Author's note: I mainly use movies to write the chapters. I'm just trying to fill up until Voldemort get resurrected, because that's when it will get interesting again.

Harry Potter and the Vulkens Chapter 4 The chamber of secrets

November 30th, 1992

After her dinner, no students went to see her, so she took that opportunity to go see Myrtle. Students were in their common rooms, or the library and she encountered just a few ones in the corridors. She pushed the door of the bathroom she had gone only once while at Hogwarts.

There was a cauldron with a potion slowly bubbling in between the stalls with ingredients around it. She recognized it right away as being a Polyjuice potion being brewed. She remembered Severus saying someone had been stealing ingredients from his stash and she wondered what to do with that information. She could just place spells alerting her whenever someone entered in here, then go see for herself to catch them.

She could think of a hundred reasons why someone would use Polyjuice, all dangerous from one another and breaking many school rules. Myrtle was not there at the time, so she could not ask her anything but if she died here, perhaps she could simply speak some of the words in Parseltongue she knew and see what happens.

''Open.'' Hissed Ruma.

She gasped as the sinks began to move right in front of her, making a two-meters wide entrance. She stepped near the edge, looking down and wondered how someone could go down without having to jump in. She could not remember how to say 'Stairs' in Parseltongue, but as she thought about going down, she heard the Basilisk from down below. She quickly disillusionned herself and went to hide in the furthest stall. She also placed runes that hid her smell and presence, then stood still as the snake almost silently made his way out of the pipes and out of the bathroom.

Ruma was sitting on the floor, holding her legs against her chest and began to sob. She hoped the basilisk would not be able to kill any students again.

''I want blood. They all must die. Kill. Kill. Kill. Time to kill.''

After just a few minutes, she heard again the basilisk go down the pipes and the sinks closing behind him. She let out an exhale she had been holding. She thought that if a boggart would appear in front of her, it would definitely take the shape of a basilisk. She does not know how long she had stayed hiding, but when she could move her legs again, she went directly to the Headmaster's office. She encountered Hagrid going out of the office with a dead rooster in his hands.

''Hagrid! How many roosters are left?'' Asked Ruma.

''Oh… tha' would be the last one that lived… I'll have tuh get some more in the spring.'' Said Hagrid.

No more roosters to kill the basilisk. She nodded and said good-bye before entering the office where Harry was talking with Albus.

''Is there something you wish to tell me?'' Asked Albus to Harry.

Harry looked at Ruma and she saw a storm of questions behind his eyes, but he looked again at Albus then shook his head.

''No, Sir. Nothing.'' Answered Harry.

Dumbledore nodded.

''Very well, then. Off you go.'' Said the Headmaster.

Harry turned around and greeted Ruma as he went out. Ruma eyed Fumseck on his perch, noticing he had just been reborn.

''Was there… did someone die?'' Asked Ruma.

''Fortunately, no. But the ghost Nicholas got petrified and another muggleborn student was also petrified as he looked through the ghost.'' Said Dumbledore.

''Oh, thank god.'' Said Ruma as she closed her eyes in relief. ''I… I know where the entrance of the chamber is, but I doubt this will be any helpful.'' She shivered as the fear gripped her again.

''You saw the basilisk, did you?'' Asked Dumbledore as he looked at her intensely.

''More like hid from it. In the bathroom… I knew it was coming and I hid… I hid my entire presence from it… scared beyond anything I could have thought I could be… Hagrid just told me the last of his rooster was killed. How exactly would you even think we could do to get this school rid of that monster?'' Asked Ruma.

''I'm so sorry, Ruma.'' Said Albus as he moved towards her, wanting to place a reassuring hand on her but she stepped away and shook her head.

''We need to send the students back home!'' Said Ruma.

''It is not up to me… you know the board of governors won't close the school until something dramatic happens. We can try to protect the students in the meantime and hope to catch the culprit this time.'' Said Albus.

Flustered, Ruma left the office without telling him she had seen something else in that bathroom.

December 30th, 1992

Regulus yawned as he waited for his friend Draco to come back in the common room with his two goons. They had the common room for themselves, but it was never loud to start with, so the only nice thing was to get the better sofas the older years used to sit in. His godmother had told him to be careful in the corridors and never be alone since a basilisk was roaming around. He had protested saying he was a pureblood, and he would probably never be a target anyway, but she was adamant into at least carry a mirror with him at all times. He heard the door open, followed by Draco and his two lackeys. Draco sat down beside him, and the two others just stood there dumbly in front of them.

