So I am moving things along quite quickly now to get to the part where Renegade meets the YJL, so if the chapters feel a little rushed then that would be the reason. Still searching for a beta since Succubi has now started her own projects and I have been starting a few others as well, all of which you will start to see either on FF, AO3 or Wattpad where our Original Work will be going, we have also decided to include some of those works on AO3 with the smut added in.

Back to this story, I am still on the fence about how to make the romance between Dick and Wally work and the only thing that fits into my story is if I somehow have Wally either join Dick as a merc which I don't really like for the story or if I just have Wally lose hope in being a hero and quitting to be with Dick. Thoughts on this would really be welcome because I didn't really plan out the romance part of the story as well as I did the rest of it. Also enjoy some different perspectives, and I know that I might have messed up the characters but hey I don't know DCU much.

We don't own anything; if we did life would have been much more entertaining.

Chapter 3

Pinning a Bird

Being away for so long I would have thought that the city would have changed, but unlike the rest of the world Gotham seemed to be stuck somewhere between cesspool and gloom and doom. It was a city with history sure, but none of it all that good either because like other cities with heroes living there it repeated the same sad song that left the innocents to suffer and the heroes to profit from it all. My own personal view never pained the cape wearing idiots in a good light and it wasn't just because of what Batman had done either, no my Master made sure to show me what all of the heroes were really and it didn't help make them seem any better in my eyes.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Selina asked me bringing me out of my internal rant, both of us sanding on the roof across from Arkham, "My plan needs him free for a day or two before I can act against him, otherwise I'll have a bat sniffing around me sooner then I want" I didn't want to free the mad man either but it was the best way of completing my contracts without having Batman getting in my way or his little pet for that matter, I was pissed about that little pet of his using the name my mother used to call me.

The Joker was the last of my kill contracts here in Gotham, and it didn't bother me that my Master sent me after him, in fact I would have slit his throat regardless because he hurt my family. Snorting as I thought about how sort lived the clowns happiness will be and how he wouldn't even know how he was about to escape. Looking at the building I took a breath and said, "Zeta, begin plan Walk Out" a single soft beep from my com in my left ear told me that my own little pet did what I told it to. Selina looked at me with a raised eyebrow, "What did you just do?" she asked, she must've thought that I was going to break in there to get the clown out but it wasn't my style. I was more the type to never get caught or even seen, I mean why would I want to give someone a chance to learn something about me. I didn't like leaving information about myself behind, but I loved knowing everything about other people though, know your enemy and all that.

"Letting people see me isn't my style, so I created my own way of doing my job" even my Master thought that my way of doing things was out there, but I preferred to stay a ghost so that I can haunt people when needed and still have a life outside of this job something I really wanted because I had heard all about my Masters life and I didn't want to make the same mistakes. "I wrote a program that will allow the Joker, or anyone in whichever cell I specify to simply walk out. Every door will open for them and every camera will loop so that they go unnoticed, every guard will be diverted from their path if they carry radios or phones. I could be on the other side of the world and let anyone out of any prison or building as long as its computer operated which Arkham is thanks to Batman, or rather Bruce Wayne" she was clearly impressed or more then likely shocked by my words so I decided to shock her a little more, "The best part is that there won't even be a line of code left for anyone to find and follow" I knew among my three sisters that Selina was the one who wouldn't truly accept my new life, and now that she saw the ease with which I could do my job with just a few words she would maybe even fear me. That would be sad but understandable since I sometimes scared myself with how quickly I took to this lifestyle.

The camera at the door the Joker was being herded to told me that he had passed through thanks to Zeta giving me a quick picture of him doing just that so it was time for us to go as the program removed itself from the buildings systems, "It's done" I said before turning back towards the car and driver Harley got me, "No questions and a lot of money" was what she said when I asked about the bulky man. I wasn't worrying about him not asking questions or talking to people about any of this either… my Master taught me that there was only one way to truly keep a secret, so the man might as well serve a purpose after he drove us back to the apartment. I really scared myself sometimes too with how easily I can just kill someone I deemed useless to my cause or just a criminal, it was either or with me; pay me enough and there wasn't much of anything I would do.

