"You're not much of a smiler," Karuizawa commented. "Are you, Ayanoköji?"

"Oh, you noticed?" Ayanoköji muttered dryly, his face as blank as ever.

"I've noticed since we all started at this school." The blonde girl narrowed her eyes. "Why is it you don't ever smile?"

"It's just something I don't do." The emotionless boy shrugged. "Nothing more simple than that."

Karuizawa frowned. She didn't know how she had managed to fall for someone as apathetic as this. She couldn't see how they could go on dating if he was never going to smile.

Determined to change that, she placed her hands onto Ayanoköji's cheeks, making her look directly at her as she grinned ambitiously.

"Well I bet I can make you smile," she declared.

"Oh really?" Ayanoköji raised an eyebrow as he gazed indifferently at the girl. "You think so?"

"Uh huh!" Karuizawa nodded confidently. "I'll be the one to put a smile on that sour, grunt face of yours."

"I'd like to see you try…"

"And that's just what you will see!"

Karuizawa took a deep breath, then made her move to curl Ayanoköji's lips into a smile - by pressing her own against them.

The girl closed her eyes as she kissed the boy passionately. She couldn't help how she felt for him. Ayanoköji was such an impassive person who seemed to care for no one other than himself. Not to mention he always used other people as tools for his own gain. Karuizawa was perfectly aware of what kind of person he was.

And yet he was the only one at the school who made her feel safe. He had promised to protect her whenever she was in trouble. He had proved good as his word whenever he had saved her from bullies. Maybe that was why she was sure there was a heart somewhere deep down in that blank slate he presented himself as.

Karuizawa pulled her lips away as she opened her blue eyes. They twinkled as they gazed into Ayanoköji's golden ones - which were as empty as ever.

"Was that it?" he asked in a bored voice. "Was that supposed to be your effort to make me smile?"

Karuizawa stared. Then a glare crossed her face in all of her frustration. She had just given her first kiss to the boy before her - and yet he was still refusing to give her a smile, let alone show any kind of elation in response.

"Ugh!" Karuizawa groaned heatedly. "You're the worst, Ayanoköji! It's no wonder you were placed in Class D!"

The blonde swung around, storming off in her intense annoyance as she left Ayanoköji all on his own.

Remaining stood where he was, the boy watched as the girl he had succeeded to tick off head away in a huff. Using his great calculating skills he had picked up in the White Room, Ayanoköji made sure Karuizawa was not going to glance back at him - so she would not catch the corners of his mouth slowly curling upwards…

The end.