''Well, sit down.'' Said Malfoy.

Crabbe and Goyle sat down and looked around them as if the room was new. Regulus frowned at the weird behavior.

''You'd never know the Weasleys were pure-bloods, the way they behave.'' Sneered Draco. ''They are an embarrassment to the wizarding world, all of them.''

Crabbe's hands turned into fists.

''What's wrong with you, Crabbe?'' Asked Draco.

Goyle nudged Crabbe's arm.

''Stomachache.'' Answered Crabbe.

''Draco, stop that fixation on blood, it gets annoying.'' Said Regulus. ''Your father knows it's bullshit, and yet he keeps placing that blood supremacy in your mind.''

''Everything is about blood! Mudbloods are going to be our demise someday! At least, someone is doing something in this school!'' Said Draco. ''Don't say the contrary, you think like that too.''

Regulus had hissed at the word 'Mudblood'.

''Drake, stop saying that damn word. Ruma has proven a thousand times that even muggleborns are descendants from wizards. But yes… they can be a threat, I know. Ruma was born and raised with vampire and goblins, and she was the only one to be lucky.'' Said Regulus.

''How are they a threat?'' Asked Goyle.

Regulus looked at him weirdly again.

''You can't be that dumb, Greg. Every wizards knows muggles are an extreme threat to us because of their sheer numbers and if we are not prepared when the time comes that our world is revealed, we are all going to be exterminated. Muggleborns are raised with muggles, where it is dangerous when they refuse their child to be… special.'' Said Regulus.

''Ya, Greg, just how many times did you father tell you that anyway, three or four times?'' Asked Draco with a laugh. ''So, anyway, I'm surprised it has not been in the Daily Prophet yet… those attacks.''

''Pft, they are trying to hush it all up, but the board of governors is not any better since no deaths were reported… yet.'' Said Regulus.

''If the heir succeeds into murdering mud… muggleborns, well, I hope it's Granger.'' Said Draco as he looked at Black.

Crabbe seemed angry again, but Goyle hushed him again.

''So, you don't know who the heir is?'' Asked Goyle.

Now Regulus was really suspicious at yet another question that had been asked by him the day before.

''You know I don't, Goyle. I told you yesterday,'' Said Draco as he stood up and went to a nearby table to take a small box that looked like a gift. ''How many times do I have to tell you?'' Draco took the box and placed it in his pocket. ''But my father did say this: it's been 50 years since the chamber was opened. He wouldn't tell me who opened it. Only that they were expelled. The last time the chamber of Secrets was opened, a mudblood died.''

Regulus had stayed silent at the word again because he was too busy watching Crabbe and Goyle. Draco was distracted by the little box in his pocket that he had taken and was beginning to open it. Crabbe avoided Regulus's stare and stood up along with Goyle. They never took decisions by themselves, and Regulus finally had his suspicions confirmed when he saw a lightning bolt-shape scar appearing on Goyle's forehead. Regulus stood up and smiled evilly.

''Saint Potter using Polyjuice to get information out of Slytherins. You better run, scarhead.'' Hissed Regulus quietly, his wand pointing at them by his side.

Crabbe and Goyle gasped then ran away.

''Hey! Where are you going?'' Asked suddenly Draco, who had not heard what Regulus said.

When the two goons had left, Regulus crossed his arms and shook his head.

''Draco… that was not Goyle and Crabbe.'' Said Regulus.

''What?'' Asked Draco. ''What do you mean? They were acting odd…''

''Yea… that was Potter and Weasley under Polyjuice. I wonder if Granger was behind it all, and why she was not with them.'' Said Regulus.

''What? Polyjuice! But that's a freaking hard potion to make! Only a skilled… oh, damn Granger.'' Said Draco before hitting the table with a fist.

Regulus laughed as Draco was frustrated, not because he was fooled, but because someone was better than him in Potions.

''If they wanted to know about the heir, well, they got served. And it's not like anyone could stomach the information if they knew.'' Said Regulus as he sat again the sofa, his wand back in his sleeve. He looked at Draco who had a round candy that had been in the box he took from the table. ''You better not eat that. That's from the Weasley twins and you are going to have your ass on fire for a few days if you eat it.''

Draco made a scared face and threw the candy in the garbage beside the table.

''So, you do know who's the heir and you still refuse to tell me.'' Whined Draco.

''Tsk, if you used your brain a little better, you could already guess the one person in the whole world who could be Slytherin's heir. If you forget that Potter is a Parselmouth, who would be the other one, hmm?'' Asked Regulus.

