AN: Ok, just wanted to again apologize for how short the pervious chapter was, I ultimately ended up rounding the events off. Also I may or may not have had ideas that either I didn't like, or didn't make sense in the grand scheme of things. With that out of the way, the only warning I have for this chapter is a foul language. So if you hate swearing, that's your cue to leave.
Nova's POV
It took the Bureau a while to get all the paper work together, but I had finally gotten to move house. It had become rocky a few days before the move, but all in all everything seemed fine. Roman had even convinced some of the higher ups at the Bureau to get new furniture, and appliances for the place. When I got to the apartment buildings, I could see why. "Sorry," said the man who had driven me to my new place,"They wanted to make it inconspicuous, and unlikely so they couldn't track you. Especially since you were one of their prime experiments."
I shook my head, looking back at the driver. "It's not your fault, so don't blame yourself," I stated calmly.
The man smiled, wishing me luck before driving away. This prompted me to drag the few belongings I did have into the main entrance. The walls were cracked inside, and dirt felt like it permeated every surface. One could smell a mixture of things, none of which smelled good. I sighed, resigning myself to this, as this was the best choice I had. "Are you Nova?" Asked a young lady, who seemed be slightly younger than me.
I nodded, not sure who this was, and then the girl was excited,"Thank god! Mary told me part of what happened at her place, and I just wanted to make sure, and yeah...! Crap sorry, I'm Sophie, and my Mom is the Landlord here, so ummmm. Follow me."
Mary had told me about Sophie a few times, so seeing her mannerisms in person made the stories more real. I was also glade this sweet, flighty, faun haired girl would be in the same building. Mary had also told me that Sophie's mom was a tougher woman, who didn't take crap from anyone. So I was curious as to how her personality would match up with Mary's stories about the 2. As we walked along, I noticed the Sophie seemed to pause, like her nerves were getting the best of her. While she was paused for one of these beats, I carefully placed a hand on her shoulder and said,"Hey, don't worry about making a perfect impression for me. Alright? I'm not going to back out on this place, it's currently the only option I've got, and I'm grateful to even have a place to stay. You don't have to be scared, ok?"
I could feel any tension in Sophie's shoulders leave before she whipped around and hugged me. "Thank you Nova!" She cheered, her happiness was infectious,"Mary said you were sweet, and you sure don't disappoint!"
I laughed, just thanking her for the compliment while returning her hug. The 2 of us talked while walking down the hall, and eventually reached her moms office. "Anywho," she giggled,"Let's go in to see mom real quick."
Sophie knocked on the office door where a simple,"Enter," followed.
Sophie looked back at me, giving me a semi apologetic look before walking in ahead of me. "Hey mom, I'm here with the new tenant," she said smiling brightly.
"Oh my- Sophie I'm sorry!" The older lady said suddenly getting up to give Sophie a hug.
One could just tell where Sophie got her faun brown hair. Although mostly grey, Sophie's mother still maintained some color in her hair. She had some slightly hardened wrinkles, and was only slightly heavy set. After a few minutes, the 2 of them separated from the hug. "Nova, this is my mom, Mavis Forger. She's the owner of the building," Sophie introduced us with a kind smile.
"Nice to meet you Mrs. Forger," I said holding my hand out, trying to be highly respectful.
Mavis held a very critical, and searching gaze, that only lightened when our hands met with a hardy shake. She laughed, and became surprisingly light hearted,"I haven't been a Missus since my husband passed. That said, thank you for the effort little Nova."
I smiled, glad to see I had made a good impression on the new landlord. She didn't seem all that bad, but I wondered if there was something else to it. "How's Roman been doing as a desk jokey?" She slightly joking.
My eyes sparkled at the thought of getting to talk about my adoptive father. "He's been doing great, in fact he still does his own brand of undercover work."
