Chapter 15
After pleading his case; Danny's unit would be home. The fun part was that they were able to keep it a secret. Kara wouldn't even know. And Mike had also found out why she had wanted Danny home when she threw up in his office trash can. There would be a new Greene born around the first of June.
It made his heart happy. Of course; he loved kids and he knew that Kara and Danny had overcome a lot to get them to that point. It did remind him a bit of the fights he and Christine had had. He would have done anything to go back and give her what she wanted. She simply wanted him home.
It wasn't like the Navy fulfilled him anymore. Sure, he had good friends that had become family, but his house and his bed was still empty when he got home. Quietly; he had typed up his resignation letter. He just wanted to get that unit home before he turned it in, not wanting the President to change his mind. He got home and found a smaller box on his doorstep; with a go container of food. In the package; there was a soft sweater that would fit Mike perfectly. It was warm feeling and made him smile. He reheated the dinner and settled to read the note.
"Wear this on Christmas Eve. It'll fit…and yes; I know its not your taste."
Mike put the sweater in his laundry room to wash before Christmas and settled with his food. A pork chop, roasted potatoes and green beans. It was delicious and Mike hoped that the sweater would actually fit. He was eating better than he did normally.
