Today's story is written by Irene softxsurrera. Smut warning for the ending. Hope you all enjoy!

Piercing through the eerie quietness of the night was the sound of Andy's alarm, set to the first salsa song she danced to with Robert at the start of their relationship. Andy quickly turned off her phone smiling at the date on her calendar. Quickly checking that all their reservations were in order she couldn't help the excitement bubbling inside her. After months of planning it was finally time to put her plans into action. Now she just had to get Robert up so they could get their day going.

Robert would be up in an instant at the sound of the klaxon but at home he slept like a log. It was nice on mornings when she had to leave early as she never worried about accidentally waking him up but it wasn't ideal on days like today. She started slowly, rubbing her hand up and down his arm while whispering in his ear that it was time to get up. When that didn't work she smirked, knowing exactly what always did the trick.

Pulling down the comforter she began peppering his naked chest with soft kisses, moving her way up to his neck. However, before she could reach his face, Robert opened his eyes and pulled her up the rest of the way, deepening the kiss. When they broke apart Robert donned a slight smirk, his charcoal black eyes shimmering with a combination of mirth and confusion.

"Not that I don't like what you're doing, because I really do, but you do know it's the middle of the night, right?" Robert queried with a chuckle.

"I know, but I needed to get you up quickly. Not my fault sex is the only thing that seems to wake you up from the dead." Andy made her way out of the bed, flicking on the bedroom light.

"What can I say, I'm a simple man with simple needs." Andy rolled her eyes at Robert and moved to start making her side of the bed. Peeking a look at his bedside clock, Robert took notice that it was only just approaching 3 in the morning, much too early for either of them to be up for their next shift.

"Andy, what's going on?" Robert asked, an edge of anxiousness creeping into his voice.

"Just relax, you worry too much you know." Robert couldn't help it. He was a perennial worrier, especially when it came to Andy. After what happened with Jeremy he always wanted to be sure she was safe. Since getting back together he made sure to check in with her every few hours either via text or a quick phone call if they worked separate shifts. After spending so much time apart he never wanted her to feel like she didn't have him in her corner.

"I've planned a short trip for us," Andy continued as she moved around the room in a hurry, placing things on her nightstand into her purse. "If you don't get up now we'll never make it to the airport on time."

Now Robert was even more confused. They were both on shift tomorrow and Christmas Day. When they received their schedules for December, Robert had been disheartened to see that they would be working the entire Christmas holiday. As it was their first Christmas together since agreeing to start dating again he had wanted to spend it doing something fun but he took his duty as a firefighter very seriously. People still needed help on the holidays so he resigned himself to the shifts, the only consolation being that he would still get to spend the holiday with Andy, even if it was at the station instead of in the warmth of their home.

"Oh that! Don't worry about it. I talked to the chief and got people to cover our shifts for the next five days."

Not waiting to see his reaction Andy dashed out the room, returning a few moments later with two packed suitcases and their passports in hand. "Once you get dressed, pack your backpack. The car to take us to the airport will be here in 20 minutes and we are not going to be late for the driver."

Robert couldn't help but laugh at that. If there was one thing Andy was known for it was running late. To this day he still wondered how she managed to get anywhere on time before they started dating.

Andy scowled back at him unamused. "Laugh all you want but you'll regret it if we're late." Robert knew Andy wasn't joking when she said that. She could hold a grudge like no other and would make his life hell if he messed up whatever she had planned for him.

"Will you at least tell me where we're going?"

Andy flashed Robert a smile but shook her head, enjoying the disbelief that crossed his face. "You'll just have to see for yourself when we get to the airport."

Robert leaned back onto the bed clearly annoyed. He didn't mind surprises all that much, unlike Andy, but suspected she was being deliberately vague with him as some sort of payback for all the surprises he'd pulled on her. He was sure she still hadn't forgiven him for the surprise party he had organized last month for her birthday.

He grumbled but got up and took a quick cold shower to wake himself up and quell his growing erection. Just having Andy kiss him was enough to get his body rearing but he knew they couldn't do anything at the moment.

Judging from Andy's outfit choice; a pair of black sweatpants and a thick burgundy sweater they were in for a long flight so he'd want to be as comfy and warm as possible. Following her lead he put on his own pair of sweatpants, pairing them with a dark blue sweatshirt and his Nike Jordans.

The car arrived right on time and the two made their way to the airport. It was a short drive to SeaTac, there being no traffic so early in the morning. Checking their bags was also super easy with the limited amount of flights scheduled at the time.

After getting their boarding passes Robert looked down at the ticket in shock. They were headed to Iceland. At first he had suspected they would be going somewhere tropical for their holiday. Andy hated winter. If she wasn't so attached to Seattle he was sure she would have moved down south ages ago. It was always a chore to get her out the house in winter as she much preferred to stay indoors and relax near the fireplace.

Andy looked at Robert with knowing eyes, anticipating his exact thoughts and the question on the tip of his tongue.

"You love winter and Iceland has been on your bucket list for forever." Since he was a little boy he always felt most alive in winter, the biting cold air invigorating him as he skied down the slopes with his parents or went ice skating with his friends at their local rink. He looked forward to snow days and hours spent tumbling in a frosty wonderland. As an adult the wonder of the winter season lived on.

The only thing he really hated about winter was always having to wear a beanie since losing his hair so he wouldn't get sick but it was a small price to pay to get to enjoy what he felt was the most magical time of the year.

While this was all very true, Robert suspected more was going on so he waited for Andy to continue.

"I planned this trip because I wanted to show how much I love you and how thankful I am that you gave us a second chance." Andy felt herself start to tear up. "I've caused you so much pain in the past and I just wanted to make it up to you even if it's not possible to take away all the damage I did to us." By now a small trickle of tears flowed down Andy's face as she let her emotions take over.

