Hey everyone, welcome to day 15 of the Hart of Dixie countdown to Christmas!
Enjoy!
"Zoe?" Asked a shocked Wade behind her. He hadn't been looking forward to the remaining time of winter break without having someone to spend the time with. Spending the day with his family hadn't pulled him out of his funk. His parents tried to get him to talk about what was wrong, but the only response he gave was a shrug.
"Hey, Wade," smiled Zoe, turning to look at him. He didn't miss the flush to her cheeks. It brought a smirk to his face recalling the events they shared earlier in the day.
"You're still here?" He questioned, a relieved smirk on his face, that he hadn't missed her. He thought he had missed her when he was handed back the gift he had bought her. No one would tell him if she and her mom checked out.
"Zoe, dear, why don't you and your mom join us," Jackie said, walking up behind him. He would take it since he can't escape family night, and he wants to question Zoe on what happened since this morning. How he was going to get those answers he wasn't sure since they'd be sharing a table.
"She won't take no for an answer," his dad shared, telling everyone just how stubborn his mom can be when she wants something. That's an understatement.
"Okay." He heard Zoe's mom agree. And as sucky as having their parents and Jesse with them, he couldn't find that the night would suck as much as he thought before, not when Zoe is still here.
He stayed back with Zoe watching his parents and Zoe's mom, walk into the restaurant, Jesse off to the side flirting with a waitress. He wanted to take as long as he could in making it to their table where their parents were more than likely going to be keeping an eye on them.
"What happened?" Wade asked, deciding they should slowly make their way to the table.
"I can't be sure, but I think my mom was taken over by aliens," Zoe joked, with a slight tone of seriousness. Wade gave her a 'wth' look, making her laugh. "What it's true!" Zoe laughed. "Honestly, I'm not really sure, other than wanting to enjoy what few days we have left here before she goes work crazy again," she explained, as they got to the table. "I'm not going to complain, because for once she's acting as my mom and I get to stay," she quietly told Wade, not wanting their parents to overhear their conversation.
"I'm happy about that too," Wade smiled, taking his seat next to Zoe. Leaving Jesse to sit on the other side of the table if he ever decides to detach himself from the waitress. "Now we can show up at the dance tomorrow night," Wade remarked, making sure no one overheard them.
"Is this your way of asking me to the dance?" Zoe questioned, raising an eyebrow, as she looked over the menu.
"I guess," Wade said, picking his menu up.
"Real smooth little brother," Jesse sniggered, joining them at the table.
"About time you joined us, did your little vacation side piece turn you down?" Wade sneered.
"Not my fault I've got game," Jesse smirked, flipping through the menu. "And FYI she didn't turn me down, she agreed to go to the dance tomorrow night because I'm smooth like that," he teased Wade. "Tag along and you'll learn everything you need to know," Jesse stated with a smirk firmly in place.
"I'd rather shove a fork in my eyeballs," Wade deadpanned. "I don't want to be a man whore like you," Wade retorted, putting his menu down. He already knew what he wanted before they sat down. A burger with the works, barbeque sauce instead of ketchup.
"Boys," Earl warned, giving them the father look to behave and watch what they say in front of Zoe.
"I'm sorry you had to hear that," he softly told Zoe, leaning closer to her. "Sadly, it's the truth," he shared, shrugging.
"I'm having fun, are you?" Jesse questioned, looking between his brother and Zoe.
Wade smiled, looking at Zoe to let her know that yes he's having fun. If not for Zoe, he's positive his time on vacation would have been dull, and he would have hated it. He doubts he would ever get the hang of snowboarding. The snow isn't for him. Being in Denver over winter break assured him of what he already knew. The one thing he didn't know was how much a crying girl his age was going to change his vacation for the better.
"I'm having a blast," Wade smiled, looking at his brother. "Without all the risks you're taking," he quipped, ready to ignore his brother for the rest of the night. Once dinner is over and he has filled in the time required about spending time with the family, he's going to spend a few hours with Zoe without an audience watching their every move.
Turns out dinner with his family and with Zoe and her mom wasn't as dreadful as he had thought it was going to be. His parents and Zoe's mom talked and laughed throughout the dinner, leaving him and Zoe to themselves, and Jesse. But Jesse's company wasn't as bad as it had been at first. Especially when Zoe started talking about football.
"You two should join us for Christmas," Jackie offered. "The kids get along, and it'd be nice to spend the time with friends."
"I'm not sure," Candice said, shaking her head. "I really don't want to intrude on your family celebrations, and we don't," Candice trailed off.
"We're more of a breakfast and presents family," Zoe filled in with a smile.
"Perfect," Earl said. "You can join us later in the day for dinner, we insist."
"Come on Mom, it's not like we're doing anything anyway," Zoe said, wanting to spend her Christmas with the Kinsella's.
"Okay, okay, do you need us to bring anything?" Candice asked.
With their parents finalizing the plans for Christmas, Wade and Zoe took off, heading to the lobby of the resort to be far away from their parents and from Jesse. Not that they knew where Jesse took off to the very second he finished eating. He wasn't complaining about Jesse dipping out, not when it meant he got a few moments peace at dinner without Jesse watching their every move.
"I know we talked about the dance before all the drama about you leaving early happened," Wade said, handing Zoe a cup of hot chocolate. Zoe nodded, giving him a smile, holding her cup of cocoa with both her hands. "Do you want to go to the dance with me?" Wade asked, suddenly feeling nervous about the answer Zoe is going to give him.
Before this morning, he was confident in the answer Zoe would give him. After they shared a kiss, and after the small drama of Zoe leaving only to end up staying. He can't be sure what she's going to say. He doesn't blame Zoe if she does turn him down. He can feel how weird and awkward things have become between them in the course of a day.
"I would like that," Zoe smiled. "About this morning," she sighed, carefully slipping her cup onto the coffee table in front of them.
"Zoe, if this is about the kiss this morning, we can forget it, if that's what you want," he quickly told her. He doesn't want her to feel out of sorts over an action he couldn't help. With the amount of time they've spent together, it's more than a crush. He didn't want to go home with the regret of not kissing her.
"Is that what you want?" Zoe asked, sucking her bottom lip into her mouth, her top teeth sinking into the soft flesh of her lip.
"What I want?" Wade questioned, zeroing in on Zoe's mouth. He can't outright say what he wants, for the fear of Zoe not wanting to see him. It's a risk he's not sure he can take. "Screw it," he said, under his breath, moving closer to Zoe.
He moved in slowly, giving Zoe the time to move away if she doesn't want him to kiss her. He felt her smooth glossed lips pressed against his chapped lips, his left hand resting on her thigh, his right hand, tangling in her silky brown locks. The kiss this morning doesn't even compare to the kiss they're sharing now. Growing more confident in the kiss, he sucks Zoe's bottom lip between his lips.
