Guilt is the thief of life
Harry Potter and the Vulkens Chapter 6 The Unveiling
September 24th, 1993, Nathaniel's office, Vulken manor, Egypt
An extreme cold was felt in the office, but the vampires present paid it no mind. Everyone of them were mourning, unable to think and it had been going on for several days. In a low raspy breath, a dementor hovered over the floor, trying to get any emotions around from humans, but there were none. The old King had his face buried in his hands, an opened letter on the table. It mentioned the visit of Corban Yaxley on this day.
At this point, he was not sure how much he cared about anything he would tell him, for his son had been missing for twelve years, and the departure of his wife to the other realm had removed any hope, or any will he had, to continue this life.
''Faers, aes nin faers.''
Nathaniel lifted his eyes at the dementor. The dark creature that was once his wife was becoming restless. He knew she was long gone and what remained was but a shell. He looked at the several vampires around the room and sighed.
''You need to feed. Leave me now… and rest.'' Said Nathaniel.
''Nin Aran…''
''Im ped- chil.'' Ordered the old King, wearily.
The vampires bowed and left the room. Nathaniel continued to stare at the dementor. He knew what effects it had on humans, and he was pretty sure, even if it did not affect him, that he could just as well be on their effect. He mourned his wife with this creature in front of him, and he could not resolve himself to order it to leave for Azkaban or even Hogwarts, where most of them were, for a man that was clearly far from needing so much attention.
His son was gone because of a boy. A boy he had thought to murder when he first knew about it. When he learned it had been because of a prophecy the dark wizard Voldemort believed in, he became even more furious. The only reason he had not gone to Britain was because he also had been defeated, along with his deatheaters being captured. He instead had focused on giving all the information he knew about the protective enchantment he had provided his son to Corban, whom he knew felt even worse than him.
''Nathaniel.''
The voice had come from a kneeling man in front of him. He had not even noticed him enter his office. He knew it was Corban for beside his son, no other had the slow heartbeat like him. The only wizard he held respect in the whole world was his son's childe.
''You don't have to do that, Corban.'' Said Nathaniel quietly.
Corban stood up, then looked at the dementor with sadness.
''I… I'm so sorry, your majesty.'' Said Corban.
''Only you can understand my pain right now.'' Said Nathaniel.
Corban looked down and stayed silent. His connection to Seth had almost driven him crazy over the years. The nights and days he had cried, screamed, and pulled out his hair, trying to reach for a sensation, a thought, a feeling that Seth was still there. The lack of response had driven him mad to the point of murdering dozens of muggles around countries. He had come back to Nathaniel after a time, kneeling and begging him to end his life. He was reminded that when Seth would come back, he would need him more than ever, especially since Nathaniel thought he would be in great pain from the curse Seth had received. He had discussed for days with Nicholas Flamel after it had happened.
Corban had recently come back from Austria, where he had spoken with Gellert in hope that he had had visions, which he did.
''I have news… Grindelwald said he has seen Voldemort's resurrection in less than two years from now. Somehow, it is linked with the Potter boy. The thing is, the ministry is organising a tournament next year between three wizarding schools and it will happen at Hogwarts. I have a feeling that the boy will be involved. If Voldemort needs something, he will do everything he can to obtain it.'' Said Corban.
''And… how is that a problem?'' Asked Nathaniel, still having a glimmer of hope of seeing his son again.
''Ruma teaches at Hogwarts. Even if she desires that Seth comes back to this realm, she has most certainly developed feelings for the students, and in an attempt to protect the students, she might stop this from happening.'' Said Corban.
Nathaniel narrowed his eyes.
''She is the temporary Queen of vampires, and she would dare place humans before my son? You are going to do everything you can to prevent her from doing anything, aren't you?'' Said Nathaniel angrily.
''Evidently. I am still, after all, the international representant of magical cooperation, and it is my duties to supervise the tournament next year. There is a man called Bartemius Crouch that replaced me during the times I was needed elsewhere.'' Said Corban.
Nathaniel nodded then stood up to get a book in the library behind him and gave it to Corban. By book, he had meant several pages of parchment in very bad shape that seemed to hang on by magic.
