope." Viola said. "Just a misunderstanding, is all. A demon attacked me when I stepped off the subway."

"Did you recognize it?"

"It looked like a giant spider. Similar to-"

"Cheshire fought it off for you, did he?"

Viola scowled. "We worked together, yeah."

"You can't rely on your demons to do all of the fighting for you." Bayonetta warned her. "A real Umbran Witch…" As she spoke, she handed Mab-Dachi back to Viola.

"Fights her own battles, yeah yeah yeah." Viola said irritably. They had left the station and had found themselves back on the street.

"I'm sorry, Viola." Bayonetta said, as she checked her bag. "But I really think I should investigate this matter. Can you find your way back to the apartment? I shan't be long."

"Sure." Viola said. "But I if I get jumped again, I-"

She found herself back in the Realm of Chaos before she could even finish her sentence. Scowling, she stalked off, muttering to herself. Several passerby were staring, likely due to the fact that she was clearly not Japanese, and soon enough it became so common that Viola felt a sense that if she kept this up that she would get the cops called on her again. She had no choice. She had to head to a more populated area, one where she would be able to blend in more.

She ended up among the crowds in Shibuya. Although she still stuck out like a sore thumb, at least she was able to pass herself as an ordinary, ignorant American tourist. Although she had been told to go straight back to the apartment, Viola was a rebel by nature, and decided to have a quick meal instead.

"Uh, could I have-"

Before she could finish her sentence, however, a loud, boisterous voice hit her ears.

"I mean, we're the Phantom Thieves. We gotta do something, right?"

She turned, rather taken aback, to see a group of people, perhaps a couple of years older than herself, sitting off by themselves. Feeling self conscious, she turned back around and finished her order.

"Shut up, someone will hear." The blonde girl was saying.

"It's not normal for demons to be running around the city." The blonde boy was saying. "Something's wrong."

"For sure." Viola said, as she stirred her ice cream with a straw. The group looked up at her, surprised, as she sat down across from them as if she knew them.

"Sup." Viola said.

They stared at her.

It was the blonde girl who spoke first.

"Um, who exactly are-"

"The name's Viola." Viola said. "And you…"

She pointed at the boy in the middle, with the glasses.

"You're Joker, aren't you?"

The boy's expression was unreadable as the group turned to look at him, surprised.

"How do you know me?" Joker asked quietly.

"My name is Viola." She said. "My Mom's Bayonetta. You know her very well… don't you?"

A flicker of recognition flashed across his face.

"I have heard of you." He acknowledged. "Cereza speaks of you often."

Viola preened. She had wondered whether this was the same person, but it rather seemed as if she were in luck.

"Please don't tell me your Mother is responsible for the demon attacks around the city."

"Nah." Viola said. "She's investigating. We didn't even know you lived here, I rather thought…"

"Joker, who is this girl?" The blonde said again, eyeing Viola with great curiosity.

"She's the daughter of one of the Smash Brothers." Joker said. "Number 63, Bayonetta."

That got the group's attention.

"The Smash Brothers?" The orange haired girl asked sharply. "For real?"

"They're here?" The blonde boy asked, gagging. "For real?"

"Well, Mum's here, and you're here… So I guess?"

"Anyone else?" Joker asked. He had pulled out a diary and was already scribbling in it. Viola was sure that he was documenting his immediate impressions of her.

"Not that I'm aware of." Viola said. Joker finished his scribbling and looked up at her, his glasses were glinting.

"I'd like to speak with your Mother as soon as possible." He said. "Where are you staying?"

"A hotel not far from here." She answered. "I'm… uh, supposed to be waiting there for her now, actually. She might come back shortly."

Joker stood up.

"I'll go now."

Viola stood up as well.

'Excellent." She said. "Uh, but can I eat first? I'm starving."
