What's up, everyone! This is GKC here bringing you the next chapter of my Pokémon story.
Now for the disclaimer: I do not own, except my OCs, the Pokémon series. All rights belong to their respective owners.
Now let's get this party started… BEGIN!
Edit: A reviewer pointed out I made a mistake with Tyrunt's origins. Thank you for mentioning that. I got it mixed up.
Chapter 3: A New Friend and…Rival?
"Welcome to the Pokémon Center. How may I help you?" Nurse Joy asked with a bright smile.
"You can start by mending my broken heart!" Brock suddenly beamed; his eyes replaced with pink hearts. "I can see it now. You and me, a candlelight dinner by the-"
"Yeah, no." I said bluntly, grabbing the former Gym Leader's ear and began pulling him away. "We came here to get Absol healed. Not to watch you fail at romance."
"Not the ear." Brock winced from the pain.
"Wow, reminds me of Misty." Ash said with a chuckle.
"Pika, pika." Pikachu added in agreement from Ash's shoulder.
"Misty?" May asked.
"She's a friend that I used to travel with. Whenever Brock gets lovey-dovey with Nurse Joy, Officer Jenny, or… pretty much anyone that's female and has a pulse, Misty pulls him on his ear and drags him away."
"Every time?" Max pondered.
"Pretty much, yeah. The only exception seems to be girls that do bad things." Ash replied.
"Wow, she sounds tough." May said with awe.
Me, on the other hand, I did not want to deal with Brock's flirting at the moment. I'm sore, tired, and my Absol might have gotten hurt by those idiots in Team Rocket. I've about run out of patience for anime hijinks.
"Nurse Joy, if you would be so kind as to heal my Absol, that would be appreciated." I said, placing Absol's Poké Ball on the tray, and then after still dragged Brock away by his ear.
"Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow!" Brock complained.
"Oh, toughen up, ya big baby," I rolled my eyes, before dragging him outside and letting go of his ear.
"Man, and I thought I got out of that habit…" Brock whined, holding his aching ear.
Rolling my eyes, I gave the older teen a scowl, "Look, it's none of my business on who you flirt with but there is a time and a place for it. This is not that time."
"Right, okay. Sorry."
"Good grief man, how long have you been doing this?" I sighed.
"Uh…"
"You know what, don't answer that. I can already make a good guess." I groaned. I knew it was ridiculous watching Brock throughout the series, but man, this is even more annoying in person. I was glad they replaced him with Cilan and Clemont in the later series, after Diamond and Pearl. It gets irritating after four generations.
Anyways, after that whole predicament with Team Rocket, I decided to follow Ash and his friends to a Pokémon Center to get Absol some much needed rest. After that, I'm probably gonna head off on my own towards Rustboro City.
As much as I wanna join Ash and company on their journey. I have my own way of traveling. Plus, there's what Arceus had said. If this calamity it spoke of is bigger than that of Team Aqua and Magma, God forbid, bigger than Team Galactic, then I can't put them in danger.
Heh, though I suspect they'll get in trouble no matter what. Still, they're kids. They shouldn't be a part of such a dangerous task. I'll probably meet back up with them every once in a while, but as long as they don't get caught up with my problems, then it should be fine.
"Hey, Chris!" I heard Ash call out my name. When I looked at the entrance, the boy was waving a hand at me. "Nurse Joy says that Absol's all done."
I smiled at the thought of my partner. Even though she can be such a tsundere at times or even a pain when she decides to shock me, I can already tell that she and I are becoming good friends. "Thanks, kid." I replied, heading back inside the Center.
"Oh, and I wanted to ask something. Would it be cool if we had a Battle?" He asked.
…
…
"What?"
"I want to have a Pokémon Battle with you."
"Whoa, hold on, where did this come from?" I asked, surprised. Okay maybe, Ash is probably still a bit dull on tact. Absol still needs to rest after everything she went through.
"When I saw how strong Absol was, I just couldn't help but want to battle it!" Ash explained his reasoning.
Right, I forgot. Ash loves to battle, no matter who his opponent is or if he has type disadvantage. Sometimes I secretly think he's a battle maniac.
