Chapter 16 - Snow White's Funeral

Back at J.R.'s office, we find Duck crying over Snow White's apparent death while the studio executive encourages him to continue.

Duck: (crying bitterly).

J.R.: Stone, get a hold of yourself man. Weeping towel?

Duck: Thank you.

He grabs the weeping towel and blows on it and then threw it in the trash can.

J.R.: Got it out of your system?

Duck: Eeyup.

J.R.: Well then. What happen next?

Duck: Oh yes, yes. Ahem, page 65. The peanuts mourn for Snow White for three days and three nights. On the third night, with heavy hearts, they must bury their friend. However, so beautiful even in death, Charlie Brown and his friends couldn't have heart to bury her in the ground. So they fashioned a coffin of clear glass and carved her name in gold and her title that reads "Snow White, Daughter of King Gordon the Great" and decided to give her a proper send off.

Fade into the story, we see Schroeder playing a gospel tune. Cut to the others surrounding the glass coffin, Linus start the funeral service.

Linus: We are gathered together to pay tribute and say goodbye to a very close friend. Perhaps, I could persuade some of you to say a few words. Lucy?

(Lucy stand by the coffin and start to say her few kind words)

Lucy: With the heavy heart, I stand before you as we all gather to say our last goodbyes to Snow White. Even though I never knew her all my life but after starting to get to know her, I felt like I didn't lost a friend, I lost a part me. Farewell, Snow White (sobbing)

Linus: Next, I would like to call on Schroeder.

(Schroeder approach the coffin)

Schroeder: Goodbye, Snow White. And thank you for the many great times, we have had together.

Linus: And now a word from Charlie Brown.

(Charlie Brown approach Snow White's coffin and was too heartbroken to say anything)

Snoopy: (sniffing) (crying) Awhooo!

Charlie Brown: Waaaahh!

(Snoopy crying)

Linus: Goodbye.

Peppermint Patty: Until the next life.

Lucy: (weeping) Goodbye, Snow White. I'm going to miss you.

Outside the cottage, we see Woodstock and his friends also crying for Snow White's apparent death as they pay their final respects for the princess. As the gang sadly carries the coffin towards the mountain so everyone can see Snow White's body, Sally sang a hymn as the others play chorus.

Sally (singing):

Tempted and tried, we're oft made to wonder

Why it should be thus all the day long,

While there are others living about us,

Never molested, though in the wrong.

Chorus:

Farther along we'll know all about it,

Farther along we'll understand why;

Cheer up my brother, live in the sunshine,

We'll understand it all by and by.

Sally:

When death has come and taken our loved ones,

It leaves our home so lonely and drear,

Then do we wonder why others prosper

Living so wicked year after year.

Chorus:

Farther along we'll know all about it,

Farther along we'll understand why;

Cheer up my brother, live in the sunshine,

We'll understand it all by and by.

Sally:

Faithful til death, said our loving Master

A few more days to labor and wait,

Toils of the road will then seem as nothing

As we sweet through the beautiful gate.

Chorus:

Farther along we'll know all about it,

Farther along we'll understand why;

Cheer up my brother, live in the sunshine,

We'll understand it all by and by.

Sally:

When we see Jesus, coming in glory,

When He comes from His home in the sky,

Then we shall meet Him in that bright mansion,

We'll understand it all by and by.

Chorus:

Farther along we'll know all about it,

Farther along we'll understand why;

Cheer up my brother, live in the sunshine,

We'll understand it all by and by.

The hymn ends as the others tearfully place the coffin at the top of the mountain as each of them place flowers around it. Charlie Brown and Sally lift the coffin and Lucy place flowers in Snow White's hand.

She sadly glances as Snow White for a moment before stepping back and kneel before it with the others.
