Christmas Advent

Chapter 8-December 8th

Mike decided to decorate the tree, wondering what he needed to be prepared for on Christmas Eve. He had the sudden impulse to make his house perfect and even finished a few projects. He even took an extra day off work but had to run to the hardware store for trim pieces and a few other supplies.

When he walked up on the porch, there was another box. He juggled it and his purchases from the hardware store. This box was another small one and he immediately opened it and smiled. It was another ornament, and looked familiar. He turned it over and over. Finally, he realized it was like his grandmother's favorite ornament. A tiny white porcelain church.

It wasn't an exact replica but it was very similar. When his grandma died; it was the one thing he wanted and the only thing he got. Thankfully, Christine had also treasured it and it always found a way onto their tree. After the Red Flu, Mike had never found it in the house in Norfolk. He wasn't sure where it had ended up and honestly hadn't thought of it in years. It was just another thing that brought pain.

He hung up the ornament where he could see it from his recliner. Unlike the 'Baby's First Christmas,' he was thrilled to have the tiny church. There was no note in the box but the ornament was sufficient and it made him happy.