"No offense Ash, but I don't think now's a good time." I spoke. "After what Absol went through, it wouldn't be right to have her battle right after she gets healed."
"Oh, come on." Ash whined like the kid he is.
"I said, no." I stated. Ah, man. Don't give me the disappointed look, it makes it seem like I just kicked a puppy. "Uh, tell you what, I'll make you deal. When you and I get a full team of Pokémon, we'll have an all-out battle. Sounds good?"
"Really?! You mean it?!" Ash asked happily.
"Yup. Promise." I nodded.
Ash grinned, "I'll hold you to that. Just know, I won't lose our battle." He vowed.
"Really? I'll see it to believe it." I shot back with a smirk. What the kid doesn't know is that I know his Hoenn team and how he battles. Not to mention, he only got into the Top 8, if only because of that Meowth dressed like Puss in Boots.
Still, I gotta give the kid credit. He's one of the most unorthodox Pokémon Trainers in both the games and anime. I've gotta be careful if I ever do battle him.
"In the meantime, I could go for some dinner." Ash said out of the blue, much to my amusement.
"I get a feeling that you focus more on battles and food than anything else." I said with a chuckle.
"Hey, what's that supposed to mean?!" Ash retorted.
"You know exactly what it means." I said, patting the kid on the head. "Come on, let's head inside and see what's on the menu."
I hope I don't have to eat Pokémon.
3rd POV
Meanwhile…
"I keep telling you, Kuromu," A young woman spoke. "Hoenn is a lot different from Sinnoh. Just imagine the different Pokémon and even the kinds of culinary arts out here!"
"Yeah, I get that Rika, but why does it have to be so freakin' warm?" A young man, now known as Kuromu, complained as the two walked down the ramp of the boat that just docked.
"Hey, it's not my fault you didn't wear shorts." The young woman, Rika pointed out with a teasing grin, looking at her childhood friend.
The young man in question had medium-length unkempt brown hair with a fringe that's fanned out front and has blue eyes. His attire consists of a navy blue t-shirt with a large gold trident-shaped crest imprinted in the middle, with the short sleeves being black. The bottom half consisted of him wearing denim jeans and black shoes. He also had a white jacket and a newsboy cap that had a semi-pokéball on each side.
"I wanted to look good for the Hoenn League when it comes around!" Kuromu said.
"There is looking good and then there is suffering from future heatstroke." Rika pointed out with a dry look. "Unlike you, I came prepared."
Kuromu looking at his friend, she had long burgundy hair that fell to her back and green eyes as she wore a sleeveless orange shirt with a light blue stripe running down from her navel all the way to her collarbone, a pair of white short shorts with a black leather belt, black ankle stockings, yellow-blue running shoes, blue wristbands, and cyan sunglasses nestled on her head.
"Yet, you still have that lab coat stuffed in your bag that you just happened to "borrow" from Professor Rowan before we left…" Kuromu emphasized the word borrow with air quotes.
"Hey, you ain't got no right to judge me, Mr. I'm Crushing on the Champ!" Rika exclaimed.
"W-What's Cynthia-neechan have to do with anything?!" Kuromu stammered.
"Oh, you think I don't know about the secret picture of her that you keep in your wallet?" Rika smirked. "Especially the picture that features her in one of her favorite swimsuits?"
Kuromu blushed heavily, "O-Oh yeah?! Then what's with the secret stash of magazines that featured Elesa?!"
"Those are fashion magazines and she's one of the only known Gym Leaders I read about who doubles as a fashion model." Rika said dryly. "And the purpose of them being secret is just that. So how do you know about them?" She gave her friend a scrutinizing glare.
"I know you have a crush on her…" Kuromu deadpanned, making Rika flinch.
"S-So what if I do? What person wouldn't have a crush on her?" She shot back. "And you're dodging the question. Did you go through my stuff again?!"
"Only because you were so into your research on Pokémon Nutrition that you completely forget everything else around you and your mom asked me to help clean your room and I just happened to find them." Kuromu explained. "Which by the way, I also happened to find… oh what were they? Ah yes, love letters to her?"
"Keep talking like that and I'll tell Cynthia about one of your other pictures of her in a certain kind of suit." She warned.