Batman POV

Gordon called me about a murder on the roof of the GCPD, I don't know what I was expecting but what I saw wasn't it. The man was impaled on what looked like a street sign with a calling card I knew all too well stapled to his lips which were close in the same crude fashion. "The Joker, isn't he locked up?" I asked as I stepped from the shadows, Gordon didn't even look my way when he answered, "I just got off of the phone with Arkham and he wasn't in his cell and no one knows how he escaped" we both watched as his men did their work.

"We already ran his prints, he worked for the Joker. Used to be one of his drivers who got him caught a year ago" I narrowed my eyes as I connected the dots, "He must have picked him up after he broke out of Arkham and then got killed to silence him" Gordon continued as I focused more on the sign he was impaled on which didn't sit right with me. "It doesn't feel like the Joker did this, and after the way the mayor and those cops were killed I don't think we can rule out someone else" Gordon spared me a look I had seen too many times in my life 'figure this out and fast'.

I turned around and left while thinking about the dead ends I have been running into on those two other cases, they were just too clean to be anything other then professional hits, "Robin, I need you to scout out the old warehouse area" I didn't wait for his reply as I made my way from roof to roof to clear my mind. Something has been happening in Gotham the last few days, it was like someone was toying with me, like someone was whispering in my ear so softly that I couldn't hear them but still felt their breath on my skin. It was beginning to drive me mad and made it feel like the times the Joker would play his little games with me, but still something about this was different but I couldn't put my finger on it. There was only one other person who could toy with me this way, but I didn't want to think about him being back in Gotham because it never ended well.

"Alfred I need you to check and see if you can find anything that might tell us where Deathstroke is at the moment" I waited on a roof near the center of Gotham for Alfred to get back to me which shouldn't take too long, thirty minutes was the limit in this case which meant that Deathstroke was active enough to follow but not track easily. "He doesn't seem to be in the country at the moment, but I have found some reports saying that he was spotted working with someone else dressed similar to him" the news didn't settle this feeling I had that something bad was going to happen, "I also have reports here of some mob bosses dying a few days ago from natural causes" and still his words made me worry. This was beginning to feel like an assassin taking out targets, but if it was then for whom were they taking these targets out for.

Static came over the com and I stilled, a tapping came through which my mind translated from Morse code before the laugh that I had heard too many times in my life came over the com. 'Thanks for the bird batsy', my eyes went wide, "Alfred get me Robin's location" I said before jumping into action.

Robin/Jason POV

Something was up, Batman was all but yelling it when he told me to scout this area and for the past few days he was walking around with this look on his face like something was troubling him but I doubt he knew what it was, like an itch that didn't go away. This was the last roof I would normally land on before making my way to the warehouses which the guy standing before me seemed to have known, the feeling that I just landed right in a trap came quickly and made me survey the area to make sure I wasn't outnumbered. "The bat seems to be getting sloppy if he sent you here alone" his cold voice sent a shiver down my spine as he watched me through his mask, a flash of red told me that whoever this was he wasn't a normal person, because red eyes weren't normal.

"So another new freak moved to Gotham, and I get to be the one to take you down for the first time, lucky me" I said smirking trying to play off how nervous I am, the guy didn't seem bothered as I got into my stance to take him down quickly just in case he wasn't really alone. "As I said, sloppy" his cold voice said as he slipped two escrima sticks out from holsters on behind his back, "Try to amuse me some more bat pet" the name made me see red as I threw two of my rangs at him and charge to close the distance, I quickly realised that it was a mistake and I was playing right into his hands. He knocked one of my rangs away and somehow hit the other one in a way that sent it flying back at me, it caught me on my right arm which distracted me for barely a second but it was long enough for him to close the distance himself and hit me in my right ribs breaking a few and then the hit on my left temple sent me to the floor with the world spinning and becoming fuzzy. He was good, much better then I was and it showed with how easy it had been for him to send me to the ground.

