Prompt from Hades Lord of the Dead: Trumpets

I paused my reading and put my book down. "Holmes, can you hear that?"

Holmes, nearly buried in a pile of newspapers, raised his head, tilting it slightly as he listened. "Yes; ring the bell, Watson, and ask Mrs Hudson to set an extra place for our supper."

"An extra place?" I asked, startled. As far as I knew, we were not expecting a guest, and Holmes had no case at present that may bring unexpected visitors. I listened for a bell or the sound of a cab outside, but could hear nothing but the trumpets. "How could you know that?"

Holmes laughed. "As ever, Watson, it is a simple matter of deduction. Those trumpets are the first signal for the policeman's band that will be passing through Baker Street just before supper." He gestured down to the pile of newspapers surrounding him. "Bradstreet always comes to watch the band, and while he is here, he will save time and come to consult me on the robbery of Haig Bank last Wednesday. I'm sure you're familiar with it, it's been in all the papers."

"Excellent!" I exclaimed. I had indeed seen the news of the robbery in the papers, and I knew Bradstreet's fondness for the policeman's band, but never would I have connected the chain of facts to their conclusion.