"Ho~?" Kuromu got out, looking at her with a condescending look, looking down on her. "So you've been going through my stuff, eh?"
"Need I remind you that you don't exactly hide your stuff all that well." Rika shot back with a smirk. "It was practically peeking out under your pillow."
"Just like how you have a secret shrine dedicated to Elesa in your back closet while I was cleaning your room too?" Kuromu shot back.
"You wanna go?!" She narrowed her eyes, slamming her forehead onto Kuromu's.
"Gah!" Kuromu cried out as he staggered back, while holding his forehead. "Why you little-!" He growled, before stomping over to her and pulled on both her cheeks.
"Itaaaaaaaaaaai! Itaitaitaitaitaiiiiiii!"
"Dou da?! How do ya like that, haaaah?!" Kuromu laughed out with a crazed look, pulling on her cheeks harder.
"Oh yeah? Two can play at that!" Rika then started pulling on the boy's cheeks herself. The unintended crowd that stopped to look at the commotion could only sweat drop at what they're seeing.
"Mommy, why are they hurting each other?" A little girl asked her mother.
"Don't look at them, sweetie. Weird couples like them are not a good thing to get mixed up in." The mother replied, ushering her child away.
(1st POV)
"How's it tastes, girl?" I asked Absol after giving her a bowl of Pokémon Food made for Dark-Types. At least, one of the brands featuring different berries.
"Sol." She replied, happily. A few crumbs of food were present around her face.
"Heh, still a messy-"
*C-C-RACKLE!*
"Okay, okay. I won't say it." I raised my hands in defense.
"Sol." She huffed, looking away from me before she went back to eating her meal.
"Man, there's just no form of complimenting you…" I muttered, going back to the dining table to eat my own food.
"Has Absol always been like that?" Max pondered.
Oh right, I forgot that the kids were still here. We all decided to have dinner together. Brock cooked up most of the food while I helped do a few entrees just to lighten the burden for him.
"Yeah, sometimes I think she's a little bit of a princess." I replied in a joking manner.
"Given how she shocked you, that's an understatement." May commented.
I couldn't help but groan, "Don't remind me. I still get a twitch whenever I hear lightning forming."
"Wow, that must be rough." Ash chuckled while he munched on a loaf of garlic bread.
"I'm sure it was the same with you and your Pikachu." I said, as I looked at the electric mouse… licking the top of a ketchup bottle. So he still likes ketchup to this day, huh?
"Pi?"
"Yeah, I get what you mean." The boy said with a sheepish chuckle.
Heh, at least he's honest. I take a spoonful of tomato soup and gulp it down in one bite, ignoring the brief feeling of heat. Hm, I think the spices I added work just right for this. Perfect for a grilled cheese.
"Wow, this soup is really good and so are these sandwiches." Max commented, taking a bite from his own sandwich after he had dunked it into the soup for a bit.
Brock chimed in with a grin, "That was Chris's doing. He made the soup and the sandwiches."
"Really?" May said while she and the other kids looked at me. "I didn't know you could cook."
"You never asked." I pointed out with a sly grin. "Besides, I lived by myself before coming here, so I had to be self-sustaining somehow."
"That makes a lot of sense." Ash said in response.
"Besides, it's better to learn such skills when you're out on your own. I'm no great chef like Brock but I've got my skills through trial and error." I explained.
"Yeah, I know what you mean, especially when I got my brothers and sisters to look after." Brock said.
I can sympathize with him. Thankfully, my own younger brothers are grown up and at least know enough to take care of themselves. "I guess that's why it's tough being a big brother."
"Huh? You've got siblings?" Ash pondered.
"Two younger brothers. I don't really have to worry about them since they know some skills to take care of themselves."
"Sometimes I kinda worry about Max." May looked at her brother with a frown.
"Hey, I can look after myself!" Max said, looking indignant.
"Well, you do seem to be the smart one." I point out.
"Hey, what's that supposed to mean?" May glared at me with a pout.
"Well, I don't mean anything by it but," I had a fox-like grin on my face."You just seem like a girl that's more focused on getting what she wants rather than think of the consequences."
"Sounds like my sister alright." Max snickered.
