It was another day. The Dark Matter was the first one to wake up, though his brother was still asleep. It was understandable, since he'd just gotten home...That and the wound the Dark Matter had given him probably hurt more than Brother wanted to admit.
Something caught the Dark Matter's eye, there was a fireball that flew high above them. It might've been Lord Miracle, given how big the fireball looked.
It didn't take long for Brother to wake up, though he winced as soon as he tried to stretch himself. Regardless, he continued to act as if he was perfectly fine.
"...Good morning," Brother said groggily. The Dark Matter responded by nuzzling against his brother's eye, it was his way of saying "good morning" back to him.
"...So what shall we learn, today?" Brother asked. "Should we learn how to shoot lasers from our eyes? Or maybe we should learn how to use our fins to defend ourselves?"
The Dark Matter gave his brother a worried look, what if he gets hurt, again?
"I'll be fine," Brother reassured him. "Though I think for today it might be best to practice without swords...Don't you think?"
The Dark Matter nodded. With that said, his brother let out his fins and began to fly. The Dark Matter hopped along the ground and followed him. If he was going to master any part of his training, then hopefully this should be a little easier.
The Dark Matter was lead into an open field. Unlike the lake, there were rocks here that were piled up like actual dummies. There were even a few siblings here that trained as well.
The Dark Matter looked at his brother and sprouted a pair of arms, he was trying to mimic the ears that an N-Z would have.
"Hm? Why aren't there any N-Zs, you ask?" Brother responded. "Well...We COULD use N-Zs to practice with, but I don't think we should use them for anything other than possession...That and they probably won't be happy to see you."
"Ah, so he STILL can't possess anything!" a sibling said in an almost-mocking tone. Brother rolled his eye in annoyance. "Would you please back off?"
"Sorry, it's not my fault the little defect can't do something as simple as possession." the sibling replied. "but hey, I guess misfits have to stick together, right?"
"...Just ignore them," Brother told the Dark Matter. The duo quietly made their way to a pile of rocks separate from the rest of their siblings. These ones looked sturdy, so they should be able to stand a few hits.
"All right, Brother!" The Dark Matter's brother said as he focused on the rocks. "First, I'm going to show you how to use your fins to defend yourself."
The Dark Matter nodded as he released his fins and began to hover. His brother's fins began to rotate faster.
"Sometimes you'll encounter an enemy that is more difficult to hit with a sword alone. In cases like this, you can use your fins to both attack and defend yourself...Now watch closely!"
Quickly, Brother was able to detach his fins and throw them at the rocks. His fins regrew right before he landed on the ground.
"Now I'd like to see you try!" Brother said excitedly. The Dark Matter quickly rotated his own fins. He attempted to throw them at the rocks, but they simply fell off of his own body and he landed flat onto the ground.
"...No worries, you can just try again." Brother said patiently. The Dark Matter nodded as he attempted to attack the rocks again. He tried again and again, but he failed each time. Nonetheless, his brother continued to sit patiently.
"We could try something else if we need to," Brother suggested. The Dark Matter shook his head as he tried to attack the rocks one more time. But just like every other time, the Dark Matter couldn't do it.
He wished he could've found a way to impress his brother. He wanted to show that he was able to do something that his brother could do, but despite the failure, his brother didn't look disappointed.
"It's all right, sometimes you need a little more practice." Brother assured him. "You won't always get everything on your first try, so try not to worry about it...OK?"
The Dark Matter nodded, though he still felt somewhat bitter about how his training went.
"Here, how about I teach you something else?" Brother offered, the Dark Matter replied with a nod.
"Very well, then." Brother said as he opened his eye widely. "This move's a little trickier, but if you concentrate, then you'll be able to shoot a dark laser from your eyes...like this!"
Suddenly, an electric laser shot out of brother's eye. Unfortunately, he barely missed the rocks and hit one of his siblings instead. Although shocked at first, the sibling looked back at the duo with rage.
"Huh, it's no wonder the little one can't learn anything!" the sibling said bitterly. "It's because he has YOU as his teacher!"
"Didn't I tell you to back off!?" Brother argued. "Besides...that laser was my fault, not his!"
"Well in that case, I'll just have to show him how a laser is SUPPOSED to work!" The sibling replied. They looked down at the Dark Matter and shot a laser from their eye. The young blob could feel the electricity course through his body, he would've screamed if he had a mouth.
"I told you to BACK OFF!" Brother hissed as he switched into Blade form, he took out his sword and pointed it towards the sibling. They did the same thing as brother, but instead of a sword they pulled out a boomerang instead.
"And here I thought you'd learn to control these outbursts," the sibling said coldly. "But I guess it gives me a good excuse bash your head in."
"...You go back to the nest!" the Dark Matter's brother said sternly. "I'll take care of this!"
The Dark Matter shook his head. He attempted to tackle the sibling, but they struck the him as they threw the boomerang, the edges left a shallow wound across the Dark Matter's side.
"I said GO!" Brother yelled. "Don't make me repeat myself!"
Although worried, the Dark Matter nodded as he fled. Brother prevented the sibling from going after him, but now he was going to be hurt, and the Dark Matter didn't want that.
He wished that he could've helped his brother, but he didn't have any useful skills or abilities. He couldn't even talk, let alone fight back. It was a miracle the Dark Matter could even fly by himself.
The Dark Matter felt so useless, he just hoped that his brother was going to be OK after all of this.
Thankfully, the Dark Matter was able to make it back to his nest safely. He was safer here than he was out there. He spent the rest of the day sitting in his nest, but it didn't stop him from worrying about his brother.
Sure enough, once his brother came back he had a few more bruises and cuts than he did when he first left the nest this morning. The Dark Matter quickly hopped over to him, he sprouted a pair of arms as if he asked to be hugged.
"...It's all right," Brother says as he wrapped his cloak around the younger Dark Matter. "I've put up with worse fights, I should be able to heal quickly."
Maybe so, but the Dark Matter was still worried about him. If he'd been a little stronger, then none of this would've happened.
"...You know what? Maybe we should hold off on training until tomorrow," Brother suggested. "Lord Zero might get angry, but I'm sure he'll understand."
The Dark Matter sincerely hoped so. If he could find a way to get stronger somehow, then maybe he won't see his brother get hurt like that again.
