After following the blood trail for another couple of minutes they began to finally faintly hear a voice calling for help.
"Jamie?! Is that you!?" Anais called outa s her face began to light up.
"Yeah!"
"Where are you!?" She looked around.
"Over here, in the cave!" Jamie called out.
"This way!" Anais pointed. They all ran over and arrived at the cave, and found that the entrance was completely caved in with large rocks.
"Jamie?!"
"Anais is that you?!" Jamie's muffled voice called from inside the cave.
"Yes, it's me, and everyone else! We're here to rescue you! What happened?"
"I was on my way out of the forest when a creature jumped out at me. I ran and wasn't looking where I was going, and I ended up catching my arm on a branch that was sticking out and cut it pretty badly."
Anais' face fell. "Yeah, we saw that on the way! We followed your trail of blood here! A-Are you okay now?!" She asked worriedly.
"Just about. I tried to find the way out and then the storm began. It got pretty dark and I couldn't see where I was going, and I ended up stumbling on a rock, landed awkwardly, and sprained my ankle. By then the storm had gotten really bad so I decided to limp over to this nearby cave and wait it out but it got worse and lightning struck above and dislodged a bunch of rocks which caved in the exit."
"Don't worry, I got this." Carrie cracked her knuckles and took a deep breath. She closed her eyes and concentrated, before opening her eyes, which were now glowing, and using her telekinesis to move all of the rocks at once and move them out of the way and free her.
They cheered, and Anais ran up and hugged her as she began to cry softly,
"I was so worried!"
"It's okay, I'm alright. Thanks for rescuing me." She hugged her back.
"I couldn't have done it without everyone here. It was a team effort."
"Really? Uh, t-thanks everyone. I didn't think you'd care..." She looked down.
"You're our friend, of course we do." Molly smiled.
Jamie smiled back. "Thank you. That...that means a lot."
She tried to walk but gasped in pain and fell to her knees.
"Woah, easy! Your arm is hurt pretty badly, and your ankle is very swollen. Here, let me patch you up." Teri smiled and sat Jamie down, before taking out a bandage.
"Do you really carry a bandage with you everywhere you go?" Carmen asked.
"Of course! You never know when you'll need one!"
She crouched down and professionally bandaged up the wound on Jamie's arm then used some nearby branches and leaves to make a makeshift brace for her ankle.
"There, that'll support your ankle. You might need some help to walk though."
"Here, I found this!" Anais ran over and handed her a large stick to use as a crutch.
"Thanks." Jamie took it and turned to Teri. "How'd you know how to do all that?"
"Well, when your mom is a doctor you learn quite a lot..." She smiled.
Jamie chuckled. "Good to know someone knows what they're doing!"
Everyone except Masami began to laugh, who instead just looked annoyed.
"Okay, we found Jamie, now can we get the heck out of here and out of this storm!" She snapped.
They nodded and began their journey back out.
"Ugh, I can't believe we wasted all that time just because you didn't want to get wet!" Masami moaned to Jamie.
"I don't care about getting wet! I was injured, I needed somewhere safe to rest!" Jamie argued back.
"Then maybe you should have looked where you were going!" She stopped moving and glared at Jamie.
"It was dark, and a creature was chasing me! I didn't have time to pause and look at my surroundings!"
"You're supposed to be the brute, you should've just fought the creature off or something!"
A lightning bolt struck near them and they jumped back, not noticing that it had set the base of the nearby tree on fire.
"I'm not a brute anymore! That's not who I am! It's never been who I am! I was...I was just scared of what people would think of me, alright!?" She spoke quietly towards the end, looking down.
"What!? You expect me to believe that!"
"It's true! I never wanted to bully any of you, I never wanted to hurt you I just...I just wanted people to like me, and I had tried so hard, but nothing I did worked...I didn't know what to do..." She teared up.
"and that makes it okay for you to bully us!?"
"NO, I..."She sighed in frustration. "I only did that because I was so angry and frustrated at myself. For being such a failure, for being so stupid I couldn't even make a single friend. She began to cry softly. "and I ended up taking out the frustration and anger on all of you. I lashed out, hurt you all, and insulted you, and I hate myself for doing so. All I wanted was to make friends and all I did was actively make it worse for myself by pushing you all away!" She punched a tree in frustration.
"Wow, Jamie..." Carmen began.
"I had no idea..." Teri frowned.
Masami floated down. "I...I don't know what to say...I...I'm sorry..."
Suddenly Jamie heard a snap and looked behind Masami to see the base of the tree behind her had completely burnt away. The tree creaked as it began to fall toward her.
She gasped. "MASAMI LOOK OUT!"
Masami, confused, turned to see what she was looking at, and her eyes widened in horror as she saw the tree falling toward her.
Jamie ran forwards in slow motion, ignoring the pain of her ankle, and shoved Masami out of the way, the tree falling on top of her instead.
Everyone gasped horrified.
Anais stood there stunned, beginning to shake before she let out a gut-wrenching scream.
"JAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMIEIIIEEEEEEEEEEE!"
She began to sob painfully into Penny's chest. Penny wrapped her arms around her as she too was shaking, eyes widening and welling up.
Masami silently stared at the tree horrified, guilt and dread filling her.
Everyone stood there stunned and silent before they suddenly heard Jamie coughing. She suddenly crawled out from under the leaves, which had luckily fallen on top of her rather than the actual trunk of the tree, which had just missed her, and thus she was relatively unharmed apart from a few bruises and cuts, and her ankle hurting even more.
Anais ran over and hugged her tightly as she began to sob. "I-I-I THOUGHT...I THOUGHT YOU WERE...D-D.D-D..." She couldn't even finish her sentence as she began to sob more.
"No, it's okay, it's alright, I'm fine." She assured her. She found herself hugging Anais back and beginning to stroke the back of her head.
Everyone else sighed in relief and began to praise her, saying things like "Jamie that was amazing!" and "Wow, Jamie that was incredible!"
"Oh my...oh my god...y-y-you...you saved my life...you...you could have died! Thank you so much! And err...s-sorry for shouting at you..." She rubbed the back of her head, feeling guilty about moaning and shouting at her as she had.
"I-I-It's okay, you're welcome.." She smiled.
Another lighting bolt struck a little further away. "Guys, come on, you can apologies later, we need to get out of here!" Carmen called out.
They nodded and all hurried out of the forest and back to the treehouse as fast as they could, Anais refusing to let go of Jamie the entire way back.
