Chapter Six

Adrien felt Marinette's breathing become more even. He had no idea what had happened, but when he walked into the bakery's kitchen, Marinette had been on the floor sobbing uncontrollably. He immediately went over to her and pulled her into a hug. Adrien gently rubbed her back, hoping to calm her done a bit. "Are you okay?" he whispered. She didn't answer him and tightened her grip on him more. He held her for a long time before he realized she had fallen asleep.

He picked her up gently and carried her back upstairs into her room. Adrien set her down on her bed and pulled a blanket over her. She looked peaceful while she was laying there. Adrien felt his heart flutter as he brushed some hair out of her face. He didn't know why, but something about her caught his attention. Maybe, it was her kindness or her selflessness. Maybe, it was the way she accepted them into her home right away. The way she treated his kids with such attention and interest. Before he knew what he was doing, Adrien leaned forward and kissed her forehead.

He froze as Marinette stirred a little, but she remained asleep. A small smile graced her lips, and Adrien's heart beat just the tiniest bit faster. Even though they'd practically just met, Adrien could feel himself falling head over heels for this woman. He'd never been in love before. He didn't know how he was going to act or what to say to her when she woke up. All he knew was that something about them being together felt right.

Adrien got up to leave and turned to the door when he noticed some random pictures on top of her dresser. He walked over to them and saw all sorts of pictures from Marinette's childhood. He saw one of her on her graduation day. There were two people, a man and a woman, standing on either side of her looking very proud and happy be to there. They must be her parents he mused to himself. I wonder what happened to them.

When Adrien stepped out into the hallway, he saw Hugo looking outside with wide eyes. He approached him and squat down to his level. He was about to ask him what he was looking at when he saw what was going on outside. There was a snowstorm happening and white specks of snow were swirling all over the place. Hugo turned to look at him. "Are we gonna be stuck here forever?" he whispered.

Adrien pulled him into and hug and started to rub his back. "Not forever. Just a few days until the storm goes away and the snow melts." He was thankful that Marinette had planned for this when she heard of the freak storm coming. Yet another one of her amazing features.

Hugo felt a great amount of comfort in his dad's hug. Although Emma would be upset by the fact that their dad wasn't helping Marinette in the kitchen, Hugo knew that she wouldn't be too mad. At least that's what he hoped. He refused to admit this to anyone, but he was sometimes scared of Emma. She was especially scary when she was angry. With the snowstorm stopping them from going anywhere, they'd have plenty of opportunities to 'play match-maker' (whatever that meant). Right now, Hugo was content to pull his dad along as they went downstairs to grab something to eat.
