Prologue:
Ginny chased Harry through the corridors of Hogwarts as chaos ensued around them. If she hadn't looked over just in time to see him dashing away into the building, then she might not have suspected anything to be wrong. It was unlike Harry to run away from a fight, especially when he was at the forefront of it.
Hidden in the Room of Hidden Things was the Mirror of Erised. It showed people their deepest desires, and the rumour was that it dually acted as a time machine. Nobody believed this to be true until now, when Harry became so desperate to save his friends and family that he knew he had to try. He thought that, if it could show him his desires, then it could also let him live them. There had to have been more than just regular magic to this mirror to make it do such unworldly things. Perhaps Dumbledore hadn't been entirely truthful towards Harry when he first discovered this mirror, or perhaps he just left a few important details out for his own sake.
There wasn't a plan. No, there never was a plan. Harry was never a man with a plan. He just sort of figured it out as he went, and hoped for the best. Though this time he had a very loose plan in the back of his mind: find his parents, stop Voldemort, and live happily ever after. It sounded good to him, and he decided to go for it. Unbeknownst to him, Ginny had tagged along to try and talk him out of doing something reckless.
"What are you doing here, Harry?" She asked him, and she was slightly out of breath from the fighting and the chasing. He noticed Ginny was rather tattered and beaten, and it only wretched him more with guilt. His friends were getting hurt to protect him, and people close to him had already died doing the same exact thing. Perhaps he wasn't doing the most sane or reasonable thing right now, but his intentions were good. He just hoped that people would realise that when this was all over. "We need you out there."
"I have to save my parents." Harry quietly explained. "I have to stop Voldemort."
"Stop Voldemort? He's right outside, Harry! You can stop him right now!"
He shook his head. "No, there has to be another way. If I can go back in time to the night when my parents died and just warn them of what's coming, then they can destroy Voldemort and make it so none of this will happen." Ginny's throat dried up, and she was at loss for words. The way he was speaking made it sound like there was no other way out of this. Things were bleak, but not hopeless. "My parents will destroy Voldemort, and when I come back everything will be normal."
Ginny took a few steps towards him with empathy on her face, and she placed a hand gently on his shoulder to try and reassure him. "Harry," she softly spoke. "You can't mess with time."
"Well, I have to."
"Everything happens for a reason, you know? Your parents, they…erm, died to protect you. If not for that then you wouldn't be standing here today-"
Harry was known to be hot headed at times, and this was one of those times. His emotions just got the best of him during this very bad situation, and Ginny didn't necessarily hold it against him for lashing out. He shrugged her hand off his shoulder and glared at her, "If they never died for me then none of this would be happening, Ginny!" She winced at the height of his voice, but said nothing in return. "Too many people have died for me, and I want them back. I want to take it all back and make it so none of this ever has to happen again."
"But Harry-" Ginny tried to say before a loud crash could be heard from the other side of the room. They both turned their heads and watched a flock of Death Eaters storm the room with their wands shooting fire and other spells all around, and panic arose in both Ginny and Harry. The Mirror of Erised was becoming more and more opaque in just seconds, and when they were spotted they only had two options: go in, or disappear.
"Ginny, leave! Now!" Harry shouted at her. "You need to go somewhere where it's safe!"
"Not without you!" She wasn't quite sure what to do, as her heart was beating faster by the second. Her head was spinning as well, and it felt like the room was going to collapse on them. Harry was halfway through the portal when a Death Eater casted a binding spell towards them in the hopes to collect, and because she had touched him once more during this time, Harry accidentally pulled Ginny through the portal as well.
They landed in front of a sign that read, "Welcome to Godric's Hollow".