The partial joke seemed to hit properly, as Mavis gave me a kind chuckle. "I heard that's how you got the knew furniture in the apartment. Granted, I may have dropped the hint that the prior tenants had be drugged up crazies who liked to cook meth," she said with a smile,"I'm actually just glad I finally get to meet agent Roman Niles daughter. I swear when he told me, that he took you in, that I thought he was crazy."
I laughed at the comment, remembering many a night of him begging friends for help with me over the phone,"I wouldn't have blamed you. I remember him begging fellow agents for help with me all the time. Thankfully, I'm not a psychopath or sociopath!"
All of us had a big laugh about those comments alone, with Mavis even admitting to helping him the most during that time. "So we could have been sisters!" Sophie joked, and her mom patted her on the shoulder.
"We can be friends now," I said kindly,"I mean seriously, I need more friends than I have."
Sophie seemed surprised, and her mom smiled thankfully at me. "THANKYOUSOMUCHOMG!" Sophie cheered, causing laughter from her mom, and myself.
"With that out of the way," Mavis said leaning against her desk,"Sophie, could I have you call the plumber for apartment 110, the lady hasn't been able to get anyone out here. Also let them know we'll cover it."
Sophie saluted her mother, and picked up the phone on her desk. Mavis pushed off the desk, and walked over to whisper in my ear. "Considering you've been getting along, I would've actually had her bring you to your apartment. Though, I know how much one of our tenants likes to harass her if she does so."
I nodded, slightly concerned about those comments, but I trusted that she wasn't just doing this without a good reason. As we walked to the elevator, I could feel her trying to keep calm about the prior statement. "So um," I commented trying to figure out how best to articulate what I wanted to ask,"A nuisance tenant huh?"
Mavis snorted, seeming to feel more comfortable as I asked about it myself. "This place still maintains some of its original tenants, though most of them were booted once I dug up their secrets. The meth bros for one example. I've been trying to boot some of the others, as they're still a problem, and have been known to bother a lot of the newer residents. That number is massively smaller now though, from what I can tell..."
I nodded, making note that although she wanted to get to the point, she was still on edge about who she wanted to talk about. "Hey, I mean I can find out for myself if you don't want to talk about this mystery person," I joked, earning me a friendly smile.
"Nah, I'd rather not leave you in the dark about him, he's a real pain in the ass," she said finally finding her words,"The guys name is Mr. Wilson. That's all he's ever given anyone as far as a name. He is the type of crotchety old man who claims to be this buildings owner. I mean he has come to my office to demand I remove people, he even calls me Secretary Forger. But, because I own the building, I usually approach the renters he's talking about, to find they just aren't doing what he claims. He complains about noise that isn't being made, people parking in his spot when he almost never leaves the apartment building, and even tries saying he's been threatened by tenants that haven't said a word to him. All of this is to say, he hates that he can't control who lives here, he'll try to blame you for anything and everything, and Sophie often gets bitched out for not convincing me to quit so he can hire someone new."
"Sounds like a bitchin good time," I joked, making a mental note to take a picture of my parking spot as well as any others he would try to use as a complaint,"Sounds like a delusional old man, want me to make some notes so you can get him booted?"
Mavis looked surprised, but she got a devilish grin on her face when I asked,"If you can find enough evidence, then please do!"
With that conversation over, Mavis gave me a rundown of all of my immediate neighbors on the floor, one of which was Mr. Wilson. "And a set of 3 roommates live in the apartment next door to you on the left. They've been known to get a bit loud from time to time, but they are hardly ever actually home. I'm assuming they have jobs that require a lot of attention, but who knows. Either way, they aren't super social outside of themselves, and only one of them has ever actually talked with Sophie and I. He's a bit wary, but he's been home alone a lot more lately. Though honestly, I've got respect for the guy, he protected Sophie during Wilson's last outburst."
I smiled, glad to hear that someone aside from Mavis herself had stood up to that nut. "Gonna have to meet him," I said with a smirk.
