A Place In This World
As the fight against one of Trakeena's minions ensued, the Galaxy rangers were down! The wretched felt sure of their victory, or so they thought before the purple Turbo power ranger came to the aid of the Galaxy in the nic of time.
"Who is that?!" Damon said.
"It's a turbo ranger!" Leo replied as he had knowledge of who the Turbo power rangers were, having grown up in Angel Grove. "Hey!-" Before he could finish his sentence the turbo ranger disappeared.
Emma teleported to the Astro megaship once she felt confident the rangers had the upper hand in battle. She had been in this specific ship a few times before when she would visit the Space Rangers, the original inhabitants on the vessel. Emma intended on surprising Alpha 6, however D.E.C.A announced her arrival before she was able to do so.
"Ay, Ay Princess!" Alpha squealed and immediately hugged Emma.
"Alpha!" She giggled, returning the embrace. Emma loved Alpha, it felt like a piece of home was here with her as memories of her adventures with the turbo flooded her mind. Now, Emma didn't like being addressed by her royal title but Alpha was an exception as he would address her "Princess" or "your highness" regardless.
"Welcome aboard, Emma." D.E.C.A had been previously programmed by Andros to address Emma by her name and not her title.
"Thanks, D.E.C.A." Emma smiled softly. "Show me the rangers." She said as D.E.C.A pulled up the rangers on a screen.
"Are you on a mission, Emma?" Alpha asked.
"Yeah, I guess you could say that." Emma replied feeling nervous. "Alpha, could you tell me more about the galaxy rangers?" She wanted to do her research before meeting them.
"Absolutely, Princess!" Alpha enthusiastically replied, pulling up the rangers files up on another screen.
"This was Mike, the original red ranger before he perished." Alpha sighed sadly.
The fallen ranger. Emma thought to herself.
"This is Leo, the current red ranger and Mike's younger brother."
"The red ranger was his brother?" Emma pointed at the screen as Alpha nodded. "Aw man…" She let out a sigh filled with sorrow.
"They are from Angel Grove, your highness." Alpha figured that small detail might cheer her up a bit.
"Really?" Emma smiled, surprised and pleased at the small fact.
"Yes." Alpha felt accomplished. "This is Kendrix and Kai, the pink and blue ranger. They work at the space station. This is Damon, the green ranger and mechanic for the ship and space station. Last but not least is Maya, the yellow ranger. She is from a distant planet called Mirinoi." He concluded by adding the few tidbits he figured would be important for Emma to know.
"Thank you, Alpha." Emma smiled softly before the rangers entered the bridge.
There was a lot of chatter happening among the rangers as their spirits were high reeling from their victory but also planning their next tactic in hopes to find the lights of Orion before Trakeena. As they entered the bridge the room went silent for a moment as the five rangers remembered Alpha mentioning the arrival of the Princess of The Power Kingdom in the near future, though at the time the robot wasn't sure of the exact time and date.
"Emmalee Trueman, right?" Leo beamed! Instantly recognizing her as the daughter of Angel Grove's former mayor and the current chairman of NASADA and Terra Venture. But why was she here?
"That's correct." Emma let out a soft and bashful chuckle. "And you are?" She feigned not knowing their identities.
"I'm Leo." He smiled, followed by introducing the rest of his friends. "These are my friends, Damon, Maya, Kai and Kendrix." Despite the inner grief he was a cheerful man.
"It's an honor to meet you, Ms. Trueman." Kai couldn't believe he was standing in front of the Chairman's daughter!
"I second that!" Kendrix grinned.
"Likewise, I've heard a lot about you." Emma politely shook all their hands. "About all of you actually." A slight smirk formed on her lips.
The six rangers stood in confusion before figuring out who she really was and under the same breath they chorused, "the Princess!" Followed by bowing respectfully. Emma's cheeks flushed!
"Your highness, it's an honor to have you aboard our ship." Maya politely welcomed Emma.
"Please don't call me princess or your highness, just Emma. Okay?" Emma smiled politely. "I'm just Emma." The underlying sorrow she felt was evident to the crew and nodded.
"Emma, welcome." Maya corrected herself, smiling.
"Thank you Maya." Emma replied with a smile as well.
As the rangers gave the newest member of their team a tour of the refurbished Astro megaship and showed her to her new bedroom, they talked about all sorts of adventures and topics to get to know each other better. After dinner the rangers each dispersed to their bedrooms for a good night sleep.. Despite the warm welcome Emma felt out of place and restless. Unable to sleep, she wandered to the recreation area where she spotted Leo sitting by a window holding a photo of him and his brother, reminiscing of their days together.
"Can't sleep?" Emma said, standing by the door frame.
Looking up, Leo smiled softly.