Draco's face showed confusion and he thought for a while. Regulus raised an eyebrow at his friend's reaction, then Draco paled slightly before speaking again.

''You can't mean… You-Know-Who?'' Asked Draco.

Regulus nodded as the real Crabbe and Goyle arrived in the common room, looking disoriented.

''Looks like your real bodyguards are back.'' Said Regulus with a grin.

May 9th, 1993

No petrification had happened for several months, and it had brought relief from the staff. But, as the Quidditch match between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff was about to start, Professor McGonagall went to see the Gryffindor team and tell the captain Woods that the match was canceled and to return to the common room. Two other students had been petrified and new rules, as well as a curfew, were set to protect the students.

The ministry intervened, wanting a culprit to reassure the population, and went to bring Hagrid to Azkaban due to what happened fifty years ago. Anton followed the minister, Cornelius Fudge, on Hogwarts grounds, making their way to the half-giant's house. They were joined by the Headmaster who knocked on the door. Hagrid opened it, his crossbow ready to fire, but brought it down as he saw Dumbledore.

''Professor Dumbledore, sir.'' Said Hagrid nervously.

''Good evening, Hagrid. I wonder… could we?'' Asked Dumbledore, gesturing towards the minister and Anton.

''Of course. Come in. Come in.'' Replied Hagrid.

They entered Hagrid's house and Anton heard whispering in a corner. When he tried to see what it was, he could not see anything but could clearly hear two heartbeats. He made a smile and silently mouthed 'I know you are there' and the heartbeats accelerated. He snickered then turned his back to them.

''Bad business, Hagrid, very bad business. Had to come.'' Said Cornelius. ''Three attacks on Muggle-borns. Things have gone far enough. The ministry's got to act.''

''But… I never… You know I never, professor.'' Said Hagrid.

''I want it understood, Cornelius, that Hagrid, has my full confidence.'' Said Dumbledore.

''Albus, look, Hagrid's record is against him. I've got to take him.'' Said Cornelius, making a gesture in the air with his hand.

''Take me? Take me where? Not Azkaban prison.'' Said Hagrid, slightly panicking.

''I'm afraid we have no choice, Hagrid.'' Said Cornelius.

''Well, I'm not here just to be pretty, mmm? I'll take very good care of you, Mr. Hagrid.'' Sang Anton.

Fang growled, but it was not because of Anton. Lucius Malfoy had opened the door and Ruma was behind him.

''Already here, Fudge? Good.'' Said Lucius, making his way inside.

Ruma went beside Anton who bowed at her presence.

''Nìn Rìs. Ennas na- tád hén dolen na i nas.'' Said Anton.

She raised an eyebrow, then sighed. She knew it was Harry and Ronald under the cloak.

''What are yeh doing here? Get out of my house!'' Said Hagrid angrily.

''Believe me… I take absolutely no pleasure being inside your…'' Began Lucius as he went closer to the corner where Harry and Ronald were. ''You call this a house?'' He added with a repulsed face. He turned around. ''No. I simply called up the school and was told the Headmaster was here.''

''Pff. Called up, more like shouted for everyone to hear you.'' Said Ruma, annoyed.

''Well, what exactly is it that you want with me?'' Asked Albus.

''The other governors and I have decided it's time for you to step aside.'' Said Lucius as he held a piece of rolled parchment in his hand. ''This is an order of suspension.'' He added, walking towards Albus to give him the parchment, but the Headmaster lifted a finger. ''You'll find all twelve signatures on it.'' Dumbledore slowly took the parchment and Lucius had a small grin on his face. ''I'm afraid we feel you've rather lost your touch. Well, with all these attacks, there'll be no Muggle-borns left at Hogwarts.'' Lucius turned again towards the corner. ''I can only imagine what an awful loss that would be to the school.''

Ruma wanted to vomit. She could clearly hear the satisfaction Lucius was experiencing in this moment and Anton looked at her, ready to act violently upon a single word from her at the lack of respect he had manifested. Ruma took a deep breath to calm herself.

''Yeh can't take Professor Dumbledore away. Take him away and the Muggleborns won't stand a chance. You mark my words, there'll be killings next!'' Said Hagrid, outraged.

''You think so?'' Asked Lucius with a hopeful tone.

Enough.

''Lucius…'' Began Ruma with venom, her wand out and pointed at him. ''I really wished Seth was here to hear you talk like that. If you clearly remember from where he comes from, I don't think you'd let your tongue move as much.''

Lucius lifted his hands slowly as he gave her a glare.

