Penelope (P.O.V)
I sat in the backseat of Dad's cruiser, smiling at the text message from Edward, trying to avoid the awkward atmosphere because Bella and Dad.
I looked up from my phone when I heard that speak. "Your hair's longer." Dad said with his eyes focused on the road.
"I got it cut since the last time I saw you". Bella said awkwardly as she begin playing with her hair.
"Guess it grew out again". Dad muttered as awkwardly. I sighed at the dejected sound in dad's voice. I know as much as Dad tried he and Bella would never be close. Unfortunately it's my sister fault as she doesn't have any empathy and understanding.
I smiled immediately as dad drove through town and turned onto our street. I've missed being home the one place I never considered Phoenix. I blinked rapidly as a familiar silver Volvo sat in front of the house and a familia figure leaning against the car.
"Dad you told Edward I was here??? I wanted it to be a surprise". I said pouting looking at the rearview mirror.
Dad turned around. "I didn't say anything to him Penny I swear". Dad said to which I mentally face palmed as in my excitement I forgot about Edward's ability. "He could have heard around town as I have been excited about you girls coming that I might have mentioned it to a few people sorry Princess". Dad said flustered as he rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly.
"It's fine Dad the cat's already out of the bag". I said, smiling before hopping out of the car. in a matter of moments I was engulfed in my mate arms.
"God I can't believe your here. How I've missed...". Edward got himself off in mid sentence as I felt his entire body stiffened, and a growled stuck in his throat.
I pulled away immediately looking at his face to see his eyes darkening. "Edward what's wrong? When was the last time you fed?". I whispered worriedly as I caressed his cheek, he leaed into my touch.
"I fed a few hours ago". Edward said as he seems to be fighting with himself. "Love I'm sorry, but I have to cut my visit short. I don't want to hurt anyone". Edward said placing a kiss on my forehead before rushing to the driver seat.
"Wait". I said before turning around to dad. "Dad I'll be back soon". I called out as I saw him, helping Bella with her things. It didn't go notice As her brown eyes was looking past me.
"Alright princess be careful". Dad called out. I felt bad I've barely been home less than five minutes and I was already leaving, but Edward really needed me at the moment, and I wanted to find out what was going on with him.
"I will". I said as I rushed over to the passenger side seat getting into the Volvo.
Edward didn't say anything as he pulled away and immediately drove. "What happened back there?". I asked as I reached over grabbing his hand.
"I'm sorry love, I just had to get out of there. Your sister's blood was calling out to me". Edward said as my eyes wide as I remembered a discussion that pertain to how vampires had one person that's blood would call out to them the most.
"Bella's your blood singer isn't she". I said as Edward slowly nodded his head. "What do we do?". I asked worriedly.
Edward sighed as he rubs small circles on the back of my hand. "I'll have to avoid being around until I'm able to keep my hunger under control. There's one more thing you should know about Penny, I don't know how but I am unable to hear any thoughts from your sister". Edward said taking me by surprise.
"You can't hear anything at all". I asked as Edward shook his head. "Is it possible that she has some sort of gift that has manifested even though she's human". I asked curiously as Edward remain silent stuck in thought.
"Maybe, Carlisle has come across a vampire that had some sort of mental shield. Your sister could possibly have that ability, and if ever transitioned, it could become a physical one". Edward said driving out of town.
I really didn't know how to feel about that at the moment, especially after seeing Bella couldn't take her eyes off of Edward. For what felt like the thousand's time that day I knew my sister moving to Forks was going to be a bad decision that was going to come back to bite us in the ass.
