Christmas Advent
Chapter 7-December 7th
Work was a slog and Mike was exhausted. He was seriously thinking about retirement. Work just didn't have the same allure as it used to. He could finish his house and could do his own thing. Maybe get a pet to keep him occupied.
He pulled into his driveway and immediately noticed the large package sitting in front of his front door. He got out of the truck and unlocked his door. Mike carried the package in and opened it as soon as he found a knife. There was a couple boxes of storebought ornaments and a tree skirt. And of course, a note.
"You can decorate the tree and have it ready or you can wait until Christmas Eve. Your choice."
Mike looked at the box and at the tree and thought. He was so confused. Of course, the ornaments were color coordinated. Red, white and blue. He remembered Christine choosing that for a tree theme year after year. It was a favorite. She would mix in other ornaments that the kids had made but the theme was almost always red, white and blue balls.
Very few people knew and Mike wasn't sure that Tom or Russ would remember. It was the little details that someone knew that threw Mike. He refused to get his hopes up and think it might be Christine or the girls. He had been down that road and been disappointed and heartbroken time and time again.