To my slight shock, May wrapped an arm around Max's neck and started nooging him hard on the head. "Say that again, I dare you!"
"Owowowowow! May, that hurts! Let go!" Max cried out in pain.
"Hm, so this is what it's like to see a sibling squabble." I commented while eating my sandwich.
"Have your siblings ever fought before?" Brock asked.
"Well, yeah, we argued. Sometimes, it usually gets physical." I replied with a sheepish grin.
"Sounds rough." Ash said with a frown while Pikachu nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, but at the end of the day, we get over it eventually." I shrugged. "Sometimes, it's a way of bonding to get over your differences."
"Wow, I'm a little jealous I don't have siblings." Ash remarked.
I chuckled, "I wouldn't say that. After all, those you travel with, be they human or Pokémon, will actually be like family to you."
"Heh, that I can agree with." Ash chuckled. "So what's next for you, after this? Will you be heading out on your own, or maybe you could join us?"
"Well, my next stop is Rustboro City. I'm hoping to get my first Gym Badge there." I told the boy. "Not sure it would be right if I went with a group of kids though."
"Why do you say that?" Brock inquired.
"Uh, I'm actually a lot older than you guys." I pointed out.
"Really?" May looked at me in surprise, while Max was recovering from his noogie. "But you look around Brock's age."
I chuckled sheepishly, "I get that a lot. Trust me."
…Unless Arceus de-aged me somehow to fit me in the Pokémon world. I mean, it is the God of the Pokémon world, so it would make sense.
"Are you sure about that?" Max didn't seem all that convinced.
"Swear to Arceus."
May then for some reason reached into her pocket and pulled out one of those makeup pocket mirrors. "Here. Take a look for yourself,"
I was confused, but nonetheless took it. I flipped the pocket mirror open and-
…
Oh.
Dear.
Arceus.
My face! I look exactly like I did back in high school! I don't even have my facial hair! My magnificent beard!
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" I freaked out, dropping May's mirror and comically crab walked away to a wall. "No way! No freaking way!" I cried out.
"Whoa, that's the kind of reaction I'd expect from May after she gets a bad hair day." Max commented in surprise.
"How is this possible?! My facial hair! My magnificent beard! Why oh why?!" I cried out in despair, as I touched my face all over.
Ash sweatdropped, "All that for facial hair?"
"You don't understand!" I snapped comically. "I groom and trim my beard with the utmost of care like I would with a baby!"
"I'm almost scared to ask, but… how old are you exactly?" Brock asked.
"Twenty-five…" I replied.
*COUGH! COUGH!*
I looked incredulously when Absol choked on her food, before staring at me gawking. What is she getting all surprised about?! And… oh my god, Pikachu is doing the meme face!
"Huh, I think I left Absol speechless." I commented with a snicker.
"YOU'RE TWENTY-FIVE?!" Ash and company cried out in shock, snapping me out of my current thoughts.
"Pretty much, yeah," I nodded in reply.
"That's amazing! You look so young!" May cried out with awe.
It's…not that big of a deal. I mean, I've gotten compliments from others saying that I looked pretty young for my age. I think that's just good genes, I guess.
"I appreciate the compliment," I said with a grin.
"Still, it's amazing how young you look." Brock said with awe.
"I get that a lot. Trust me." I told the kids as I rubbed my chin along with its lack of facial hair. I miss my beard…
"So, you're gonna travel by yourself?" Ash pondered after getting over his initial shock.
"Well, I won't really be by myself since I've got Absol with me but, who knows, maybe I'll have my own group of companions." I replied with a shrug.
"Well, guess we could hang out for the night before we go our separate ways." Brock suggested.
"I can agree to that." I nodded then looked down at my lone Pokémon. "What about you, Absol?"
Absol looked at me, her face still plastered with crumbs as she chewed her food. I don't think she heard me.
"Do you feel comfortable staying the night here with Ash and his friends?" I asked again, ignoring the urge to clean off her face in order to avoid another zap. Absol looked at Ash and his group before shrugging and going back to eating. "I'll take that as a yes…" I sweat dropped.
"She doesn't seem to care much, does she?" Max pointed out.