''Ruma. I didn't mean to offend you.'' Said Lucius quietly.

''No. You are forgetting who she is, blondie.'' Said Anton.

''Ruma. Calm yourself.'' Asked gently Dumbledore. Ruma put away her wand and crossed her arms. ''If the governors desire my removal… I will, of course, step aside.'' Dumbledore walked in front of Lucius. ''However, you will find that help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who… ask for it.'' He added before staring behind Lucius, at the corner where undoubtedly Ronald and Harry were.

Lucius awkwardly looked behind him then blinked.

''Admirable sentiments. Shall we?'' Asked Lucius as he moved towards the door. ''Fudge.'' He added before leaving with a nod from the minister.

Dumbledore had stared a little too long at the two boys before he also left the hut. Ruma took another deep breath and grabbed Anton by his sleeve. As they walked away from the hut, Ruma spoke quietly to Anton.

''I don't want the dementors to torment Hagrid… or the least possible. He is not guilty of anything… there's a damn basilisk in the school and it had been quiet for a few months…'' Said Ruma.

''As you wish. What's a basilisk?'' Asked Anton. ''Sounds like a dish.''

Ruma could not repress a snort.

''No, Anton. It's a giant freaking snake that can kill at first glance… come to think of it, I don't know if it could kill vampires, but I don't want to test it.'' Said Ruma.

Anton looked at the school in wonder.

''So much fun going on. I wish I could stay a while in that school.'' Said Anton.

''Anton. You are… something.'' Said Ruma.

Anton moved his bright red hair behind his shoulder.

''Oh, I'm something! Amazing, glorious, exceptional. Name it, deary.'' Answered Anton with a wink.

The minister and Hagrid were coming their way and she sighed before looking at Anton again.

''Place him near Sirius, but not that they can see each other… Hagrid still thinks Sirius is a traitor.'' Said Ruma.

''It will be done, Nìn Rìs.'' Said Anton before bowing again.

She spoke with Albus briefly afterwards before he had to leave Hogwarts, leaving McGonagall as the Headmistress per interim. She hoped Ronald and Harry had gone back to their common room as soon as they could and was relieved to see them in her class the next day. Regulus had told her that they used Polyjuice to get into the Slytherin's common room back in December. She had deduced who the culprit were then from the cauldron in the bathroom, which she had failed to mention the Headmaster because of how traumatized she had been. Now, Hermione was petrified, but she had had the decency of using a mirror. Ruma knew that Hermione had been bright enough again to get the knowledge that it was a basilisk. Did Harry and Ron know?

May 29th, 1993

Ruma was correcting the last term assignments when she heard McGonagall's voice instructing all students to go in their dormitories and the teachers to go to the second-floor corridor immediately. Her heart accelerated, fearing what it meant, and went out of her office, taking the direction of the second floor.

''As you can see, the Heir of Slytherin has left another message. Our worst fear has been realized. A student has been taken by the monster into the chamber itself. The students must be sent home. I'm afraid this is the end of Hogwarts.'' Said Minerva with a broken voice.

Lockhart arrived a few moments later.

''So sorry. Dozed off. What have I missed?'' Asked Lockhart.

''A girl has been snatched by the monster, Lockhart. Your moment has come at last.'' Said Snape.

''My moment?'' Asked Lockhart with a surprised face.

''Weren't you saying just last night that you've known all along where the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets is?'' Asked Snape.

''That's settled. We'll leave you to deal with the monster, Gilderoy.'' Said Minerva. ''Your skills, after all, are legend.'' Remarked Minerva with a disbelieving tone.

''Very well. I'll just be in my office getting… getting ready.'' Said Lockhart with a wide smile before turning around and leaving.

''Who is it that the monster's taken, Minerva?'' Asked Pomfrey.

''Ginny Weasley.'' Said Minerva, her voice breaking.

The teachers all left except Severus who stayed with Ruma.

''Tell me you know where the entrance is?'' Asked Severus.

Ruma looked at him nervously, remembering the feeling she had when the Basilisk passed so close to her. She also could not let Ginny die alone down there, and it made her wonder why Voldemort would want to kill her, a pureblood.

''Even if I knew, I won't let you go there.'' Said Ruma.

''Ruma…'' Hissed Severus going an inch of a distance towards her. ''I believe I am as skilled as you in the matter of dark arts.''

They stared at each other for a moment, then Ruma looked away.

''What are we supposed to do, then?'' She asked, uncertain, then a thought occurred to her. ''You get Dumbledore, now.'' Her eyes turned red.

