Keiichi slowly woke up and took in his surroundings. He was in the middle of a grassy field and everything seemed to have a feeling of happy pleasantness. In the distance, there was a number of block structures, some even floating in the air.

He looked at himself. Dark denim blue overalls, white gloves, a light blue shirt, and a matching cap with a K on it.

As he studied the cap in his hands, he muttered, "Okay… I think the last thing I saw before this was opening a box and I think a Famicom cart was inside.."

After putting the cap back on and heading towards the structures, Keiichi muttered, "Might be safe to assume Mara or Hild is behind this. Stuck in a game… Kinda like Bug-tte Honey, but without any allies…"

He stopped to sigh, "Too bad it's not one of the Mario Kart games. I could've been a champ right at the start!"

A loud slam made Keiichi jump. He looked around and found that Bowser had landed near him. As Keiichi trembled a little, the 8 foot musclebound Bowser…

Waved Hello at him. Keiichi nervously returned the greeting.

Bowser proudly crossed his arms and said, "Looks like you already know who I am, but I still gotta do it. Besides, it's fun!"

Bowser stomped and put his hands on his hips, saying, "I am Bowser, the Great Demon King of the Koopas!"

A trembling Keiichi pointed at himself and said, "I'm Keiichi Morisato… I'm looking for my friends, Belldandy, Urd, Peorth, and Skuld. They're… Goddesses."

Bowser looked at the ground and rubbed his chin in thought. "I think I know where they are. A couple of jokers placed them in some of my castles and used some kinda magic to take over my minion army. Dunno who they are, just that they have powerful magic."

"Those are probably Hild and Mara. Hild is the Daimakaichō. Mara is her henchwoman. Both are demons," Keiichi explained, feeling a bit more calm.

"Huh… Not the first time I've dealt with demons trying to get on my turf," Bowser muttered. He looked at Keiichi and said with a smile, "Well, congrats on joining the Koopa Troop!"

"But I didn't join!" Keiichi exclaimed.

"You want your goddess friends back?" Bowser asked.

"Yes!" Keiichi replied.

"Then you'll be one of my minions!" Bowser replied.

"Why force me to join?" Keiichi asked.

"Because this land has an unspoken law of narrative. There must be a good guy and there must be a bad guy! An Evil vs Evil battle can only work and end when there's a good guy to take advantage of it here," Bowser explained with a shrug.

After a few moments, Keiichi sighed, "How about we get one of the Mario Brothers or even one of the princesses?"

"Can't. Mario and Peach are on Vacation. Luigi's working with some doctor to go after Ghosts. Rosalina's out in space. Donkey Kong's dealing with the Kremlings. Yoshi's probably with Mario," Bowser answered as he gestured for Keiichi to follow after him.

"And Princess Daisy?" Keiichi asked.

After a few moments, Bowser muttered, "I don't wanna."

Keiichi shrugged and said, "Alright."

"Look, I said I don't-Wait," Bowser angrily began. "You're not gonna try to get me to ask Daisy for help?"

"You have your reasons," Keiichi replied.

Bowser blinked. "Huh… Well, I guess I can give you the Tutorial then…"

In that, Mara sent the Goddesses and Keiichi in the modified game, but Bowser refused to play. The reason for that was Mara made the game way too difficult. So Mara trapped them in a Kaizo game. That's one where the game is modified to be very hard and full of nasty pranks, where Save states made it bearable for most folks.

Bowser then told Keiichi that he likes it when players get to him and fight, even if all they do is run to the end of the bridge and touch the ax. Kaizo games to him are like being asked to work on a day off, but given nothing to do and told they weren't allowed to be distracted by smartphone games or even take a bathroom break.

Bowser then orders his minions to free the goddesses and asks Keiichi if he and the goddesses would like to go through a safer version of the standard Super Mario games in person.

As for the thing between Bowser and Daisy, she once slapped him into the sky during one of the Mario Party games. Going by the Mario wiki, she also looks down on him.

Bug-tte Honey is an 1980's Isekai anime that mostly uses Hudson Soft's Adventure island series.
