Chapter Four
Adrien woke up to an unfamiliar smell of something being cooked. He immediately shot up thinking that Emma had finally figured out how to work the stove before he realized that it was probably Marinette making something for breakfast. Adrien lay back down, the memories from last night flooding back. He hadn't expected the B&B host to be so young. Marinette seemed to be in her mid-twenties around his age.
He didn't want to admit it, but she was really pretty. It wasn't weird to have a crush on your B&B hostess right? Adrien got up and quickly changed. When he stepped out of his room, all sorts of amazing smells hit his nose. He smelly bacon, eggs, and (Hugo's favorite thing in the whole world) pancakes. Her cooking must taste as amazing as it smells, Adrien thought.
He went down the stairs but stopped at the last few steps. Marinette was standing in front of the stove, stirring something in a pan. She had her hair down and hung over on her left shoulder. She seemed lost in thought, seeing as her blue eyes were sort of glazed over. Her heart-shaped lips were set in a line. Adrien didn't want to disturb her so he just stood where he was watching her.
Suddenly, a phone rang cutting Marinette out of her trance. She turned the stove off as she answered her phone. "Hey Alya, what's up?" she said with a smile (her smile made Adrien's heart flutter). Marinette's expression turned into more of a concerned face. "Is there anything you need? Anything I can do to help?" she asked. She listened to the person on the other end for a few seconds before saying, "Alright, just let me know if you need anything. And don't worry about coming in tomorrow. I'll be able to manage the shop on my own."
She listened for a few seconds again before saying "Goodbye," and hanging up. She sighed and turned to look in his direction. When Marinette saw him, she froze up immediately. "Oh, Adrien. I didn't see you there."
He rubbed the back of his neck. "Sorry, I didn't mean to eavesdrop. I just didn't want to interrupt you. Is everything okay?" he couldn't help but ask.
"Yeah, everything's fine. My friend is just having a really bad case of morning sickness and is worried about not helping me out in the bakery tomorrow."
"I can help you out if you need it," Adrien said. He then realized how awkward that offer was. Still, he wanted to get to know her. Adrien didn't know why, but she greatly intrigued him.
"Oh, you don't have to do that! Besides what about your kids."
Adrien thought about it for a second before answering, "I'm sure they'd love to help. Emma's been trying for the past few weeks to make breakfast all by herself so I'm sure she'd love to help out."
Marinette giggled a little at that. "Okay, but only if you're sure that I won't be bothering you guys. You are my guests after all."
Adrien shook his head, "They might find it as a welcome distraction while they wait for my father to arrive."
Emma and Hugo quietly snuck back to their shared room. As soon as the door was closed, Emma spun around to look at Hugo. "I told you so," she said, triumphantly. Hugo just rolled his eyes. "I can't wait till they realize they're in love."
"If they ever realize it, that is."
"Don't be such a downer, Hugo. Besides, I have a plan."
"Okay, what's your genius plan," Hugo replied sarcastically.
"Just wait and see, Hugo. Wait and see."
