Good News From Jessa
"Kari! You're back!" Carole, Miranda, and Lisa exclaimed.
"Yes, and after that garbage the hospital called food," Hikari said. "I can't wait for some of your delicious meals, Carole!"
"I'll do my best." Carole said to Hikari.
"I have more good news," Jessa announced. "thanks to Hikaru, I have expelled Lorna from Camp Rosewood."
"Yes," Lisa cheered. "Doe Cabin is safe from bullying!"
Hikari looked out the window.
"Kari? Are you all right?" Miranda asked.
Hikari didn't answer Miranda because she began to have a memory.
Within her memory, Melanie, Jessie, and Beverly passed by the riding ring on their way to the outdoor arts and crafts area to find Hikari setting up a jump.
"I reckon we can do this, Cherokee, my handsome boy." Melanie heard Hikari say to her horse.
Bryce, Jason, Carole, Beverly, Lisa, and Miranda were also on horseback when they saw what was going on.
"What is Kari doing?" Miranda asked, dismounting Lancelot.
"Let's go and find out." Jason said as he, Bryce, Beverly, Lisa, Carole, and Lisa dismounted their horses.
"I don't know about this, Jason," Lisa said. "it's not right to stick one's nose in another's business."
"Oh come now, Lisa," Bryce said. "don't be such a wimp."
Lisa saw the rest of her friends approaching Hikari who was mounting Cherokee.
"Here we go again." Lisa sighed, trudging to join the group.
"What are you doing, Kari?" Bryce asked.
"Hikaru's and my birthday is coming up, so the best gift I can give him is my first place ribbon in the West Ridge horse show for Camp Rosewood."
"But, Kari," Bryce reminded. "the jumps at that show are to high for any of us to make!"
"How will I learn if I don't take risks?" Hikari asked.
"That would be way too big a risk!" Miranda exclaimed.
Lorna came out of the stable on Lightning's back.
"Personally, I think if Hikari wants to take that jump," Lorna said. "then we should just let her."
"Shove off, Lorna!" Miranda snapped.
Lorna turned on her heel and left.
At that moment, Jessa and Ken were stopping by the riding arena.
"What's Kari up to?" Jessa asked.
"You ready, Cherokee?" Hikari asked.
Cherokee nickered in agreement with his rider.
Hikari started slow, then, she picked up her speed.
When Cherokee came to the jump, he threw Hikari off his back.
"Hika!" Ken called out.
"Kari!" Bryce, Jason, Carole, Beverly, Lisa, and Miranda exclaimed.
"Oh no!" Jessa exclaimed.
Jessa, Ken, Bryce, Jason, Carole, Beverly, Lisa, and Miranda all raced to Hikari's location in a frantic manner.
Ken felt Hikari for a pulse.
"Somebody! Call for an ambulance!" Ken ordered.
Bryce pulled out his cellphone, "I'm all over it!" he exclaimed.
While Bryce was on his phone, Jessa handed the Camp Rosewood master key to Lisa.
"Lisa, go to Fort MacArthur and bring Hikaru back with you," Jessa said. "this is an emergency!"
Lisa took the key from Jessa, "I'm on my way!" she exclaimed.
Lisa took off like a shot toward the boathouse.
In her hospital room, all Hikari could do was lie in bed helplessly.
"Why did she do it? Why did Kari attempt that jump when she knew she was not ready?" Hikaru asked.
Miranda looked at Hikaru's serious expression.
"Hikari wanted to win first place in the West Ridge horse show," Miranda explained to Hikaru. "and she wanted to give her ribbon to you as a birthday gift."
Hikaru looked at his older twin sister, "The only thing I want, is for you to be well on our birthday." he said to Hikari.
Hikari reached up and squeezed her brother's hand.
"What was... that?" Carole asked.
"No idea." Lisa answered.
Hikari opened her eyes, "Kon'nichiwa... min'na." she said.
Hikari then came out of her memory.
Hikari came out of her memory.
"Are you all right, Hikari?" Miranda asked again.
"I'm fine, Miranda." Hikari said.
Over at Fort MacArthur, Hikaru was feeling miserable as he lay on his cot.
Phil was training for the archery tournament, when Colonel Hanson walked up.
"You are getting better every day." Mitchell said to Phil.
"Thank you, Colonel Hanson." Phil said.
Phil made another perfect bull's eye.
"Why not take a short break?" Mitchell asked Phil.
"But Sir..." Phil began.
"I have a special assignment for you," Mitchell said to Phil. "it's in the mess hall."
"A special assignment," Phil asked Mitchell. "what is it?"
"You are to take Hikaru's lunch to him, tomato soup and orange juice." Mitchell answered Phil.
"On my way!" Phil exclaimed gleefully.