"You have no idea…"
The rest of the night was spent trading stories with each other and having ourselves a movie night. Hehe, Absol and Pikachu were fighting over a bowl of popcorn before I got in the way.
When I awoke in my Trainer given room, I felt a warm body lying on my torso. Looking down, it turned out to be Absol, cuddling against me while her head rested on my stomach (her horn thankfully away from unintentionally gutting me).
Damn, not gonna lie. This is a very wholesome moment. I don't wanna get out of bed because of it.
Unfortunately, my need to use the restroom overpowered my desire to bask in the cuteness of Absol sleeping on me.
"Absol, wake up." I whispered. But Absol didn't respond. "Absol, c'mon, I gotta use the bathroom."
Apparently, she didn't want her teddy bear to leave so she adjusted her body to plant her forepaws on my chest. She was still asleep too.
"Dammit, Absol, why?" I groaned. I really don't want to pee in my pants, let alone hold it into the point that kidney stones are gonna form.
No other choice. I gotta slip out of this without waking her up. So slowly but surely, I tried to slip out of the bed under the covers, but somehow Absol kept me in place. Okay, backup plan. I started with my legs, then slowly shift my waist and arms in a way that Absol stayed in place, inching slowly and slowly, away from her sleeping form. I'm almost there. Just a few more and-
*C-C-CRACK! C-C-CRACK!*
…
…
Why does the universe hate me?
*BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT!*
Oyayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayaya!
"Uh… morning?" Ash blinked, as he and the rest of the group saw me all charred up in soot and smoke while Absol's fur was shiny and sparkling.
"Morning." I wheezed, coughing up a fit.
"You, uh… You, okay?" May asked.
"Yep. Totally fine." I answered, wiping off the soot on my glasses with a clean rag.
"Rough night, huh?" Brock commented.
"Shut up…" I grumbled. And that sounded so wrong in so many ways too. I'm not a goddamn furry. Besides, Absol doesn't even have any boobs so-
Stop that train of thought. Immediately.
"Anyways, I just learned something new about Absol. She's a cuddle bug." I explained while giving my partner Pokémon the stink-eye. "So much so to the point she kept me from going to the bathroom."
"Awwww, that's cute!" May squealed.
"No it's not. I was about to pee in my pants and Absol wouldn't let me go." I spoke.
"Yikes, that's not really good." Max winced.
"It wasn't. It really wasn't." I remarked, removing the last of the soot from my body yet the smokey smell lingered for a bit. "Anyways, it's about nearly time for me to head out and-"
"NO, PONYTA!" A voice cried out from outside the center.
"What the heck?" I pondered.
"What's going on out there?" Ash inquired.
"Let's check it out." Brock suggested.
Everyone rushed outside and to our surprise, we were greeted by the sight of a girl cradling the form of a severely injured Ponyta. I never liked seeing kids cry and seeing this girl cry her eyes out for her Pokémon filled me with rage.
"Hmph, that's what happens when you have a weakling against a champion." A vindictive voice spoke, drawing my gaze to the speaker, who turned out to be a boy in his mid-teens. He had dark blue hair that had a sort of emo look to it, green eyes, olive skin, and a stocky frame. He wore a green shirt with a black leather jacket, blue jean pants, brown-black hiking boots, and a pair of dark, blue-rimmed aviator sunglasses.
And that's not the worst part. Standing hunched beside this kid is a fucking Tyrunt!
No wonder why Ponyta was beaten so soundly! And Tyrunt wasn't supposed to appear until Gen 6! What the hell?! Everything I knew about the Pokémon anime was thrown out the window at this point!
"What did you do?" I growled, clenching my fist.
The boy finally noticed me as well as the others. "Hm? I merely won a Pokémon Battle against this loser."
"That's not what that was!" The girl shouted, returning her Ponyta to its Poké Ball. "Your brute of a Pokémon kept hurting my Ponyta!"
"A brute? How rude. You challenged me, after all. You can't exactly blame my sweet Tyrunt for playing for keeps." The boy said in a nice yet haughty tone. He even had a smug grin on his face. The Tyrunt by his side gave a low growl at the girl.
"What Pokémon is that?" Max wondered.
"Tyrunt… an extinct Pokémon from the Kalos region." I growled.