''This is the… 'book' I told you about. Half of it is written in a foreign language called Parseltongue. This is what Nicholas Flamel told me anyway, before he… passed. There are some words that looks similar to Venthyr and that was the reason the enchantment placed on Seth's shoulder was possible… maybe you could decipher something that will tell us about his return and what state he could be.'' Said Nathaniel as Corban opened the book he had taken from his hands and began to read.
''You… you found it.'' Muttered Corban, impressed.
Corban turned pages after pages with disbelieving eyes. He could read it all. He stopped to a page where it spoke about the protective enchantment Nathaniel and Elena had placed in the orb for Seth. Half of it was written in Latin, while a part of it was in Parseltongue, which he read right away.
Let it be clear, this is only for magical protection. Any non-wizard weapons or physical injury will not trigger this enchantment. In the few that attempted this enchantment made for Slytherin's lineage, even fewer got to see it realised to have the aftereffects documented. It seems the cause of the trigger will result into a dismemberment of a body part. The severity of the dismemberment can result into a quick death if not quickly taken care of, if at all. It can save your life and it preserves your soul and your sanity, compared to that of a Horcrux. It is unfortunate that this enchantment comes with such risks… risks if you are alone.
One recipient received the death curse, and the enchantment was triggered by itself. The person received the curse on his arm which resulted into the loss of said member, but he lived, only to die a week later from a stab through the head. It could save him from anything magical, but not from the cruelty to these animals.
''Dismemberment… Seth's tail weapon…'' Muttered Corban.
''What are you saying, Corban?'' Asked Nathaniel as he walked beside him.
Corban looked at the old King with worry.
''Seth… Seth was facing Voldemort and had his back turned to the rebounded curse. From what I could read, Seth will most likely have lost his tail. I know it brought him a complete perfect balance with his body… he will be disoriented, sick, and most likely in great pain.'' Deduced Corban.
Nathaniel closed his eyes and clenched his teeth.
''At least… now you'll know what to do.'' Said Nathaniel, opening his eyes and looking at the dementor still hovering in the room. ''Glenn- na Azkaban.'' Ordered the King to the dementor.
''Sui cin iest.''
Nathaniel looked at the dementor as it hovered away and left the room, his chest tightening from the emotions again.
''No, that was not my wish to see you go, nìn Rìs.'' Said Nathaniel with a broken voice, falling to his knees.
He had grabbed Corban's clothes and Corban had almost fallen down from the grip. He knelt and passed his arms around Nathaniel.
Elena would not come back.

They finally had a decent DADA teacher, but Regulus was weary of the boggart in that furniture since the one thing he feared the most was his grand-father Callum Yaxley. They got to see several things people feared, like spiders, snakes, and other crawling insects. He did not get his turn since Lupin stopped the activity when it was Potter's turn. He was not surprised to see the full moon appear in front of the teacher, since he already knew he was a were-wolf. Stopping Potter from facing the boggart was questionable. Did Lupin think the Dark Lord would have appeared in class?
Then came the first Hogsmeade's week-end where Potter was not able to come because he did not have parental authorisation. He found it weird that his muggle family had not done that for him.
On Halloween night, the Gryffindor's common room apparently had the visit of his uncle, and the teachers made them sleep in the dining hall.
''A remarkable feat, don't you think.'' He heard Snape speak to Dumbledore as they walked between sleeping students. ''To enter Hogwarts's castle on his own, completely undetected.''
''Quite remarkable, yeah.'' Replied Dumbledore.
''Do you have any theory as to how he managed to do it?'' Asked Snape.
''Many, each as unlikely as the next.'' Said the Headmaster.
''You may recall, prior to start of term, that I expressed concerns towards a certain professor.'' Began Snape.
''Severus!'' Hissed Ruma quietly behind them.
''I did not mean you, Ruma…'' Said Severus.
''I do not believe a single professor would help Sirius Black to enter the castle, Severus.'' Said Dumbledore. ''I am quite convinced the castle is safe. I am also willing to let the students back to their houses.''
''What about Potter? Shouldn't he be warned?'' Asked Snape.
''Warned? Warned about what? Sirius is not after him!'' Protested Ruma.
Severus frowned and turned towards her.
''Trying to get into Gryffindor's common room is not enough proof for you?'' Said Severus quietly. ''He's not the man you used to know.''