''And you?'' Hissed Snape again.

''You go get Dumbledore.'' She ordered before turning into a falcon and flying away.

''RUMA!'' Yelled Severus as he saw her going out of his view.

She flew fast, taking the hint of courage she didn't know she had and flew directly towards the bathroom where she found the entrance of the Chamber of Secrets was already opened. She hovered for a few seconds over it then flew down the pipe. She heard the chant of a phoenix behind her as she arrived down the pipe. She waited then saw it was Fawkes who made a soft chirp as he passed beside her. She followed him through the rubble, seeing Ron and Lockhart.

The two birds flew through a hole, then another entrance with snakes on it. Upon entering a big room where several statues stood on both sides of a pathway, Ruma was amazed by the grandeur the Chamber had. She was also mortified as she saw Ginny laying down on the cold stone in front of a large water basin where stood another statue that looked like the head of Salazar Slytherin.

Fumseck dropped the sorting hat in Harry's hands, then flew away. As for Ruma, she morphed back to herself then cast a curse towards Tom, but it went through him.

''Professor?'' Said Harry. ''You… you are Mischief?''

''Who are you?'' Asked Tom.

Ruma did not answer them and went directly to Ginny, murmuring diagnosis spells over her body.

''Professor, that's Voldemort! Ginny… I don't know what he did to Ginny.'' Said Harry beside her.

Her spells showed her lifeline was weak and her magic was slipping away.

''Harry, I know that's Voldemort. I want to know how he is physically looking like a freaking teenager. He does not know me, which can mean several things…'' She said as she drew runes around Ginny.

Tom frowned, then began to slightly panic as he recognized the runes Ruma was drawing around her.

''NO! Let's see how you can deal with the great serpent! Speak to me, Slytherin, greatest of the Hogwarts Four." Hissed Tom.

Ruma was done with the runes, and she understood. Ginny's life was going to the book that lay beside her. The book was the diary Voldemort had made into a horcrux when he was sixteen.

If she let Ginny die, Voldemort would get a body back, and Seth would come back, right now. Could she make that choice? Her thoughts were interrupted as Harry began to run away because the basilisk had gone out of the statue's mouth. She panicked and morphed into her Animagus form to fly away on top of the statue.

''Kill him! Parseltongue won't save you now, Potter. It only obeys me.'' Said Tom.

Harry tripped and fell over. She had to do something, so she flew fast but Fumseck was faster as he came back and attacked the Basilisk directly in the eyes, ripping them off where blood splattered everywhere. She took that opportunity to morph back near Ginny and grab the diary.

''NO! Your bird may have blinded the basilisk, but it can still hear you.'' Said Tom, his attention on Harry.

Harry disappeared in a pipe, followed by the basilisk.

Ruma was not sure how she could destroy the horcrux or the basilisk and her thoughts ran in her mind.

''Ginny… Seth… what am I supposed to do?'' Said Ruma out loud.

Tom turned towards her.

''Seth? You don't mean Seth Vulken, do you?'' Asked Tom.

Ruma stood up with the diary in her hand.

''Yes! The only friend you have was struck by the same curse you received when you tried to kill Harry! He did not have Horcruxes like you do, which I am sure you have more than one, but his protective enchantment made him go somewhere and the only way for him to come back is by you getting a body!'' Cried Ruma before looking at Ginny again. ''I just… can't… let you kill Ginny.''

''Who are you?'' Repeated Tom more urgently. ''How can you know about horcruxes?''

Suddenly, electricity and ice was felt in her arm holding the diary and the pain brought her to her knees. Voldemort was using his horcrux to try and possess her, again. She felt that familiar fire burning through her mind viciously. She tried to bring her Occlumency shields but Voldemort was too strong. This was not a weakened Voldemort. He had the full strength of his Horcrux.

To take the decision of attacking Ruma made him distracted from the energy he had been sapping from Ginny and if they had looked at Ruma's runes, they would show Ginny's lifeline slowly coming back to her.

''The vampire Queen? And… you seek to restore my counterpart for Seth?! WHAT IS SETH TO ME?'' Yelled Tom.

Ruma could see images of memories she had not even remembered she had. Bribes of conversation she had overheard between Seth and Gellert, then the interaction she had with Voldemort as he gave her a mission, the Christmas gathering… Each and every subsequent images hurt physically more and more, and she felt her mind slipping away towards a darkness, trying to get away from the pain. The last image she saw was herself saying to Severus that she loved him, and everything went black.

Venthyr translation