"Wait, if it's extinct then why is this one here?" May wondered, obviously confused.
"Because I spent quite a lot of money getting a fossil of it cloned and reanimated." The boy stated. He crossed his arms and gave May a snide look. "Any decent Trainer would know about that."
"Hey, don't you look down on her! She's just starting out!" I snapped. I really wanted to curse the shit out of this guy, but I can't. I looked at Absol and she was growling menacingly as electricity crackled all over her body.
The boy noticed Absol too, raising a brow with interest. "An Absol? Those are quite rare even in Hoenn. Where'd you get it?" He asked.
"Nowhere you would know." I answered with a scowl.
"Really. Mind if I battle it with my Tyrunt?" The boy smirked. "Maybe you'll provide me better entertainment than that loser over there."
Yeah, I really want to punch this guy in the nuts.
"What do you think, Absol? Wanna put this brat in his place?" I asked my partner. Her hackles raised as she eyed Tyrunt with a dark glare. "I'll take that as a yes."
"You sure about this, Chris?" Brock asked me.
"I'm not letting someone like this talk trash to a friend or get away with brutally beating down a Pokémon." Came my statement.
"Kick his butt!" Max chimed, enthusiastic about me beating the guy that badmouthed May. "Nobody insults my sister, except me!"
Well, at least he's honest.
"Like that makes you any better…" May deadpanned at her brother. "But I share the sentiment of you kicking this guy's butt!"
"That makes three of us." I spoke. "Alright, hotshot. Let's see what you're really made of."
"Alright then. Follow me. You can bring the rest of the trash with you if you want." The boy snarked with a smirk on his face.
"Brock, make sure Ponyta and their Trainer get to the Pokemon Center first." I spoke. "If you can, help Nurse Joy in any way you can. I have a feeling she's gonna need all hands-on deck."
"Already on it." Brock nodded before he moved to assist the girl back to the Center, leaving me, Ash, May, Max, and the unknown Trainer by ourselves. We then followed this unknown Trainer to the Pokemon battlefield and… safe to say there were a lot of holes. At least I know Tyrunt is gonna use Dig a lot.
"Before we begin, may I know your name?" The boy asked me.
"Chris Holmes." I answered.
"Call me Adam. Prepare yourself." Adam said with a smirk as he placed his sunglasses on.
"Absol, go get 'em!" I said, and the Disaster Pokemon jumped in front of me to face Tyrunt.
"Tyrunt, flatten it to pieces." Adam commanded his Pokémon. The little yet dangerous T-Rex Pokemon growled before going in front of his Trainer.
"Start off with Shadow Ball!" I spoke. Absol opened her mouth and a ball of dark energy formed in front of her, before shooting it towards Tyrunt.
"Use Dig." Adam said swiftly. Tyrunt immediately dug into the ground, the Shadow Ball passing over its disappearing tail.
"Tch, Absol use Detect!" I spoke. Absol's eyes immediately glowed as it looked around, scanning where that little runt might be. Not even ten seconds later, Tyrunt came out of the ground from behind, but Absol was quick and jumped back to dodge the incoming attack. "Counter with Shadow Claw!"
Absol immediately followed that order as her claws glowed and lengthen to ethereal dark claws which she used to slash at Tyrunt.
"Use Bite." Adam said with a wicked smirk.
*CHOMP!*
"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaab!" My Absol was in sheer pain when Tyrunt practically bit on her paw so hard, Tyrunt might've smashed her bones. May could only cover her mouth in horror as she gasped in shock, and Max was no better. Ash was also in shock with Pikachu. "Aaaaab! Abbbbb! ABSOOOOOOOL!" She yelled as she suddenly generated electricity to shock the dinosaur, but to no avail, knowing that Tyrunt was part Rock-Type.
"Absol, calm down!" I shouted at my partner. The pain from the bite must be affecting her fight-or-flight instincts. "Break out with Shadow Ball right in Tyrunt's face!"
Absol had enough sense to listen to my order and immediately charged a Shadow Ball in her maw. She aimed it right at the dinosaur's face and fired.