"Not really." He chuckled softly.
Waving her over and Emma accepted his invitation, sitting across from him.
"Your brother?" She nodded at the picture and Leo's smile faded as he nodded. "I'm sorry for your loss, Leo." Emma sympathized with the red leader.
"He's my hero, y'know." Leo let out a doleful chuckle. "I miss him every damn day." He gripped the picture frame, fighting back the tears.
Emma, too, fought back her tears, experiencing what Leo was feeling in the moment.
"I understand what that's like." Emma replied. "I didn't lose a brother but I lost someone I truly loved and I miss him every day.." She added.
Alpha had briefed the rangers, mainly Leo being the leader, of Emma's history and what led her to leave earth. The robot didn't share too much in order to not overstep Emma's boundaries and privacy but enough to help Leo understand a bit more.
"Want to talk about him?" Leo opened a door of confidentiality for Emma to open up. She clearly needed some weight lifted off her shoulders and he wanted to be that friend for her.
Emma appreciated the offer but she didn't know Leo well enough to open up to but she offered him a small smile as she shook her head. She wasn't ready.
"If you ever want to talk…I'm here." Leo was genuinely a great friend and human being, his empathy had no limits.
"Thank you, Leo. Really." Emma sincerely replied. "How did he perish?"
"Mike fell into a crevasse…saving me." Leo sighed, looking down at Mike's picture. "...I-I-...this is going to sound crazy but…I don't think he's dead." He scoffed at himself.
"What do you mean?" Emma asked. I mean, didn't he just say his brother felt into a crevasse?
"I have dreams about him. They're so vivid, it's like he's guiding me to find him!" Leo enthusiastically explained. "I'm crazy, aren't I?"
Emma nodded and took a moment to register the information Leo laid out before making her own assessment.
"Crazy? No, not at all. Optimistic? Yes. Hell, farfetch'd even." Emma's honesty caused Leo to chuckle in amusement. "But not crazy."
"Thanks, Em" Leo grinned a bit. "I just know I will find him one day." He assured himself.
Emma wistfully smiled and nodded, believing in his faith. After the two called it a night, Emma walked back to her room where she found a box containing her personal effects perched on her bed. Dimitria had it sent to her. Opening the box she pulled out a photograph of Max, immediately dropping to the floor before her body responded.
"Max…" Emma called out his name and for the first time since leaving earth, she allowed herself to truly feel the pain and sorrow she was still experiencing years later. Emma had numbed herself and whenever she'd think of Max and felt the urge to weep, she'd push it away. But not tonight, not at this moment. Right now she wasn't the princess or the turbo ranger, she was just Emma and she felt alone in her grief and in her world. "I'm so sorry, Maximilian! I'm sorry." She wept, clutching the photograph against her chest. Rocking her body to soothe herself. "I love you…" Nothing could heal her broken heart.
Alpha had been patrolling the halls whilst the rangers slept, hearing the soft whimpering coming from Emma's room the robot stood in silence. He desperately wanted to comfort his friend but knew it was best to give Emmalee her space.
The night was long for some but morning had arrived and a brand new day was to begin. As the rangers dispersed to their own duties, Emma went on an adventure of her own to better familiarize herself with Terra Venture and to get away from the ship for a while. As the brown eyed beauty explored the terrain she found herself on top of a beautiful cliff with an amazing view of the canyons below when suddenly something caught her attention. Her eyes briefly glowed a light shade of purple indicating an energy source was nearby.
"Are you just going to stand there, or are you going to introduce yourself?" Emma fearlessly said, recognizing the origin of the energy she sensed.
"Your Highness." A deep husky voice echoed from behind a few trees. "I am the Magna Defender." He bowed. The Magna Defender was very familiar with the Power Kingdom, having fought alongside Emma's ancestors. The regal energy emitted from the morphing grid is what gave Emma away, not to mention her striking resemblance to a past Queen he once fought alongside with.
Emma, having never met the Magna Defender, felt his energy derived from the Morphin Grid. Turning around to meet him she disliked the introduction even though it was correct.
"Don't call me that." She replied. "So you're the one who's been troubling the galaxy rangers." Emma had been briefed about the situation between the Magna Defender by the rangers.
"They keep getting in my way." Magna Defender replied.
"In the way of what? Fighting the same evil?" Emma felt confused.
"They keep getting in my way of revenge for my son, Zika!" The Magna Defender had a short fuse and he let it be known.
"But we're on the same side, Magna Defender." Emma's voice softens.
"I am not." He firmly replied.
Something within the Magna Defender made him cringe and he disappeared almost instantly, leaving Emma filled with so many questions as she only knew of him from what she was taught during her training. To be honest, Emma found the Magna Defender interesting,
