"As for being a little bunny that never says a word, that is truly the opposite of me." -Brigitte Bardot

Leo darted behind a grimy dumpster, the scent of moldy pizza and car exhaust drifted heavily in the New York City air; that same familiar odor filling up his lungs as he exhaled a faint puff of condensation fog into the dark skies. Listening intently for the pitter-patter of soft paws only the revving of engines and blaring sirens called back to him disappointedly. The street life was still rumbling with lively activity despite the late hours, and the shifty moon walkers scuttled past him, not even taking account of the strangely shaped teenager shuffling in and out of the shadows. He jutted his neck out further taking in the sights before almost smacking into a scowling man carrying a tattered briefcase at his side.

That was too close.

Pulling on the loose strings of his hoodie Leo huddled further away from the sewers with a narrowed gaze.

He had a mission to complete regardless of the risks.

It was past 4 AM and after he totally duped Donnie out of taking his nightly melatonin when his twin came in with a steaming cup of laced green tea, he sprung into action snatching a disguise as he prepared to flee. Feigning a yawn as he sleep waddled away and dove into his room ignoring the raucous snores of Raph, and the occasional mumbling of little Mikey. No doubt in his mind that Dad was knocked out in front of the TV playing continuous re-runs of commercials, and as for his purple inventor of a brother; well DonTron would be too preoccupied with his latest gadgets to notice immediately that his charming better half had slipped away. Yeah it wasn't the most trusting thing to do to them, and if they found out he went missing in the city alone he'd have his shell handed to him for sure, but this was for-

Flushing red complimenting the stripes over his eyes Leo shook his head. No time to dawdle, he had to keep going.

Trying to ignore the devious thoughts creeping into the pits of his mind reminding him of how screwed he would be if caught, the boy climbed up the fire escape on the side of a nearby apartment complex. Yanking off his sweatshirt he discarded it beside himself as he crouched over the edge watching the city below him.

Oh man, if his family saw him now he'd be toast, literal toast, buttered, jammed, and cut into four equal pieces served with a glass of milk. Damn, that would suck.

And the looks he would receive; that disappointed big brother glare from Raph, those sadden tear inducing puppy-dog eyes from Mikey, and Donnie. His own twin probably- no, definitely would give him the cold shoulder for who knows how long. And what about Pops-

"Leonardo?"

"Gah-wha?!"

Flailing with his arms spread out wide the mutant teen nearly buckled over the edge if it were not for two plush hands reeling him back onto solid ground. Looking up at his savior Leo felt his jaw drop as he met those deep ruby orbs peering back at him with mischievous concern. No matter how many times he snuck out and met up with this handsome stranger his heart began to beat like it was the first time all over again.

Usagi waved a paw gingerly in front of Leo's hazy eyes.

"Are you alright?"

"Gahh- Yeaah, yeah. Meant to do that." He said sheepishly, rubbing the back of his smooth (bald) head.

Play it cool Leo, just play it cool.

Softly smiling Usagi nuzzled up closer to the taller boy, letting his white fur brush up against Leonardo's shoulder. His floppy ears were tied up again in a long ribbon, the same shade of blue as the other's mask.

Murmuring to the point where it was almost humming, Usagi whispered, "I was worried you had run into trouble since you are later than usual."

Leo sighed as he wrapped an arm around the smaller rabbit, feeling the gentle warmth radiating from the boy's fluffy fur.

"Well, it was harder to get out. Donnie's been real sus lately. Bro thinks I might be off fighting the Foot or some other baddies by myself. As if," Reeling back, he clumsily continued, "I mean I could totally fight them off by myself! If I had too, but you know I'm too busy and good looking to get involved in all that."

Usagi snorted and rolled his perfect red eyes.

"Of course how could I forget how mighty Leonardo-san truly is? For he could face one hundred foes and still be victorious in battle."

"Exactly- wait was that sarcasm? Are you sassing me?" He cried in disbelief.

Dissolving into squeaky giggles, Usagi temporarily broke away from the taller mutant's hold.

"And what if I was?" He snarked, still laughing.

"You- I'll!" Leo made visual contact with that beautiful face and felt his heart twist itself into defeat.

"… Never mind."

"That's what I thought." Usagi twittered, as he nudged Leo's side.

Poking the other in retaliation, Leo promised, "Just because you're cute doesn't mean I won't get you back one day."

"I'd like to see you try."

Leo huffed as the two huddled closer in the cool midnight breeze. It was nice just being together without any distractions. No brothers to intervene and play a thousand questions with his boyfriend, no dad giving him the 'talk' (the image alone of his old man in front of him reciting some ancient parable about protection was traumatizing enough as it is), it was only them and the moon.

Staring off into the bustling city below them Usagi spoke, his eyes never leaving the light polluted streets surrounding them.

"Will you ever tell them about us? Surely you cannot keep this a secret forever."

Leo let loose a half laugh catching Usagi's attention as his ears perked up.

Telling his family about his unknown boyfriend? That wasn't going to happen anytime soon. It was just too much to explain, especially with him becoming leader, and everything just all happening at once. It was just- He wasn't ready yet.

"I-I can't. Not right now," Leo started chewing on his lip, "It's just not a good time. Ya know with me taking charge, and the Shredder, it's it's-"

Paws cupped the red-eared slider's cheeks, and Leo was brought back from his rampant thoughts by two innocent eyes intensively observing him; worry visible within each pupil.

"Then we will wait."

Usagi brought his lips to Leo's and the two shared a chaste kiss; like fleeting rain on a sunny day it was brief and sweet.

Nearly breathless Leo mustered up the courage and asked, "You really don't mind?"

Shaking his head, the moon creating a halo around his stark white fur, Usagi once again gave one of his brilliant smiles.

"I don't mind. We can wait as long as the stars still shine, my love for you will never fade."

"I love it when you get all poetic." Leo mused, a hint of a chirp heard between his words, "Makes me feel like we're in a romantic movie."

Chortling quietly, Usagi quipped, "Then let's have a happy ending."

Tilting his head down Leo brought his mouth less than centimeters from the rabbit boy's.

"Yeah, let's."

The two engaged in a spellbinding kiss the moon was the only witness, shining bright above them with its pearlescent glow. And as the time passed they stayed comfortably in each other's embrace- that was until a familiar and rather loud ringtone went off, with a very angry purple garbed brother demanding answers at the end of the line.

But that's a story for another day or another night.