December in particular was hard for Andy as it served as a reminder of the worst day of her life. The day she took the divorce papers out the freezer and signed them, signing away her happiness and the only man who had ever made her happy. At the time it had felt like the only decision she could make, a way of putting them both out of the miserable circles they were running in. In hindsight she knew it

Things were tense between them after her return to 19 following the dismissal of her trial. Spending so much time together after barely speaking for nearly two years was rough to say the least but they muddled through it eventually coming out the other side as friends. Therapy had helped her realize that most of her anger at Robert was the result of unresolved trauma and she owed it to herself to get better. It was hard. The hardest thing she had ever done in her life but after a few months she felt happier and more at ease than she had in a very long time.

She had also realized that her love for Robert never went away and instead had simply been repressed. Taking a chance she confronted Robert and put her cards on the table, asking if he wanted to give them one last chance to get it right. He had refused at first and even though she had expected that might happen it still stung. But she reminded herself that Robert had felt exactly like she did many many times over the course of their train wreck marriage. She refused to quit on them like she had in the past so she held her ground. For once in her life she didn't run away and it paid off.

Her persistence won him over and Robert agreed to start over. They went on a few dates and started seeing a counselor. It was slow going as they both wanted to be sure they didn't fall back into the self destructive patterns that had steamrolled their lives before. Within six months they officially decided to get back together and three months after that Andy moved back into Robert's place.

Robert used his hand to wipe Andy's tears away. "Thank you Andy. It means a lot to me for you to say that and to plan this trip for me but you don't need to keep apologizing. It's water under the bridge. Ancient history. I was just as much responsible for the end of our marriage. That time in our lives is behind us. We're together now and thriving. Let's focus on that."

Smiling back at Robert, Andy wrapped her arms around him and they walked to their gate. Andy filled Robert in on all the station gossip including Travis' new boyfriend which Robert got a kick out of. He was definitely more in the know now as a lieutenant as he'd finally gained the trust of the team but they still saw him somewhat as their boss and tended to keep juicy gossip discussions for when he wasn't in the room. Lucky for him it never took much to get Andy talking so he had no issues keeping up to date.

At 6am they boarded their flight. Robert made his way to walk down the aisle towards the economy section but was stopped by Andy leading him in the opposite direction.

"First class?"

"Remember the owner of the bakery that we helped save a few months ago?" Robert thought back to the call they had taken in early June after a brake malfunction caused a truck to run right into the store. Andy had saved the owner from dying right before the building's roof collapsed. "Well funnily enough the owner's daughter works for Icelandair and she was so grateful for what we did to help her father that she gave me a great discount on the flight tickets. So much so I managed to get us first class tickets."

It was at moments like this that Robert loved their job even more.

The flight was smooth. Most of it spent catching up on sleep, Andy snuggled right next to Robert, and binge watching the latest movies. Before they knew it they were touching down in Reykjavik, greeted by an icy landscape. With the time difference it was already night time in Iceland so they made their way straight to the hotel, marveling at the starlight sky and Christmas decorations adorning every street. After unpacking their belongings they pondered what to do next.

"I know it's late and freezing outside but how about we go on a walk and check out the city center? I'm sure we could find something to eat too or maybe even…" Andy started to ramble but Robert rejected her offerings.

"No," was all he said while moving through the motions of untying his shoes.

"No?"

"You planned this trip is for me right?" Andy nodded back, noticing how Robert had moved imperceptibly closer to her. They stood mere inches apart, their overheating bodies from the thick coats they wore burning together. "Well, I haven't gotten everything I wanted yet." She could feel his hot sultry breath brushing across her face. He wanted her.

With delicacy Robert lifted Andy into his arms placing her on the edge of the bed. He began to undress her, removing each article of clothing with tender touches. It was agonizingly slow but Robert was always one for drawn out foreplay. He was teasing her, breaking down all of her defenses.

When they were both naked Robert increased his speed kissing her long and hard. Andy couldn't help the hoarse moans that escaped from her lips as Robert pushed harder. He lightly bit her shoulder sending ripples of tingling energy straight to her heart before lowering himself more.

She wasn't normally one to relinquish power to anyone but she loved when Robert took control. His commanding presence had been what drew her to him the very first time they met. He knew all her pleasure points like the back of his hand and never failed to give her an effervescent high. So she gave herself to him.

The bed creaked underneath them and for a moment Andy wondered if it could sustain their thrashing. She prayed it would because she couldn't get enough of him. She was tired and sore but none of that mattered. She didn't want to sleep. She just wanted his weight on top of her.

She let him stroke his hands across her entire figure, droplets of his sweat falling like the pitter patter of rain onto her skin. He spun her hips towards him leaving her dizzy in anticipation. Closing her eyes she felt the familiar twinge of pain consume her. A moment later it turned into spasms of sweetness and opening her eyes she saw Robert looking down at her with pure adoration. All other thoughts slipped from Andy's mind as she found herself lost in the beauty of the love of her life.

Robert released and braced his hands against the wall. He brushed his hands through her hair allowing her the chance to catch her breath. The reprieve was only for a moment as he hooked his knees outside her legs and drove himself deeper.

If this was how Robert thanked her for planning a vacation she would be sure to make them take a trip every month.

When they separated Robert flashed her the brightest of grins, a look he reserved solely for her eyes. He pulled her into his arms and she leaned against his back as they laid on their sides.

"Do you still want to take that walk?" He breathed teasingly into the crook of her neck.

Staring out the window at the howling wind Andy felt content to stay indoors basking in the afterglow. "No."

Next part coming December 24th…
