Chapter Nine – Romance in the Sky

The Stamford Diner, Stamford, Connecticut

Stephanie McMahon Hardy looked over at the diner entrance as her daughter Beth arrived to have lunch with her parents who had ordered her favourite, the Stamford Brown Rice Bowl. Jeff Hardy was trying out the Cannoli French toast while Stephanie was going to give the Texas Avacado Toast a try.

"Hey guys, what brings you to Stamford?" Beth asked her parents after greeting them both with a kiss. "You're not keeping tabs on me are you?"

"We just wanted to check out your favourite spot and see how it compares to your father's cooking," Stephanie said and Jeff nodded impressed with the cannoli.

"This is good stuff, not Jeff Hardy good but good enough to make me come back here," Jeff said and Beth shook her head.

"This is a great spot Dad but you're right, you're cooking is way better. So what happened? Did you finally get through competing with Roman Reigns or are you here to see me for a whole other reason?" Beth Hardy asked as her food arrived.

"That looks good," Stephanie said and she looked over at Jeff, "when did the food in Stamford get so good?"

"Things have been getting better around here, I think it might have something to do with the PR campaign I did encouraging people to come back to Connecticut after the whole darkness falls garbage that Bray Wyatt tried to pull last month," Beth said and Stephanie's face turned serious at the mention of Bray Wyatt.

"There is another reason your father and I came to see you Elizabeth," Stephanie said and she smiled at her daughter proudly, "firstly, you look amazing this morning. Those pearls look beautiful on you,"

"You would say that Mom, they're yours. But thanks," Beth said biting into her food as her mother continued to beam at her third daughter.

"You know why I named you Elizabeth?" Stephanie asked her daughter and Beth shook her head at her Mom. "Because I wanted you to conduct yourself like a Queen, like royalty, like HM Queen Elizabeth II. I also named you after my favourite wrestling valet of all time, Miss Elizabeth. She carried herself with such grace and dignity and she made the Macho Man look even better, if that was even possible,"

"Why are you telling me all this Mom?" Beth asked intrigued and Jeff and Steph exchanged glances.

"Being a monarch and a valet have something in common, both roles are highly prolific, both Elizabeths were constantly in the public's eye. As a McMahon and a Hardy, people are going to have certain expectations of you, so you can't do anything that would undermine the public's confidence in the WWE. Like say, getting involved with your Uncle Shane and your cousin Sasha," Stephanie said and Beth stopped chewing.

"What do you know about that Mom?" Beth asked sternly. "You're supposed to be chilling with Dad in Pensacola, I'm running the company now. What I do with Uncle Shane and the Boss has nothing to do with you,"

Stephanie pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed, "Why did you Transcend the Hurt Business to the Balors home in Ireland?" she asked Beth who got hot and pushed her plate back.

"I'm not talking to you about this, go back to Florida and stay out of this Mom," Beth said firmly and Jeff shot her a look of disapproval.

"You sit down and answer your mother's question!" Jeff said firmly and Beth exhaled loudly before crashing back down onto the red booth causing her plate to rattle on the table.

"Like I said, it has nothing to do with you. But you can both rest assured that I have everything under control," Beth said firmly but politely as Stephanie shook her head with worry, "You know what else I have in common with Queen Elizabeth and Miss Elizabeth, Mom?"

"Great style and a commanding presence when you walk into a room?" Stephanie replied and Elizabeth smiled at her Mom lovingly.

"Not just that, I have a knack for being in the right place at the right time. In this business timing is everything, so I suggest you both make the best of your time away and let me do what our family does best and that's win at everything we do," Beth said.

"I whole-heartedly agree with you on that Elizabeth but you aren't fighting an inferior wrestling company or trying to close a deal in another country. You're going up against another McMahon, another person with just as much passion and determination, if not more and Shane has an opening now that Seth and Sasha Rollins are on his side," Stephanie said and Beth Hardy frowned at her mother. "Why did you get involved in this war? Your marching orders have been clear from the beginning and that was to stay out of all this. The God Girls can handle my brother, you cannot. Why don't you let them get on with it? They have been commissioned by God to work with the DX family,"

"So have I Mom," Beth replied.

"No you haven't!" Stephanie said, "your authority is limited to running the WWE, this battle is way above your paygrade!"

"Well maybe I need a raise," Beth Hardy replied.

"Elizabeth, are you working with my brother and Sasha against DX? You had a crush on Seth earlier this year, is something going on that your father and I need to know about?" Stephanie said and Beth Hardy fell silent.

"I'm leaving now, thanks for lunch it was nice catching up," Beth said and she turned and left while buttoning her tailor made suit jacket with the bright purple inlay, leaving her parents with more concern than they had coming to Stamford.

They both paid the bill and headed out of the Stamford Diner to follow Elizabeth and keep on at her about her actions. As they walked to the sidewalk they saw Beth get into a taxi cab and leave and pulling up just beside them was Shane McMahon and Sasha Banks.

"Hey sis, hope you haven't already eaten. We've got a lot to talk about," Shane said coming over to Steph and Jeff, who were starting to think maybe Beth was right. They were better off staying off the grid because things were about to get ugly and there were no God Girls or Seth Rollins in sight.

WWE HQ

Beth Hardy flung her suit jacket over the back of her exec chair as her assistant knocked on her door.

"I have a guest for you Miss Hardy," her assistant said, "well, there's a few of them but they're all here to meet you together,"

"Send them in," Beth said and she turned to see Finn Balor, AJ Styles, Kenny Omega and the Hurt Business looking back at her with big smiles on their faces. "Hi there, please have a seat. We have a lot to discuss,"

As the top wrestlers sat around the big desk in the executive suite, Beth Hardy looked at the photo of Becky Lynch that she had on her desk and she turned it face down, symbolising that she was about to go behind the Man's back with her man, Finn Balor.

"I'm so glad we finally get to work together Miss Hardy, we're all very excited about what you have in mind for us going forward. This angle with the Hurt Business and the former Bullet Club sounds like money," Finn Balor said.

"Oh it is and you'll all be making a lot of money after we get done with this angle," Beth Hardy said. "It might seem pretty cruel at first but I'm sure we'll get the right response,"

As the competitors went over the brief that Beth Hardy sent over to them, Mr and Mrs Balor went over to the Sandbox to pay Finn's wife Becky Lynch a visit. They hoped to talk some sense into her and get her to go on her honeymoon and not postpone it any longer. With Finn being seen without her, it might send the public the wrong message about the relationship. That was exactly what Shane and Sasha were banking on, they needed Becky Lynch to freak out when she found out what was going on at WWE HQ. It could be the only way to get the God Girls out of the Sandbox and into jail where Sasha believed they truly belonged.
