AN: Hey there! Welcome back! I promise these next few chapters will be lighter in tone. Though on the other side of things, there will still be times where I have to give a trigger warning. Just occasionally though...anywhoser! Feed back would be appreciated, as well as suggestions, as I don't want this fanfic to fall apart, but ya know. We'll see what happens. Anyway, let's get back into the fray.
Pico's POV
After we got outside, everything seemed to blur. It kinda reminded me of my preschool days, but that thought didn't really linger. I notice Bf walking along side a surprisingly dizzy Nova, I'd question it if I really was certain about her. She had protected Bf, but for all I could tell, that wolf was still a bit iffy. I watched the other group admits the more typical group, one of the men dragged her towards an ambulance. She seemed to drag behind the man, trying to be trying to tell him she didn't need to get checked out. Though between her new bruises, and the blood dripping from her head, I wouldn't have let her go either. I kinda could empathize though, hospitals and I weren't a comfortable topic either. Bf looked up at me, as I stared at Nova with a mixture of emotions. "You know," he said, giving me a bit of a look,"Between everything, she might not be someone you need to be that wary of."
I sighed, closing my eyes,"She's too similar to anything from my worst memories, especially work ones."
Bf stayed silent, though I figured so we wouldn't start fighting over something stupid. "Let's go," he said walking ahead of me, and as much as I didn't want to get checked out by anybody; I wasn't about to fight with him either.
After that, I just kinda tensed up, and zoned out. Only occasionally remembering glancing over at Nova, trying to make sure she wasn't going to harm anybody...though even then I wasn't at my best.
Boyfriends POV
After getting cleared, it felt like things might be going back to a semi normal. That said, I just couldn't buy the idea that Pico might be a bit over worried about Nova, and her motives. I got that Cassandra was insane, and some sort of demon, and that his current job had him using his Uzi's constantly; but, Nova seemed to be in some sort of line of work that might kinda line up with his. Even with her being on edge with sitting in the back of an ambulance, I just wanted her to have a friend outside of her job. Also, I kinda figured Girlfriend would enjoy having another friend outside of her parents bubble. "Hey Nova," I spoke with a chipper tone,"Want to trade contact info?"
"You sure?" She asked, a nice smile crossing her face,"I met your Girlfriend while checking on this job, and I don't want to make her jealous for no reason."
A grin crossed my face, the fact that even with all the problems during today, that she didn't want to cause problems. "Honestly," I said kindly,"Girlfriend doesn't get like that easily. She knows I wouldn't do that to her."
Nova nodded, still being cautious, but we did trade phones and plug in numbers. She and, I talked for a few more minutes, sharing positive stories, and talking about interests until she was finally cleared. She waved goodbye, and went on her way. Not that I knew where, but when I turned around, I noticed Pico was already gone too. I sighed, knowing that he had probably been thrown off by everything today, so I just took a bus home. And when I got home, I texted Gf and family, to let them know I was ok.
Nova's POV
After getting home, the exhaustion, stress, and trauma finally hit me all at once. I closed my door, and collapsed onto my knees. I was thankful that I could heal quicker than most, so getting stitches hadn't been necessary for my head, but still everything felt like a weight. I could feel tears threatening to stream down my face when my phone rang. I shakily stood up, my knees still radiated with pain when I answered the phone. "Nova," the man who became my father at the Bureau said calmly into the phone,"Nice work today."
I hummed, not even trying to hide from him my current feelings. "I know you're in a really bad space right now," he said, his voice becoming more father like after my reaction,"Do you want me to drop by?"
I began to cry, and my voice cracked as I said,"No, I don't need getting scolded dad. Can you just stay on the phone with me for a while?"
And just like that, the 2 of us talked for hours, Roman had become my father because he was the only person at the Bureau who I would trust for the longest time. He adopted me, and taught me how to fight without my creepy powers. He even taught me the little control I did have over those transformations, it felt good to hear him talk about annoying agents he was working with currently. Then as I felt more at ease, my voice evening out he sighed, letting me know we had to get down to business. I finished laughing at the joke he told just before hand, and then he spoke,"Sorry to have to start on the heavy note first kiddo, but as far as that transformation, what happened?"
I sighed, trying to think about how to describe it. It occurred to me however, that this time I had a major fluke. The situation was different, and it still confused me as to why this had happened. "Ok," I started,"Typical sudden burst of heat, lots of pain, and then wolf form. This time however, even with the stress, and the why, I actually 1.) saved the person who was in danger, and 2.) was able to communicate in said form."
The phone went silent for what felt like an eternity, until I heard him pipe back up,"Really?"
"Uhm hum!" I replied,"I was kinda surprised myself."
We went back and forth about this for a while, him asking me questions about that event, and doing some overall questions about the lab shortly after before giving me the spiel I had been waiting for,"Right, with that crap out of the way, you'll be getting some paperwork in the morning. You'll have to fill out those reports, and then move and put in your 2 weeks at the store. Those guys were way to close to home, and we'll work on making arrangements with your current land lord."
"Hell, after I sign those reports, I'll probably lay low in one of my old hide aways near by," I replied,"No need for me to endanger anyone else nearby while we figure out a new place and job!"
Roman chuckled, he knew I was being serious, but was just happy to hear me sounding better. "Take care of yourself Nova," he said, and then hung up.
I knew things were about to get nuts, just how nuts, I wasn't sure.
AN: This chapter was going to be longer, but I think that would make things a little tedious, so I'll just stop things here. Stuff will wind down quite a bit for the time being, with some fluffy stuff to come. So keep your eyes open for that! Remember to keep on keeping on, and I'll see you in chapter 4. Sorry about how short this is, things should get better next chapter.
