Ace and Graham are distracted from their current activity with a constant banging on the door, "who in the hell would that be," Ace almost growls while detaching her lips from Graham's.

"Let's just try and ignore whoever it is," he starts to attack her neck.

"DOROTHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY, GRAHAMMMMMMMMMMMMM," Tegan bellows through the front door.

"What does she want, Graham get dressed," Ace leans down and picks up his shirt from the day before. She marches down and swings open the door, "what do you want?"

"What can't two friends show up randomly to visit their oldest friend and a newer friend." They didn't notice Graham had snuck down and started a pot of coffee. He has a cup ready for Ace when they come into the kitchen smelling the coffee. He starts to get Tegan's and Nyssa's ready too. "Hopefully we didn't interrupt anything?"

"Does Tegan want coffee or not," Graham goes back to making Nyssa's.

"She does."

"Then I suggest you keep your comments to yourself," both Ace and Nyssa try to contain a laugh.

"Hmmph." Tegan remains from opening her mouth.

"Not that I am not happy that you two are here," Ace looks at a clock on the wall, eyes going wide, "noon on a Monday, why aren't you at UNIT?"

"That is because of me, Kate knew this was coming and gave both Tegan and I the day to come here."

"What day would that be?"

"The day I am done with UNIT, I tried for 3 weeks after everything that happened and this isn't the first attack that has happened since I have been back. I was wondering if a position is still open for me?"

Ace gets up and pulls Nysssa into a hug, "of course it is. As much as I was hoping that you could remain at UNIT, I purposely wasn't hiring anyone in that position."

"Thank you Ace."

"Of course, now should we go and call A Charitable Foundation to tell them about me?"

"Yes, we should come on."

After they leave Tegan turns to Graham, "you have Nyssa and I to help you pick out a ring for Ace."

"She told you?"

"Yes, she did, and I happen to know that Ace will say yes."

"That is good to know."

"It is, now have you talked to Ryan about this," Graham starts to blush.

"Is this the first time you two have been out of bed?"

"No."

"Food and bathroom doesn't count."

"Then yes."

"You two have been together for how long?"

"4 months, almost 5."

"Here we thought Ace was moving slow," Tegan let out a laugh.

"We both know how short life can be, and I don't want to waste another minute of it."

"I know."

"Do you know when you are going to propose?"

"Depending if we find a ring in time, New Year's Eve."

"What's New Year's Eve?"

"Just that Ryan is meeting everyone else at the party."

"He did say he was coming to it. Here I was thinking that Nyssa would have you help figure out more."

'"That would be good."

"Want to come with?"

"No thank you, I think I will hang out with Ryan for a bit."

"That will be good, just the two of you."

"Hello, you still have people here."

"Tegan, do you want to come with Nyssa and I?"

"Sure, I haven't seen your office for a while."

"That reminds me," Ace runs off to grab a picture from her bedroom. "I am going to add this to my desk." She puts a picture of her and Graham that was taken in Perivale next to the front door.

"Wow, Ace putting up a picture on her desk that isn't of her and helping others?"

"Yes, I am." With that she heads up stairs again to change.

"Did Tegan tell you?"

"Yes, she did. I thank you both." Ace comes down in a blue power suit.

"Is that your favorite suit or something? You were wearing that when we had to defeat The Master and again in the first meeting."

"It is."

"It brings out her eyes." With a small kiss to his cheek the three women are gone.

"So what were the two of you really talking about before Nyssa and I came into the kitchen again?"

"Something you will love, that is all I am saying." Ace tries to look at both of her friends when stopped at a red light, but both of them are avoiding her eyes.

Graham enters his now old apartment to find Ryan on the couch looking at pictures. "Are you going to ask Ace to marry you?"

"I am."

"Have you visited Gran lately?"

"Yes, both Ace and I did. She wanted to meet her."

"She did?"

"Yes she did, she even had a long conversation with her grave."

"That is good to hear."

"Grace is still in my heart, and always will be. My heart is just growing more room for someone else."

"I know, and Ace is a good person. Yaz has talked about her too and told me that she is one of the reasons she has made it through these past few months."

"Ace is someone with a big heart. She started her foundation to help out disadvantaged kids like herself and the good aliens accumulate to earth customs. You know she cares about you like a grandson too."

"I guess that means I will have a Step-Grandad and Step-Gran."

