A/N: This was just a little late for Christmas Day, but I hope everyone reading this had a fantastic holiday season- will continue on to have an incredible New Year, and get everything you need and want from 2023. 3
Christmas Day is one of Enzo's favorite days of the year. New York is never really quiet, but there's something about this day that brings peace over the various suburbs, and very little traffic noise finds it way into his apartment while he hums around the kitchen, making this meal or that for Christmas. He's not a great cook, but sometimes the Italian in him comes out and he has to give it a go.
He's lost in piling up lasagna noodles in a baking dish when large, wide arms wrap around him, pulling him in snug. He smirks and continues to put the noodles down before leaning back. "G'morning, Cass," he says quietly.
"G'morning," Cas replies. "That looks really good."
Enzo laughs. "It's barely put together," he mumbles, still trying to focus on spreading out the layers of noodles, sauce, cheese, beef crumble, the entire thing- while Cass' lips continue to press tickling little kisses against his jaw. "Wait til it's done cookin' to let me know how it looks'n'smells and everything in between."
Cass smirks and shrugs. "Ain't patient enough. Besides, I can tell already."
"Time traveler," Enzo teases, finally piling on the last of the cheese. Cass thankfully steps back so Enzo has room to put the dish safely in the oven, closing it securely before turninig and wrapping his arms around Cass' waist. "So," he says.
"So," Cass echoes, resting his hands on Enzo's shoulders. "Whatcha wanna do while that bakes?"
"Could think of a few things," Enzo teases, squeezing Cass a little tighter.
"I'm sure you could," Cass laughs while rolling his eyes. "Anything family friendly?"
Enzo groans, rolls his head on his neck, then straightens up. "Guess we could open our stockings," he suggests with a smirk.
"Yeah, alright," Cass says with a huff, following Enzo over to the couch.
"You know you love it," he rebukes Cass, leaning in to kiss him before he makes his way over to the fireplace and frees both stockings, handing Cass' over and waiting.
Cass quirks an eyebrow at him before digging around for the usual candies, anxiety aids, and whatever else Enzo decides to stuff in there. It's not until he gets to the very bottom that his eyes widen a little and he tugs out an ornament, staring at it for a long, pensive moment. "Enzo," he exhales.
When he looks up, Enzo is watching him with an uncertain gleam in his eye. "Yeah, Cass?"
Cass exhales, shuddering, and reads the ornament again. "What's this mean?"
Enzo leans over to look at it too, then smiles. "Well, I thought it'd be kinda self-explanatory," he murmurs. "Isn't it?"
"I guess so, yeah," Cass breathes out, holding the ornament up on its delicate string so the door with the sign "First Christmas in our new house" reflects the light.
"It's that house we were lookin' at awhile ago that you loved so much," Enzo explains. "It's still on the market, and, well, our lease is comin' up, so I figured if there's any time to make a move, it's now. I got the deed'n'everything over there, just gotta make it official after the holidays when everyone's back in the office."
Cass just sits there and lets the ornament dangle from his limp fingers for so long that Enzo gets nervous. Finally he looks up and smiles so wide, his face lit up with adoration and happiness. "I love you, Enzo Amore," he says.
Enzo exhales sharply. "Damn, man, make a guy panic, why don'tcha." He scoots closer and leans his forehead against Cass', staring at the ornament. "Ya like it?"
"I love it," he mumbles. "I can't wait to move in there with ya."
Enzo grins and reaches out to poke the ornament and make it spin a bit faster. "Same, big guy. Same."
