In the future, an older Mike Wheeler is asked why he always calls his partner El instead of her name, Jane.
"Jane and I first met when we were kids. You might think she's pretty quiet now, but – whew! I think she only spoke maybe a dozen words total in the first whole year we knew each other. Anyway, I introduced myself as Mike, and when I asked her name, she was so nervous she said her age, Eleven, instead. So I started calling her El. And we – my friends and I – called her El for almost two years before she finally said 'hey, yeah, my name's actually Jane.' But she was El now, and she'll always be El to me."
Because season four made me wonder why no one at school asked why Jane's stepbrother Will called her El either, and I had to come up with El's cover story.
