Gumball sniffed as he sat on the bottom of the stairs, ears low, knees tucked in as he had his arms wrapped around them tightly.
He quietly let out a whimper as he watched his mother, who was sitting on the sofa, deep in thought. She looked both annoyed but also hurt as she sat there in silence.
He felt his eyes welling up as the guilt continued to grow, for you see it was his fault she was as hurt and upset as she currently was.
Earlier that day the two of them had ended up getting into a pretty bad argument with each other and Gumball, in the heat of the moment, had ended up snapping at and insulting her, saying some pretty hurtful things he really hadn't meant.
After he had she'd just looked at him with the same painful look of hurt on her face before silently walking away, and she'd refused to speak to him at all ever since.
He'd tried apologizing to her already but she hadn't said a word, or even looked at him. She'd just completely ignored him.
He could feel the pit in his stomach open the second he had finished his outburst, and it had only grown worse when she'd walked away. He felt horrible for insulting her like he had, especially at Christmas.
He sighed. There had to be something he could do to make it up to her, but what?
He thought about what to do as he looked around for inspiration and eventually his eyes landed on the cupboards in the kitchen. Mom had only been shopping a few days ago so there should be plenty of ingredients in there for him to make something for her.
He smiled weakly as he thought back to when he was younger. He'd used to make cookies with her every Christmas. He'd always make such a mess, but she'd never seemed to mind and had just been glad that he was having so much fun.
As he thought more about it, he realized they would be the perfect thing to make for her. Though he'd never tried it on his own he was sure he could remember the recipe.
Just those alone though wouldn't be special enough...he had to do something else...
As he continued to think, he kept returning to his memories of them making cookies together, as suddenly a brilliant idea popped into his head.
He began to smile. Yes, it'd be perfect! She would be sure to love it, he knew she would!
He excitedly got up and headed to the kitchen to put his plan into motion.
Two hours later and they were finally ready. Luckily his mother hadn't paid any attention to what he was doing in the kitchen, being too deep in her thoughts and not wanting to pay any attention to him at the moment, so she hadn't questioned what he was doing or tried to stop him.
He sheepishly walked over and cleared his throat. "H-Hey Mom. I'm...I'm really sorry about what I said to you earlier. I...I really didn't mean it, honestly..."
She made a glance at him but then immediately looked away again.
"I...I made something for you to apologize, something that I hope might cheer you up a bit..."
He placed down a plate of cookies, vaguely in the shape of Christmas Trees, Snowmen, and Gingerbread Men, poorly decorated with icing.
"I...I hope you like them...I put a lot of effort into them..."
She still didn't respond so he just looked down with a sniff and walked over to the stairs, hoping she would try them and see his surprise.
She glanced down and contemplated what to do with the cookies before her. Eventually, she sighed picked one up, and ate it, before looking out of the window as she returned to her thoughts.
His ears and face as he realized she wasn't going to see his surprise, and so his efforts had all been in vain.
He sniffed and held back tears as he got up and hurriedly walked out to the garden, not wanting anyone to see him cry.
As he left she glanced back over at him and saw him walking away with his head low, as tears begin to trickle down his face.

She sighed and went to pick up another cookie but stopped as she noticed what looked like a blue paw underneath where the previous cookie had been.
Confused, she moved the rest of the cookies out of the way.
She gasped softly at what was revealed, covering her mouth as she began to tear up and smile weakly.
Underneath the cookies, taped to the plate, was a drawing of their younger selves baking cookies together, and underneath a message was written:
'To the most amazing Mom ever. I hope these cookies reminded you of simpler times and cheered you up just as much as they did for me when I was making them. Making cookies is such a simple, basic memory, but it's one I treasure a lot, and I hope you do too. Love you so much.
-Gummypuss.'
She sniffed as she began to cry softly at the drawing before slowly looking up and glancing toward the back door in thought.
Meanwhile, Gumball was sitting on the back door steps, crying into his paws.
His plan to get his Mother to forgive him had failed. She was going to be mad at him for who knows how long...and at Christmas too, the time they're meant to feel the closest...
He sniffed and wiped his nose when he suddenly saw a blue paw hold out a cookie for him.
Confused he looked up and saw his mother sitting next to him, offering him a cookie as she herself ate one. "Want one?"
"M-Mom...?" He asked confused.
She smiled. "I saw your drawing."
"You did!? Do...do you like it?" He asked quietly.
"No, I love it! It was incredibly thoughtful of you and it's going to go straight on the fridge!"
"Really?" He asked with a sniff.
She nodded and he began to smile weakly.
"Now, do you want this cookie or not? This... melting snowman isn't gonna eat himself!" She joked.
He noticed a side of the cookie had deformed, making it look like the side of the snowman's head was melting, which made him chuckle.
His smile grew as he took the cookie, beginning to eat it. "I'm sorry they turned out so poorly. I tried my best with them..."
She smiled and ruffled the fur on his head. "Awww, you don't need to apologize. It was the thought that counts. Besides, we can always just give the rest to your father!" She joked, which made him giggle.
He finished his cookie and sniffed. "W-What about the message I left...o-o-on the drawing...? D-Did you see that?" He asked.
She nodded. "I did. And I love you too. She smiled.
"S-So...so do you forgive me?" He asked quietly, his ears lowering as his eyes grew wide and he gave her a pleading look that made her heart melt.
"Oh, sweetheart...of course I do!"
His face lit up with an adorable smile of delight and she noticed his tail begin to stand up and sway happily behind him.
"Awwww, come here you!" She chuckled and held out her arms and he accepted, hugging her lovingly.
He sniffed again and let out a quiet whimper of guilt as he felt tears streaming down his face again. "I'm really sorry! *sniff* I didn't mean what I said, really I didn't, I swear!"
She began to stroke the back of his head as she hugged him back tightly and lovingly. "Awwww, honey...It's okay, I know you didn't mean it, and I know that you really are sorry, and I am too. I shouldn't have ignored you like that. All it did was make us both feel worse."
He smiled and began to purr as he rested his head on her shoulder. "It's okay. I'm just glad you're happy again."
"Awww, Gumball..." She smiled and purred back as she nuzzled him, making him giggle.
"I love you, Mom..." He looked up and smiled at her.
"I love you too Gummypuss." She smiled back.
The two continued to hug, purring away together as they finally made up.
After a while, they finally released each other. His mother smiled at him again and a cheeky grin began to slowly form on his face as he thought of something.
"It's a good thing you did forgive me..." He informed her.
"Oh? Why's that?" She raised her eyebrow.
"because you won't be frowning anymore..."
"Awwww..."
"...l mean, you already have enough wrinkles as it is!" He broke into a fit of giggles, covering his mouth with his paws.
She made a fake gasp of insult before grinning and throwing a snowball at him.
He began to laugh even harder as he threw one back at her.
They continued this back and forth until the two found themselves in fits of laughter as they ran around the garden in a snowball fight together, completely forgetting about their earlier argument, just happy to have each other's company again.