Mavis nodded, a grin crossing her face,"I think you two would get along...right here are the keys! And, unfortunately...Roman's appliance orders for you haven't arrived yet, so you'll be stuck without them for a bit."
"No worries," I said with a smile,"I've got some money for take out and stuff. So it's fine."
Mavis nodded as I walked inside, all I had to do was open the 2 bags I brought with me, and put things away. It was mostly clothes, a few towels, and some cups and silverware. I sighed, the realization that I would need to by more utensils, and some actual plates at some point. I shook off the minor feeling of dread, and reached back into the bag that previously held my clothes. Then my eyes went wide when I felt a smooth edge. I had told myself whatever dad had left in there, I was going to look at it until I pulled it out. I sighed forcing myself to close my eyes until I couldn't feel the opening of the bag anymore. My eyes opened to reveal a sketch book with a leather cover. I smiled brightly, seeing a set of pencils were slipped inside the book. I really wanted to break it in, but I chose to set it down in the living room. I grabbed my phone, and silently snuck downstairs setting up the camera. Once I got downstairs, I began to take pictures of my parking spot as well as the other parking spots around it. Then I snuck upstairs just missing my next door neighbor walking into his apartment. "Next time then," I muttered, before silently closing my door.
I then grabbed the book from the coffee table in my living room, and found myself excitedly speeding into my new bedroom. I opened the new sketchbook with a fervor, and pulled out the pencil closest to the opening of the book. Then time just passed, I had been drawing for hours, and only now was slowing down to think about what to order out. As the first few options for dinner filled my mind, I heard pounding on the door. "Great," I hissed,"Here we go huh?"
I summoned all the will I could to gently put the sketch book and pencil down. As I advanced toward the door, I heard the banging of his fist get louder and more impatient. I sighed before calling out towards the door,"I'M COMING!"
He could be heard across the kitchen, so no doubt my neighbors could hear him, even from down the hall. When I opened the door, I forced a patient smile and was met with an old man with white hair. He was just slightly shorter than me, and wore wide framed glasses. His dark blue sweater vest and, white dress shirt made his beat red face stand out. "Can I help you sir?" I asked, seeing just how far he would take this.
I vaguely heard one of the doors slightly creak open, before the man, who I could only assume was Mr. Wilson would start his rant.
Pico's POV
I grumbled as I heard Mr. Wilson's routine of banging on the door of the new neighbors. I had hear the new person close their door shortly after I had come home. They even ran to bed, but were otherwise pretty quiet. So when I had finally been asleep for a little while, a rare thing for me, it pissed me off to hear him already on the move. I tiredly, and angrily sat up, ready to threaten that old windbag into submission when I heard a semi familiar voice. "I'M COMING!" They yelled, leading into Mr. Wilson to rant about the youth of today.
I couldn't tell why I was still going to my door, if all I planned to do was watch. As silence hit, I opened the door to see Nova. "What the-", I mouthed when Mr. Wilson boomed with a start.
"Can you help me?!" He boomed, causing me to flinch slightly as I was still waking up,"What is your car doing in my parking space?! I'll have you know that I own this building, and won't put up with level of disrespect from a bitch like you!"
My blood began to boil, wolf girl or not, calling her a bitch was still just wrong. "Do you have a picture of the space as proof?", Nova asked, maintaining a calm and peaceful demeanor.
That confused me, I couldn't understand how she wasn't just yelling at him already. When he pulled out his phone with an image of my car in its space, I wanted to scream. My friends and I had warned him that if he tried to start this shit with us again we would kill him. A bit over the top, but that said, we had meant it in no uncertain terms. "THIS IS MY SPOT YOU BRAIN-!" He started to scream, only to be stopped by Nova with a raised hand.
Nova pulled out her phone while giving him the coldest of looks. I hadn't even noticed her expression change, and apparently neither had Mr. Wilson. "You're Mr. Wilson correct?" She asked only to add,"And I don't want any answer other than to my current question."
