20th December prompt from goodpenmanship: den of thieves
a drabble
Thieves
Just a "den of young thieves";
For the city believes
That the waifs on the streets are no good.
They're condemned by the state,
To a miserable fate;
They're rejected and misunderstood.
Forsaken, forlorn,
Since the day they were born;
No mothers, no fathers; no kin.
Most would give a wide berth
To these deemed of scant worth;
For they see what's without, not within.

One or two can see more
Than the other folk saw;
See the grit and the nerve and the skill.
Thus…bleak futures are changed,
Once the terms are arranged;
With Irregular tasks to fulfil.
