Enchanted
Chapter 5
Months elapsed, the Winchester walked by a familiar location. Somehow the investigation they discovered led them back here. Sam and Dean were in the middle of discussion when they accidentally bumped into someone they knew. Melinda Halliwell.
"Hey."
"Hey."
Melinda and Dean replied in unison and surprised at the view from one another. Dean examined her, but didn't see an enormous belly that he had imagined.
"Are you? Am I-" Dean implored, curiously.
"No." Melinda riposted, which notified her he had guessed what she was trying to utter those months ago.
In response, Dean let out a sigh of relief.
"I guess you might say, it all worked out."
"Huh? Why do you say that?" Dean questioned.
"Well…At one point, I thought I was was after we went our separate ways. But! It was a false alarm. I know your feelings towards my family and vice-versa. Also, I remember you telling me that you didn't want your children to grow up in this type of lifestyle, like you and your brother had. I recalled you expressing that you actually tried settling down and being so called normal with another woman and well…That didn't go as planned. So, what happened was for the better." Melinda revealed, and turned to leave.
"Melinda wait!" Dean called out, but he was too late.
Melinda took a few steps further, and then twirled around to face Dean.
"Sam and I are here on a case. Would you like to join? That is, if you want to, or still fight this?" Dean urged.
"Sure," Melinda commented.
"Meet up in an hour?"
"Can it be tomorrow? I have something already arranged this evening," Melinda informed.
"Yeah."
"Unless, you can't? Don't wait on me, if it's based on saving someone."
"No, it's just research."
"Ah, okay."
"I'll call you."
"Okay."
Later on, Dean had entered the bar and still the riveted questions repeated itself in his mind. Sam had gone to do something concerning the inquisition they were working on. Dean couldn't focus on it, not now. Something was up with Melinda. She wasn't acting like herself. Dean peered up and instantly jumped at the sight of Melinda's mother, Piper Halliwell.
"I gotta stop doing that!"
"Yeah, drinking heavily isn't a smart idea," The bar owner suggested.
"Actually, I was referring to letting my guard down," Dean exhibited.
Piper nodded and threw down the towel she was using to wipe the clean, clear shot glasses with. She requested the following.
"Dean, we…I need your help!"
"A witch needing my help?"
"Dean! It's a serious matter. It's about Melinda."
"What about her? I just spoke to her a few minutes ago."
"Yeah, but she has been wearing an invisible mask. We are very concerned about her. She won't talk to us! I guess it's my fault for pushing her. See after you left she wanted to fight the bad guys, which she did. At first, I thought she was coming around, getting her mind settled from things and moving on. However, one night I began to worry for her and just something was not right! So, I told Leo, her father, to go and check on her. What he found was Melinda in tears hunching over calling out your name. Even though she's not magically as we are, her spells do carry a punch. Few days passed, and I decided to sneak into Melinda's bathroom, which was conjoined to her bedroom. Thereupon, I found three negative pregnancy tests. When I mentioned this to her. Her only reply was she thought she was pregnant, but it was a faulty panic. I'm not angry at her at all, just rattled. Matter of fact, it got me back into making protection potions for Melinda. Wyatt has been keeping tabs on her, but somehow she's blocked him. And Chris, well…That's a inconsistent story. Anyways, I brought you here, because I thought maybe you could get through to her."
"So, the distressful phone call about Melinda in trouble that it was a life, or death situation to only get me here was untrue?" Dean challenged.
"Not entirely. Melinda hasn't let up on getting rid of those monsters."
"I don't see any problems there."
"Dean! She doesn't stop for nothing! She hardly eats, sleeps, or even bathes! She is obsessed with this!" Piper emphasized.
"We're supposed to meet up tomorrow for a research session on a case that I'm working on. I'll see what I can do. I can't make any promises though," Dean relayed.
"Thank you, Dean."
"No problem. How much do I owe you?" Dean beseech, as he placed the empty beer container down.
"Oh-this time, Dean. It's on the house," Piper disclosed.
"Thanks!"
"You're welcome. There's something you should also comprehend."
"She told me about the false pregnancy scare-"
"It's not that… It's her past love life. I think this is something you need to know," Piper alleged.
"Okay?"
"Melinda lost someone very dear to her, to us all." Piper announced and presented a clear small bottle with a slight of black liquid at the bottom. Next, she included."It would be preferable, if you saw it for yourself."
Piper broke the tiny crystal ware that held a substance that could take them to Melinda's previous history.
Once the mists cleared, Dean was at an inconclusive area to him. Although, the woman's laughter that echoed was recognizable.
"Mel?" Dean whispered, as he mosey towards her, but halted in his tracks.
"Dean, this is her past. Long before you. This Melinda doesn't and can't hear you. Please, just watch!" Piper pointed out and pivoted endemically with her attention on the couple.
In doing so, Dean mocked the same movement.
In an earlier time, Melinda was greeted with a kiss from another man. The man was tall and slender. They both seated were on their cloth loveseat. They were going through some papers, when suddenly the phone rang. At which, the man got up to answered it.
"Thanks for letting me know." The man conveyed and briefed Melinda what had occurred.
Afterwards, the man positioned himself beside Melinda, as they finished watching a movie. The prior typed computer sheets are long forgotten.
Dean glanced at Piper, but no smile was on her face. Dean simply looked back at the scene. All things seem normal, until a figure appeared before them. The fiend held a dagger between its fingertips.
The disguised man went towards Melinda in a quick attempt aiming for her. When she expected death to follow from it, Melinda was relieved that it didn't , she celebrated too quickly, for something red caught her eyes. Melinda leered over at the man, who had taken the blow that was meant for her. The blood began to ooze out of the wounded area. He barely had enough strength to steady his body upwards. In of his attempts, to still fight this brute.
"Kes? KES! No, NO!" Melinda cried out.
Melinda went into a room to retrieve a potion. Despite that, the vermin stopped her and plastered her to the wall. In a bizarre voice, it spoke.
"I think this will do. I will make you watch this!"
Melinda's eyes grew wide and when flames began to engulf her husband, she screamed out.
Consequently, the monstrosity stabbed her in the stomach, as she too was about to lose consciousness. Without notice, she witnessed a bright blue light.
"NOOO! You bastard!" Melinda shouted, as she apprehended the increased distance.
The so-called episode changed, Piper and Dean were at a graveyard.
'Kestern Williamson' was in bold print on the tombstone and added, 'Beloved son and Husband.'
The sequence from years ago ended and it made Dean swallow hard.
"I-"
The silence filled the air, as Piper continued.
"Kestern, Kes was a good man and a wonderful doctor. He loved Melinda with all his being. He even loved us all. He didn't mind that we are witches. In the end, Melinda has been blaming herself for what happened, because she couldn't save him. The one innocent that perished will always haunt her. I really thought she would told you this?"
"No, she didn't."
With that, Piper sighed.
The door opened at Piper's club and Melinda strode in.
"Melinda, everything okay?" Her mother pressed.
"Yeah, I just forgot something." Melinda replied, as she obtained the small vial that was behind the counter.
"Wait, you did a spell, didn't you?" Melinda inquired, as she felt the sudden shift in the atmosphere.
"Yes."
"Everything okay?" Melinda probed, as she noted nothing was out of tack at P3.
"Dean, acknowledges the truth about what happened that day," Piper asserted.
"Seriously? You told him?!"
"More like I showed him, but yes I did. I figured it was something he needed to perceive."
"Ugh!" Melinda declared, furiously.
Now, Dean understood the reason behind her actions.
In a calm manner, Melinda said. "It was bound to happen, sooner or later."
More to come!