I could see Mr. Wilson sputter for a bit, before answering,"Y-yes but-!"
Nova raised her finger this time, waving it from side to side,"Ah! Ah! Ah! Nope, you were only to answer the question, nothing else. That space isn't yours, it's my next door neighbors..."
"No! It's-!" Mr. Wilson tried to talk over, only for Nova to stop him again.
"I wasn't finished Mr. Wilson!" Nova boomed causing the man to flinch as her expression looked almost violent.
The scene almost made me laugh, as Wilson stood there terrified of her. "The number above your door is 182, at that parking spot number is 176!"
She suddenly shoved her phone in his face, her glare becoming venomous as she did, and she began flicking through different images I couldn't see. "NONE OF THESE ARE MINE! NORE ARE THEY YOURS! SO LET ME MAKE THIS PERFECTLY CLEAR, YOU DON'T OWN THE BUILDING! MAVIS ISN'T YOUR SECRETARY! AND IF I FIND YOU HARASSING ME, OR ANYONE ELSE, WITH NO REASON! I'LL MAKE YOUR SORRY LITTLE LIFE A LIVING HELL! Do. You. Understand!"
Mr. Wilson didn't answer, rather he wound his arm back to slap her. I really didn't have to think about what I would do. Standing there wasn't an option, as if she were Nene, I wouldn't have just watched either. Nova seemed to shrink back, something I hadn't expected, but the only reason there was any sound, was because I caught his hand. "Long time no see old man," I said in a cold and blunt tone.
Mr. Wilson went pale, the tension in his arm left as I dropped his mid swing hand. "What do you think you're doing?" I asked with a sadistic smile.
"No-Nothing I..." his voice fell silent as I pointed the an uzi at his head.
"It better have been nothing old man," I hissed coldly, watching as the old man scurried back to his apartment.
"Nice to see you again Pico, and thank you," Nova said kindly, it kind threw me off considering her voice a bit ago.
Though she was someone I didn't quite understand, her thanks was appreciated. "I wouldn't have let him hit a friend of mine, plus now we're even for that stuff at the lab," I replied, kinda expecting her to deny it.
"Honestly, the lab wasn't something you owed me back for," she suddenly said, causing me to pause in my apartment door,"If anything, the Bureau shouldn't have sent you out there. I should have honestly thanked you for killing Dr. Aisling...at any rate I was just doing my job, and you getting killed or hurt would have felt wrong."
We both stood in silence briefly, I didn't understand how this girl could care when she was what she was. Suddenly I heard her sigh, and then add,"It's good if you don't like me, and you don't want to talk, I'll leave you to go back inside."
I turned around a little too late, she had already shuffled back inside. And it left me asking myself why as I closed my door. This girl could turn into a wolf, kill me, or torture me, so why did I feel like what she said was genuine? I shook off the feeling as I dug around in the fridge for something for dinner.
(Time skip because why not lol, also there's another part to this chapter!)
Nova's POV
I had been in this new apartment for over a month, and no longer had to order take out as my appliances were all installed. More often then not, I found myself apologizing to Pico about the noise to him waving it off, and giving me a smile I couldn't quite read. So I was just glad the installation process was over. Though there were some more positive things going on in the background of all the new appliances going in. The group chat that Bf had set up between myself, him, and Girlfriend. So when another day had come and gone at the cafe, I was more than happy to see the 2 of them had tried to reach out to me. "Hey there," I said into my phones microphone, before changing out of the uniform.
Gf: Hey there! Finally done with work?
Bf: You ok? That cafe stays open pretty late doesn't it?
I smiled, outside of work at the Bureau, and occasional conversations with coworkers at cover jobs, like my current one, I didn't really have a normal life or friends. Once I got into one of my new lounging outfits, I finally resumed the conversation with them.
Yeah, but late nights aren't too unusual for me, I'm fine.
Bf: Still...Girlfriend or I could give you a ride home if you ever needed it.