*BOOOOOM!*
Smoke came from the explosion, causing the little T-Rex brat of a Pokemon to let go and skidding backwards, its claws digging into the ground to stop itself while Absol jumped back and landed near me, but had to raise her paw, because of the damage Tyrunt did.
"Bastard…" I growled. "That was unnecessary!"
"Battle is all about beating your opponent. Power means everything in this world. I simply used the most effective means in neutralizing my foe." Adam said with a smirk.
I heard Absol yelp when she tried to place her injured paw back on the ground and I noticed something I never thought possible in Pokémon.
*Drip*
Absol…was bleeding.
"Absol's paw…!" May gasped.
"You son of a bitch! Do you even realize what you just did?!" I shouted. Yeah, fuck this! I'm cursing the shit of this guy now!
"Yeah, and I'm not apologizing for it." Adam said arrogantly. Ohhhhhh, this motherfucker is pissing me off now!
"Alright, kid gloves are off now." I snarled. "Absol…" She looked at me. "Extremespeed combined with Thunder."
A white glow surrounded the Disaster Pokémon before she took off in the blink of an eye while she released electric energy from her body.
"Wait, she knows Volt Tackle?!" Max gawked.
"Volt Tackle?" Ash asked, confused. "What's that?"
"It's a really powerful Electric-Type attack that deals massive damage, but it hits the user with recoil." Max explained.
"But he didn't call out Volt Tackle. Could it be an impromptu move?" Ash pondered.
"W-Well whatever it is, I just hope Absol can do it." May said.
Absol ran at full electric speed towards Tyrunt and this time, I had the hidden pleasure of seeing Adam have a slightly worried expression on his face. She hit Tyrunt full on before turning on her good heels and attacked again. This kept going for a good full two minutes. I could tell that Absol was just running on adrenaline at this point.
"Absol, finish it with Hyper Beam!" I shouted with conviction.
Absol jumped up and opened her mouth, firing a devastating beam attack at Tyrunt.
But then, but then came this…
"Use Protect," Adam smirked.
THIS MOTHERFUCKER!
Tyrunt's eyes glowed blue and a blue barrier formed in front of him, completely stopping the Hyper Beam in its tracks!
"No way!" Max gawked.
"That's not good! A Pokémon that uses Hyper Beam is unable to move for a while!" Ash gritted his teeth.
"Now Tyrunt, Dig then use Bite and this time, make sure you crush 'em. For good…"
Tyrunt followed Adam's order, digging into the ground as a visible trail of dirt approached Absol.
I…I don't know what to do. I don't know how to help Absol…
"Sol."
Huh?
I heard her voice. When I stared at my partner, those scarlet red eyes of hers stared right back at me. For some reason, I could…sense what she was trying to say to me.
In that case…
"Absol, use Thunder on yourself!" I shouted.
Without question, she obeyed my command and her body instinctively produced electricity. Then with a mighty cry, a bolt of thunder struck her body.
"Now use Psycho Cut!" I added.
Her horn glowed with pinkish-red psychic energy, forming into a hardened blade. However, the lightning that was still present began to flow and curve around it. The lightning turned the pinkish-red glow into a bright cyan blue. The edge grew bigger, sharper, and produced a sound like chirping birds.
Is it possible…? Did I just create-
"USE LIGHTNING BLADE!" I roared.
Absol roared as well. Just as Tyrunt busted out of the ground from using Dig and reached out to seize her in its jaws, my partner slashed her electric-powered blade down upon its head. The small dinosaur had no way of stopping the attack from hitting him and a cloud of dust engulfed the battlefield.
"Ah, Tyrunt!" Adam cried out in shock.
"Ugh, I can't see." Ash gritted his teeth, covering his face from the dust cloud.
"Where's Absol?" May pondered, shielding her eyes.
Even I was concerned. Did Absol manage to land the hit? Did Tyrunt get through?
The dust began to settle, and it allowed me as well as my opponent a view of our Pokémon. Absol was panting heavily, her fur matted with the dust. Tyrunt on the other hand…was laying on the ground with its eyes replaced with swirls.
"We won…" I said softly before a big smile started to appear on my face. "WE WON!"
"Absol!" The Disaster Pokémon cheered.
"You were awesome, Absol! Great work!" I told my partner while petting her head.