"I expected more, so much more from someone trained by Batman. I guess I overestimated you and considered you a threat when you clearly aren't. At least you'll work as a message so you should be proud that you are considered as useful as a piece of paper little bat pet" my anger grew with each word he spoke which must have been a part of his plan, my hand went for the staff Batman had been training me in as I got up on wobbly legs to face this asshole hoping that I could at least land a hit, "I'm not done yet bastard" I seethed through my teeth as I attacked out of anger, but like before he deflected and blocked like it was nothing to him which it most likely was. "Your form is horrible, you have zero skill or talent with your weapons" he said as he knock the staff from my hands into the air, "and you let your emotions control you" the coldness of his voice barely got to me before he roundhoused me into the wall of the door that led to the stairs down from the roof knocking the wind out of me.

I lift my head as the world became dark only to see him catch my staff with one of his escrima sticks balancing it perfectly, "You will die if you keep wearing that outfit little bat pet" he said still sounding amused before tipping his weapon upwards sending my staff into the air again. I activated my tracker before my staff came down again… it happen in slow motion as he jumped and kicked the end of my staff and sent it at me with enough force to impale me to the wall behind me, the pain from my right shoulder made me scream while the taste of blood filled my mouth.

He walked up to me as I struggled to breath, "Don't worry little bat pet, you won't die. You will get close though but you have no one" he leaned in close until his cold mask pressed against my cheek "to blame but the bat for giving you that name and outfit" were the last words I heard before a pain in my stomach knocked my breath from me and sent me into the darkness that was consuming me.

Richard/Renegade POV

I didn't want to believe the reports my Master had shown me about Robin, I didn't want to think that Alfred had betrayed my trust and told Bruce what I had confided in him. The old man had promised me he would take what we talked about to the grave, but he clearly lied which honestly I shouldn't be surprised about because that's all people do when you give them your trust.

I toss the com I got from the kid to the side along with the joker card I taped to it before leaving, I didn't want to face Batman just yet, he had his stage set up for him now and he will play the roll I cast him for now that his little pet was left as a bloodied arrow pointing him right where I wanted him to go. "Zeta, prepare message for Master" I said as I focussed on getting as far away from Robin as I could. "Master, I should finish my contracts in the next two to three days and be ready to leave for my next trial in five days. I will await you at the location. Zeta send message" I really did love my dear little Zeta. It was the first program I wrote while I studied coding and programming, it was my own edge that put me above everyone else since it was a one of a kind AI that I still added on to. Zeta was my partner and because it was what it was I could trust it with my life, it would be the one thing on earth that will always hold my complete trust because it couldn't betray me.

Two quick soft dings told me I had a message, "Zeta, open message" I said as I got to my bike where it was parked by the water front. "Apprentice, I am glad to hear that you are dealing with your tasks swiftly. I will meet you at the agreed location to begin your next phase of training, until then stay safe and don't underestimate the bat, he has more tricks up his sleeves then the people he calls villains" he knew all too well how tricky Batman was to deal with, he did study him and all the others of the League extensively. Sitting on his bike he collected himself, if everything goes well then he can bring Batman and Joker together tomorrow night then fit in his little heist before going back to the apartment to finish up the escort job all in one night, or maybe he could get the escort job out of the way first and use it to unhinge the bat some more.

"Zeta, set and begin job green glow, time 23:30" a soft beep told him the order was carried out which once again made him glad that Zeta had taken up his free time during all those years of training Master gave him. He was planning on completing Zeta during the next two years of training that his Master had planned for him so that when he started taking real contracts and not these training ones that he will be ready to deal with any foe no matter who he faced.

It made me oddly happy having Renegade pin Robin to that wall, yeah I am not a Jason Todd fan much. That being said I find that I might be open to having them have a little run in sometime in the future where Jason is pinned in another more steamy way if you catch mu meaning. Renegade will be starting on his real contracts soon enough so if you have any you might want to float his way let us know. Thanks for reading and sticking with this story.
