"Can you please explain to me why I'm having to do this?" Sarah huffed as she straddled the branches of a tree with her feet.
Tally winced, "You're the tallest out of all of us? Besides, I thought you'd like windstrike some of it down."
Sarah rolled her eyes as she finally reached the branch she was climbing for and pulled her scissors out. Before she started snipping she whispered a blessing, "We thank you for these offerings, we will only take what we need," and then she began snipping off some of the mistletoe and tossing it down to a waiting Tally.
"You know you could've said no."
Sarah sighed, "You know I could never deny you anything, Tally."
Tally smiled up at her, "Really?"
"I'm up a tree cutting mistletoe for you aren't I?"
Tally blushed as Sarah cut a few more sprigs of mistletoe and headed back down to meet her on the ground. She handed over the last of the mistletoe and gave a mock bow to her before grinning as Tally rolled her eyes.
"You know mistletoe is a parasitic plant?"
The redhead looked at the bundle of mistletoe in her hands and frowned, "No, I guess I never really thought about it."
"Some stories say we have the goddess Frigg to thank for the kissing under mistletoe tradition."
Tally blurts out, "Have you ever kissed anyone under the mistletoe?"
Sarah chuckles and turns her gaze away, "I have not, which doesn't mean people haven't tried to kiss me under it. I've had to spurn many advances under this little parasite."
"Oh? Why?"
"I was never really in a position to allow myself such liberties. Beltane was only ever the exception but that was for duty, not for fun or for feelings," Sarah found herself holding her arms behind her back, something she hadn't done in a very long time.
The younger witch found the courage to shoot her shot, "And what about now? Would you kiss someone under mistletoe now? I mean, now that you're no longer the general of the United States? Now that you're just Sarah?"
Sarah smirked at where she was going with this, "Tally Craven, are you wanting to kiss me under the mistletoe?"
Tally was pretty sure she was full body blushing by now as she looked everywhere else other than Sarah's face, "I well…yes?"
The brunette chuckled and Tally was made very aware of Sarah stepping into her personal space causing her to finally make eye contact with those baby blues.
"You know you don't need mistletoe to kiss me right?" Sarah glances down at her quivering lips.
Tally's at a loss for words as she squeaks out, "I don't?"
Sarah nods in response, "But if you would like to be my first mistletoe kiss I'll allow it just this once?"
"But I can kiss you after the mistletoe kiss too, right?" Tally sets this look as if she's now on a very important mission.
"Are you up for the responsibility?
Tally grins, "Yes, ma'am," as she holds a sprig of the mistletoe up above their heads and with a confidence she didn't have before she leans into a waiting Sarah and meets her lips.
It's but a taste when they pull apart and it takes Sarah a minute to open her eyes as she savors the short kiss, "Just as I thought, kissing you tastes like sunshine in a bottle."
It takes a minute before Tally realizes what she's said, "Wait, you've thought about us kissing before?"
"Oh, from time to time, more so now that I'm no longer over you."
Tally's mouth gets the better of her and blurts out, "Would you like to be? Over me or under me for that matter?"
It takes Sarah a minute to realize what Tally has just said before she starts laughing, "Tally Craven, you are something else."
"Is that a good thing?"
Sarah smiles and takes her hand and pulls her long, "It's a very good thing. Let's ditch this mistletoe, shall we?"
Tally nods vigorously as she lets herself be pulled along, she's never loved mistletoe as much as she does right now.
But she loves Sarah Alder even more.