Gf: Honestly, it wouldn't be a big deal!
You guys! -^^-
So what have you been up too? We haven't really talked in a while.
That was what started the 2 of them talking about their relationship. I was honestly surprised at how many times, including this last week, had issues resolved just through some sort of rap battle. I laughed, not really replying until I knew they were finished explaining stuff. The 2 of them could go off on topics for hours at a time, and yet that hardly bothered me.
Bf: Crap! We went into another tangent huh?
Gf: Shit, sorry!
I smiled, nearly laughing at their apologies, before flipping onto my back and replying.
No, no you guys are fine! Honestly, Imma need to sneak out of work early to catch one of these flash rap battles. Ya know my boss won't mind lol!
Bf: Actually, that might be fun...
I stared at the phone screen kinda confused. Boyfriend tended to come up with ideas, and not really think about the fact that he didn't voice said ideas. Though, Girlfriend could surprisingly figure it out without any context, or explanation at all. So as the 3 dot indicator popped up all I did was wait.
Gf: Yeah! We could do some rap battles on a Friday, some friendly competition would be a nice change of pace.
Bf: Yeah, and Nova could see these battles with no strings attached!
Gf: Hey Nova? Do you sing?
I stared at the screen, kinda confused. Not that I minded the idea of seeing the rap battles without putting Boyfriend in unnecessary danger, but I didn't get why it mattered if I could sing. So I humored them, I sat up on the bed and answered.
Yeah, but I don't see why that's important...it's not like I'm the god of music or something lol 😝
The 2 of them started texting at the exact same time, with their texts showing up one immediately after the other. I almost laughed, before reading their messages, the 2 of them were both very like minded when it came to ideas.
Bf: So you could sing with us!
Gf: Can I hear you voice!
Guys I'm not that good, trust me, I'd probably kill the vibe...though I will humor you by singing a little bit for you.
I couldn't quite understand why they wanted me to participate, but I felt uncomfortable with the idea of people I didn't know listening to me sing. I silently scrolled through music trying to find one to sing, when I came across it. Like an old friend echoing from my phone, a smile crossed my face. I put the song on my Dexa before recording part of Fight Song by Rachel Platten.

As the song began, I felt myself forget I was recording. "Like a small boat, on the ocean, sending big waves, into motion. Like how a single word, can make a heart open. I might only have one match, but I can make an explosion."
While the song continued, I kept recording, feeling a wave of confidence as each word left my mouth. And by the final singing of the songs chorus, I felt surprised that I was still recording, but chose to finish strong regardless. "This is my Fight Song!" I cheered, pumping my fist in the air like I was at a rave,"Take back my life song! Prove I'm alright sooooonnnnng! My powers turned, and starting right now I'll be strong! I'll play my fight song! And I don't really care if nobody else believes! Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me! Yeah, I've still got a lot of fight left in me."
Part of me debated even sending the clip at all, but I knew they wouldn't let me live it down if I didn't. One of their more annoying traits, I often joked with myself. I took one last stressed out sigh, before sending the clip into the chat. I had even sat their long enough for me to hear Pico come home. While I waited on them, I hummed lightly, beginning to work on dinner. "Ok," I muttered between humming,"Garlic noodles are always good, but I can make some chili...yeah I'll play around with a mixture of both."
My phone buzzed, as I started cooking, and the notifications started flying in. I nearly laughed out loud at their continuous messages. I opened up the messages while I cooked, only keeping up just barely, but I could...
Bf: Kill the vibe my ass! That was amazing!
Gf: My father heard that from the other room, and said he'd would've scouted you back in the day!
Bf: I get not having confidence, but you have to have sung for someone else at some point...Right?
I hadn't before, to tell you the truth that was one of the few things that kept me sane while at the lab...
The chat went still for a long moment, it was for over an hour, which meant I had time to finish making dinner. Though as soon as I sat down, they had already texted me again.
