The next morning while Graham is fixing them some coffee there is a small knock on the door. Ace opens up to see a small girl no more than six standing there.
"Can you help me find my mummy?"
Ace crunches down and can see a few familiar features in the young girl, "Of course I can. I just need to tell someone that I am heading out ok?"
The little girl sticks her thumb in her mouth and sniffles, "Okay."
Ace runs into the kitchen, almost knocking over Graham, "What's up honey?"
"Ok, that was new, a little girl needs help finding her mum and I swear she looks like my old friend Shreela. I will ask if she lives in the same house that she always had, and honey," an eyebrow goes up, "I like it sweetie." Ace walks out and Graham follows her wanting to help.
"Whose that," the little girl asks.
"My boyfriend Graham, I am Dorothy."
"I know that, my nanna has a few pictures framed of you. She almost named my mummy after you, but changed her mind. My mummy after hearing stories of you her whole life named me, Dory after you."
"Nice to meet you Dory." Ace takes her hand as they walk away from the house together, Graham not far behind them. "How long have you been out here?"
"Twenty minutes."
"That is a long time."
"I know my feets hurt."
"I bet." Graham who has been behind them the whole time comes up.
"Mind if I give you a piggyback ride?"
"I don't know?" She looks towards Ace.
"He is great." Graham gets down on his knees and Dory gets on it.
"Yo Shreela, where are you? I have something that matters to you."
"Dory, where are you?" A frazzled mom shouts young mom around age 26.
"Dory, where are you," her grandmother shouts.
Ace hears this, "SHREELA I Found her!" hearing her friend's voice for the first time in around 3 decades, Shreela turns around. Graham feels the young girl starting to wiggle sets her down as she runs to her mother and grandmother. After Shreela stops hugging her granddaughter she goes to her friend that she sees holding a hand of someone she doesn't recognize with a small smile on her face.
"Hello Ace."
"Hello Shreela." The two old friends laugh and start to hug, "you started a family."
"You started a foundation and someone is with you I see."
"I do," Ace's smile grows wider, "this is Graham O'Brien, we have been together for a few months."
Shreela sticks out her hand, "Nice to meet you Graham."
"Nice to meet you, Shreela, I have heard a little bit about you."
"You have? Ace and I haven't talked in what, thirty-some years?" She looks at her old childhood friend who just shrugs. "She looks happier. Each time I see her she gets happier and happier."
"That's on her. She looked just as happy when I met her."
"It's a combination of many things, A Charitable Earth is now back to normal, UNIT for the most part is doing well, my two best friends now live in the same country, and I am in a healthy relationship with someone who accepts all of me."
"I knew there was a reason I put up that plaque when I became Head Mistress of the school."
"That was you?!"
"Yes, our old ones were embarrassed that the person they kicked out was now, well who you are."
"So you decided to shove it in their faces that you were proud of me."
"Yes of course I did. I also knew more about what happened than anyone else. Most people thought you ran away." Shreela looks at her daughter and granddaughter, "Looks like they are trying to leave. How about the two of you come over for dinner tonight."
Ace looks at Graham who just smiles as it's ok with him, "We have no plans."
"You do now, come at 5:30."
"See you then? Where in Perivale do you live?"
"The same place my parents did," Shreela says with an eye roll.
"I remember it, see you tonight." After her friend walks off with her family, Ace faces Graham again.
"That went better than Tag."
"It sure did, now come on babe." Ace grabs his hand and they walk away from the park.
"Are you sure you're fine with the pet name?" Ace stops in her tracks and turns around again and brings her lips to Graham's.
"I am."
"Ok."
"Graham I am serious, I like the pet name."
"Honey."
"Yes."
"Sweetie."
"I also called you that," Ace has a smile growing on her face.
"Baby," Ace shakes her head at that one. "I think I like saying pet names to you. I just didn't know how you would react to any of them."
"Well, as long as you are ok with hearing some from me; I will be happy to hear some from you. Now come on Babe."