''What kind of man do you even think he is, Sev?'' Replied Ruma just as quietly.
She glanced at the sleeping students before turning heels and walking away.
''Perhaps… we should let them sleep here for tonight then.'' Said Dumbledore as he stroke his beard with a pensive mood.
''That mutt better not approach her.'' Mumbled Severus as he walked past the Slytherins, away from Dumbledore.
Draco poked Regulus in the back.
''You awake, Reg?'' Asked Draco.
''Ya.'' Answered Regulus.
''Do you know what Black is after?'' Whispered Draco.
''Not really. I believe Naneth… sorry, meant Ruma, in whatever she says. If he's not after Potter, then the question is what is he after in the Lion's den?'' Muttered Regulus after turning himself towards his friend.
''Right…'' Replied Draco. ''Good night.''
Regulus thought he saw fear on Draco's face before he turned around.
''Night.'' Said Regulus.

Greisha observed the students all day, seeing them pass her and shooting her all kinds of glances. Hearing all those different heartbeats dancing in different rhythms upon a look at her was so satisfying to her. She was able to tell who was seventeen by thinking about taking their blood without feeling pain from her Queen's order. By the second week of school, she already knew on who she could feed on during her stay. By the third week, she did not need anymore blood brought by owls from Azkaban. Wizard blood addiction was real.
Staying at Hogwarts was a real treat from the boredom she had been accustomed to in Azkaban. Young magical blood was ten times better than the ones from Azkaban, or maybe because it was all growing magical cores, but she found it even more addicting. She saw it on Anton too. He had already his women and a few men complying to his flamboyancies.
Just like clockwork, when everyone was asleep and the teachers far from her favorite spot, the Gryffindor head prefect came to her, his heartbeat fast in apprehension.
''Do it. Now.'' Ordered the red head.
Greisha made a grin, knowing that young man loved to think himself in control, ordering her around when he totally just melted under her touch and came in his pants after she was done, every single time.
Greisha grabbed him by the shoulders and turned him around to slam him on the wall. He gasped from the hit but was not any less eager to be taken. His pain was even more satisfying when she was the cause. No wizard should feel superiors to vampires. Her left hand slithered in his hair, and she pulled it slowly on the side, exposing his neck. She went closer and passed her tongue on the skin. The young man's breathing hitched in excited staccato, and she could see the arteries bulging from the rising tension.
''Who would have thought, a Weasley like you, would love this?'' Said Greisha.
''I did not say you could talk, vampire.'' Hissed Percy.
Greisha laughed briefly before sinking her teeth in his neck. Percy was trying to make it seem not personal by calling her 'vampire' instead of her name or even thinking she was inferior, but she knew he was already hooked to this. The blood flowed in her throat, sweet and thick, as Percy placed his arms around her, gasping and moaning from the sensation she gave him. Greisha made low growls of contentment, taking her time not to drink too fast to make it last.
''Harder.'' Said Percy between two breaths.
Percy moved his hips closer to her and moved his hands in her back, wishing more friction. Greisha gripped his hair tighter and sank her teeth deeper, gulping more blood at the same time. Young magical blood gave her ecstatic feelings and she had understood Darthael's addiction to wizards, especially after she spent so much time in Azkaban. She tasted the change in his blood and his muscles clenching from everywhere as he came in his pants. He let out several moans and rapid labored breaths for several seconds before she licked the wound from his neck and stepped away from him, walking back to her spot a few meters away.
''You… you don't tell a soul…'' Said Percy between two breaths.
He muttered a cleaning spell under his clothes and rearranged his clothing and his tie. Greisha rolled her eyes and looked towards the forest.
''I don't need to, your own self-pitying is amusing.'' Said Greisha with a smirk.
Percy huffed then walked back to his tour. When he was far enough, Anton jumped from the platform above where Greisha had been and landed in front of her.
''I saw Black in his dog form not far from here.'' Said Anton with a honey voice.
Greisha shrugged.
''Not like our Queen wants anything done to him anyway.'' Said Greisha.
Anton clicked his tongue and went closer to her, brushing a finger on her cheek.
''There's many things I'd want to do to you, pretty flower.'' Purred Anton. He licked his lips and placed a strand of her hair behind her ear. ''I'd give you more than that ugly red hair for sure since my hair is prettier than anyone.''