Bf: You should compete!
Gf: You really should!
I don't know guys, I mean, like I said, I've never sang for anyone, you guys were the first.
Bf and Gf: Please! Please! Please! Please! Please!
The 2 of them kept begging, with me occasionally trying to tell them no, but they just wouldn't quit. Even when I tried to set down my phone and draw, the phone would buzz every few minutes. I sighed, hearing Pico groan in frustration, so I silenced my phone completely just in case it was because of my phone. Then I looked at the phone, seeing them now resorting to send sad emojis. I sighed, knowing that they wanted me to sing even with other people, I cracked. Hearing Pico say what I was typing made me wonder if they were harassing the poor guy to do this friendly competition. I shook my head, almost laughing and then the conversation between us ensued.
Bf: Oh hell yeah!
Gf: This is going to be so much fun!
Hey, keep in mind that I can't bring people in, most of them aren't going to be interested.
Gf: We've got other singers who we can ask to compete, just dress nice!
Bf: Come on, you don't have to put her on the spot Cherry
You both already did that.
Gf: ... sorry we got excited
Bf:
I laughed, only to get back into a a more normal conversation. Meanwhile I checked my schedule, thankful they hadn't scheduled me the day they wanted to do this. I heard Pico sigh, and the smell of weed wafted from his room. I shook my head, kinda getting the desire to want to smoke for the first time...
Pico's POV
Friday seemed to speed toward me, and I had finally made sure all my jobs got done. I still couldn't believe that I had agreed to do this, but I couldn't deny, without the need to worry about a job, singing might actually be more fun this time. I pulled up to the same location I had before, leaving my car behind as I headed to the area by the train tracks. It felt weird that this time, but I was glad that terms were better this time. When I got closer, I felt my hand reach into my pockets as I heard other voices. Mommy Mearest, Daddy Dearest, Skid, Pump, Girlfriend, Boyfriend, and Nova... I was surprised. She was here too. Before I could fully process this, Boyfriend ran over with a bright smile. "Hey there Pico!" He had a bright disposition, which did bring down my tension a bit.
"Hey," I said hi fiving him,"Didn't tell me Nova was coming."
Boyfriends smile dulled, I could tell he felt bad for getting stressed. "I know you might not trust her, but she seems chill," he admitted calmly,"I just wanted her to be able to have some fun."
I smiled, kinda thankful that him inviting her was to give her a chance. "Hey," I said smiling,"We're good."
He brightened up again, and I followed him to meet up with everyone. I watched in a silent tension for a few moments as Nova's words echoed in my mind. "Honestly, the lab wasn't something you owed me back for..."
I still didn't get why she had acted like that, people almost always had a price. But I shook the thoughts from my head, and noted that if things did go wrong, someone would call the cops. With that I felt my tension melt away. Skid and Pump ran up to me to talk which kept my tension down even more...
Nova's POV
Seeing Pico was a shock, until I remembered that I heard him complaining in his apartment earlier in the week. I found myself gripping at my hoodie a bit, it's light purple hue was nice, and the material was soft. I had a black tank top on underneath the unzipped hoodie, and a pair of cargo shorts with black tights underneath. Girlfriend had been calling me all week on and off to pick an outfit for tonight. "You ok Super Nova?" Girlfriend asked, earning a smile from me.
"First off Cherry, I just kinda forgot Pico might be here, and second off I'm pretty sure he doesn't like or trust me," I answered, earning a sad look from Cherry.
"I know Pico is a bit rough around the edges," she said placing a hand on my shoulder in a comforting manner,"And, I heard about what happened from Boyfriend, but I do think you 2 can get along. He took his time to trust me too, so I would just give it time ok?"
I sighed, feeling the tension leave my body as I nodded. Her thoughts on this situation made me feel much better, and gave me hope that I could maybe become friends with him too, at least. It was funny to me, that I wanted friends for the first time in years...before I could think about this more, everyone was walking over to the speakers to find out how the night was going to run.