"You will, and the two of us will always be there for you."

"I know."

"You just didn't expect for me to be ready to propose to someone only after a few months of dating?"

"I didn't, but on Christmas I saw when Tegan was teasing the two of you how you were rubbing your finger."

"I didn't realize I was doing that."

"You were, I was going to call you and ask you."

"Ask me what?"

"Are you happy?"

"Yes I am, are you ok with me asking Ace to marry me?"

"I am."

"Good, minus her two best friends you are the first to know about my plans."

"When are you asking her to be your life companion?"

Graham laughs a little but, "what a wonderful way to put it, I am aiming for New Year's Eve."

"Really?"

"Yes, Tegan and Nyssa are going to help me find the perfect ring for Ace and how we live our life."

"That won't be a bad idea."

"Thank you, so what else do you have planned today?"

"Nothing."

"Want to do something?"

"I am good, I will see you this weekend."

"Ok," Graham leaves to head to his new home and smiles at it.

Two days later after going through two shops looking for the perfect ring for Ace, Graham is starting to get discouraged. "There has to be a ring somewhere that you will love and we all know Ace will too." Tegan tells Graham trying to encourage him.

"I don't know Tegan."

"Are you having second thoughts," Nyssa comes up beside him.

"No I am not. I have been working while we are right next to each other. What I am going to say to her."

"You have?"

"Yes, this is a major point in our lives as a couple."

"Then come on, we have this one more store today before you need to be back home."

"I will also go to the grocery store to pick up a few things."

"As a cover?"

"Yes, as a cover." They walk into the jewelry store and head to the display case.

"What are we looking for today?"

"An engagement ring for his girlfriend," Tegan points to Graham.

"Is she here?"

"No, my wife and I are close to his girlfriend." Nyssa is looking at a 2-karat small cut ring.

"Graham, come here." He walks over to it.

"Wow," he goes into his mind imagining Ace making more Nitro-999, singing documents, at events for her charity. "I think this is the one, sir, is there a way I can get this one?"

"Yes, it is 1,243 pounds."

"Ok, what size is it?"

"Let me see," the shop owner takes it out, "a size 7."

"That is her size, Graham, you need to get it."

"I know Nyssa," Graham looks to the man with white bushy eyebrows, "I'll take it."

"How will you be paying for it?"

"Cash." Graham takes out a wad of pound sterling and pays for the ring and it gets put into a small blue box that almost looks like TARDIS blue. "Thank you sir." They walk out of the store with a large smile on Graham's face.

New Year's Eve the party is in full swing, Graham sneaks out to the car and goes into the glove box to get the ring. With a hopeful sigh he goes back into the building. Ace walks up to him, "why did you go outside."

"Just needed some fresh air."

"Getting ready to give me a New Year's kiss?"

"I am always ready to kiss you," he leans in and gives her a small kiss.

"Oi, you two come join the party," Ace grabs his hand as they rejoin the party.

Tegan goes up to Graham while he is getting him and Ace something to drink, "have you asked yet?"

"No, I am waiting for the countdown."

"So in about 5 minutes."

"Yes." Graham walks back up to Ace and hands her the drink.

"You look nervous."

"I am not nervous, why would I be?" Ace sizes him up.

"Ok, I believe you." They move to watch the clock start to count down from 4 minutes. Ace notices Tegan, Ace and Ryan look their way every so often. "Why do they keep looking at us?"

"I don't know." They stand there for a bit.

"5,"

"Ace."

"4"

"Yeah," she turns to him.

"3, 2,1"

Ace starts kissing him, "is that a sonic in your pocket or are you happy to see me?"

"It's not a sonic, I have a question to ask you though," he starts to get down on one knee as Tegan, Nyssa and Ryan take out their phones. "Will you make me happier than I already am? I love you, will you marry me, Dorothy Gale McShane?"

"Yes, I'll marry you," he puts the ring on her finger and they share a kiss. Everyone stopped and looked at what was going on when the lights shine down on the ring. They pull apart and everyone comes to them to give them hugs and congratulations.

"What a way to begin a New Year, getting engaged," Ian says to them, as he heads out to catch a taxi. Everyone stayed for a while longer celebrating Ace and Graham, some singing horribly and Mel was dancing. Ace and Graham are the first to leave to have their own private celebration.