*BZZZT!*
"Owowow!" I cried out, recoiling my hand and shaking it. Okay, her fur still has electricity.
"What was that move?" Max wondered. "I haven't seen anything like it!"
"A combination. It came to me out of instinct. I call it Lightning Blade." I said, puffing out my chest with pride.
"That's… creative." Brock commented.
"I'll take that as a compliment." I grinned, as I looked over at Adam who had promptly returned Tyrunt to his Poké Ball.
"Useless…" Adam said coldly.
"Calling your Pokémon useless proves how much of a sore loser you are." I shot back. "Maybe instead of battling with dirty tactics, you actually show respect and take your opponent seriously."
The teen scoffed, "Respect? Power is the real thing when it comes to battles. You may have won this round but the next time we meet, I'll crush you."
"Better hope we don't." I glared at Adam while Absol growled at him.
"Che…" Adam scoffed, before turning around to leave.
"What is that guy's problem?" May pouted.
"Nothing but a power-craving jerk. I've seen their type one too many times. All bark and no bite. Well… that being the exception…" I frowned, as I stared at Absol's bloodied paw. "You okay, girl?"
Absol licked her injured paw, wincing from the pain before she looked at me. "Sol…"
"It's alright. Nurse Joy should look that over. Just means we'll be spending another night at the Pokémon Center." I told her, sighing in annoyance. I then looked at Ash and the others. "You guys should go on without me. I'll look after Absol here for another night."
"You sure?" Ash asked.
I nodded, "Yeah, I don't wanna keep you guys from your journey. Brock should be back by now." I told him. "You still have to get your first Gym Badge, right?"
"Yeah."
"Then go on ahead. I'll be fine. And Max, if Brock starts getting all flirty with the ladies, drag him away by the ear, will ya?"
Max snickered mischievously, "Gladly."
"It was really nice to meet you both." May told me and Absol.
"Same to you and good luck on your journey." I smiled.
It wasn't long before Brock returned from the Pokémon Center, telling us that the Ponyta was being treated with the utmost care and would recover soon. After that, the kids left on the path towards Rustboro City… At least, I think they're going the right way.
Meanwhile, Absol and I stayed at the Pokémon Center. Nurse Joy had informed me that Absol had received a broken paw after Tyrunt bit her. But with the technology they had, my partner managed to make a quick recovery. Though by the time her injury was healed, night had already rolled on by. So we had to spend the night in the Center.
"Man, talk about a weird day." I said, coming out of the bathroom of my Trainer-offered bedroom while drying my hair.
"Sol." Absol said from atop the bed.
"Yeah, don't I know it…" I sighed, as I laid on the other bed. I stared at the ceiling as I thought about what happened today. That guy, Adam… I didn't really like his attitude. I remember Paul from the Diamond and Pearl arc but even he wasn't that terrible of a person. The way that kid used his Tyrunt to try and seriously hurt Absol… I couldn't stand it.
I felt movement on my bed and when I looked down, I noticed Absol laying beside me. She had her head on my stomach but she didn't seem ready to sleep yet.
"What's up, girl? Feeling alright?" I asked my partner.
"Sol, Absol…" She said softly, nuzzling my stomach.
Even though I couldn't understand what she was saying, I could tell that she was mentioning the climax of our battle with Adam. She wanted me to trust her and I gave her that trust. She overcame a situation that surely would've caused more than just a broken paw.
"I'm really proud of you, Absol. I hope you know that." I said with a smile as I slowly ran my fingers through her fur.
"Sol…"
"No, I really mean it. That Lightning Blade you pulled off was awesome. I don't know how you could do that, but you did." I said with a chuckle.
Absol blushed from the praise. Heh, such a tsundere. "Absol…" She mumbled.
"Come on, you know what you did was awesome." I smiled. "And during our journey, we'll come up with more combo attacks. We'll be unstoppable!"
"Sol… Ab… sol… zzzzzzzzzzz… zzzzzzzzzzz…"
Huh… already asleep.
Well, guess I can't fault her for that. Besides, we still have a big day ahead of us. Our own journey to Rustboro City will be pretty busy…
…and I still need to catch a Pokémon.