3rd person POV
As everything settled down, Boyfriend and Girlfriend explained that you'd pull names and that's who you'd be battling. Everyone felt a bit uncomfortable with this but, as soon as they were reminded that this was in good fun, and that Girlfriend would be the judge of each of the battles. People eased up, and as each person walked up to pick a name they ended up getting excited. When Pico and Nova picked their names, they both seemed to freak slightly. That said, they weren't about to argue about it or barter with others. Pico wanted to face her to make sure she was fine, and she wanted to battle Pico to find some common ground... by the time both of them went up for their battle, they both looked really intense.
Nova's POV
When I walked up, I may have been stressed because I was facing a big old crowd, but Pico looked more on edge than me. He was actually holding an Uzi in one hand, and the mic in the other. I noticed Cherry looked a bit concerned, and Blue was just watching cautiously. Everyone went silent, and I noticed that Pico wasn't even starting. I took a breath, not quite sure if I should start it or not, but something told me if I didn't things were just going to maintain the way they were. I nodded at Cherry with a smile, trying not to let my own nerves show, which lead to a calmer more techno sounding beat. Pico seemed to gain focus despite the stress, but nothing came of the sudden change otherwise, so I just began. Every word and tone that left my mouth felt freeing, I even forgot why I was there for a second until Pico started his replies.
Pico's POV
The moment the beat hit my ears I was pulled away briefly from the stresses, then I just couldn't find words. I was just surprised her eyes were still glowing even after the song started, but nothing came to mind. When she started the song, I was a bit thrown off guard, her voice followed the techno beat with a calming melodic smoothness. It was after these few lyrics, and her seeming to relax that I found proper responses. She seemed to be surprised when I jumped in, and a part of me felt bad for breaking her free from her own little world.
3rd Person POV
Throughout each of the songs, they gained a synchrony, the first song breaking the ice for both of them. The 2 them by the end were actually having fun, even making occasional riff on each other. When the songs ended, even with it ending in a tie, the 2 of them were more confident then they had started. "You have a good voice," Nova suddenly said as everyone was already talking in separate small duos.
Pico looked at her kinda surprised, but smiled,"You do too."
Nova sighed, kinda seeming like she didn't fully believe it. "You know I said that because I was being sincere right?" Pico asked giving her a look.
"I know," she replied,"I just don't believe it myself. Sounds stupid right?"
Pico looked at her, still surprised that she had more to her. "You're full of surprises aren't you?" Pico asked, leaning his back against the wall nearest too them.
"Is that because I'm more than just a tough ass, and have range of emotions," Nova said as a partial joke,"Or that I am a human, and not just a scary wolf?"
Pico laughs, noticing her smile. He sighs, after they stood their for a bit longer Pico decides to ask,"How come you care, being what you are?"
Nova looked up at him, kinda surprised by the question. "I didn't ask to be a manufactured werewolf," she started,"I wasn't born this way, and I hate myself because of it. I was surprised that I had that level of control when I got Blue out of the way. All this is to say, I care because no one should have had to go through that, and you didn't deserve to get dragged into it. The reason you didn't owe me, is I wouldn't have asked the Bureau to send you out there. It's my past, why should anyone else get dragged into it?"
Pico found himself watching her, before placing a hand on her shoulder, he wondered if he overstepped his boundaries. When their eyes met, they seemed to find an odd kinship. "I'll have to work on not questioning everything you do," Pico joked, earning a laugh from Nova.
"Hey, no, I'd have to explain myself at some point," Nova admitted,"Take your time, I don't want to force your hand."
Pico nodded, and eventually everyone went home...
AN: Ok, so I realized that this chapter drags towards the ending, and I've realized that certain things I wrote are probably a bit drawn out. I'm sorry, though I do like how some of this is going, and hopefully you do too! Remember to keep on keeping on, and I'll see you in chapter 5!