Greisha chuckled, a smile reaching her eyes.
''Anton…'' Began Greisha.
''I know, I know… I'm too young for you.'' Said Anton with a wink.
Greisha laughed.
''Yeah, I mean, fifteen is really too young, Anton.'' Snickered Greisha.
She meant that with how he usually behaved, but Anton was technically going on his 43rd birthday. He was turned by Gellert when he was barely 18 years old. Anton passed an arm around her and pulled her to him before kissing her intensely.
''I'll show you the vigor of a fifteen years old, Iar híril.'' Said Anton.

Ruma paced in her office. She had asked the Gryffindors all week who had a rat and how long they had their pet. When Ronald Weasley answered her proudly how his rat Scabbers had been in his family for twelve years, she felt ill. No rats lived that long, even magical ones, and the twelve-year span was too much coincidental for not being Peter Pettigrew. The day before, she learned that Sirius had attempted once more to get Peter by going inside Gryffindor's common room and 'attacking' Ronald Weasley. Sirius was not crazy, and it just proved to her that Ronald's rat was really Pettigrew.
She felt guilty.
Guilty of not noticing it earlier, after all those years. She did not pay attention as to whom had a rat at school for all those years and Pettigrew had been under her nose all this time. She had known the small shy, but arrogant boy, and she could not resolve to accept he had done all this to his friends. For the few times in her life a situation where she needed to make decisions, she did not know what to do, and so went to see Dumbledore.
''What is wrong? I see upon your face something very grave happened.'' Said Dumbledore as she sat in front of him.
Ruma buried her face in her hands.
''Oh… Headmaster. I know where Peter Pettigrew is.'' Said Ruma.
Albus sat back and made a serious face.
''Who?'' Asked Dumbledore.
''Ronald Weasley's rat.'' Said Ruma, almost choking as she said it. ''To think… all this time Sirius has been in Azkaban and I… I…''
''Stop blaming yourself, Ruma. I am as guilty as you.'' Said Dumbledore quietly before standing up. ''Now to bring Mr. Weasley's rat here without making Pettigrew flee…''
''We could simply ask Ronald where his rat is and tell Anton and Greisha.'' Said Ruma.
Dumbledore stopped his slow pacing, thought for a moment, cast a tempus, then nodded.
''Let's free an innocent man.'' Said Dumbledore.
They waited for the students to come back from Hogsmead, then when Ruma went to speak with Ronald when going to the Gryffindor's common, He was coming out of the door with a white blanket tainted with red on it. Hermione was trying to flee from him and yelling back at him.
''Crookshanks has nothing to do with this!'' Cried Hermione.
''Then how would you explain the blood!?'' Said Ronald.
Ruma went in front of Hermione.
''What's going on?'' Asked Ruma.
''Her monster of a cat killed Scabbers!'' Yelled Ronald.
''What?'' Said Ruma, disbelieving what was happening. ''Give me that blanket, Mr. Weasley.''
Harry came behind his friend, wondering what was happening. Ronald gave the blanket to Ruma who made a detecting spell on the blood drops. A bright cat form sprouted from the blood. That meant it was not the rat's blood, and Ruma thought he might had fled.
''It's not Scabbers's blood, Ronald.'' Said Ruma.
''He's still gone! He could have bitten that filthy cat in his defense!'' Said Ron.
Hermione did not know what to say since the proof of her cat going in the boy's dorm was undeniable. She let out a whimper and left running. Ruma wanted to say something reassuring, but the prospect of Peter being who knows where angered her.
''Mr. Weasley. Your rat might still be alive if he managed to run away. If you ever see it again, please come tell me or Dumbledore right away.'' Said Ruma.
''Why?'' Asked Ron, his cheeks red from the anger.
''So that next time, we can place a few spells to protect it from the cat, alright?'' Lied Ruma.
''Oh, right… thanks, Professor.'' Said Ronald.
''Come on Ron.'' Said Harry, grabbing his friend's arm.
Ruma turned around and called a house-elf to give the soiled blanket, then went to see Anton and Greisha to give new instructions before going back to see Dumbledore.

January 1994
The next Quidditch match that happened in November, hundreds of dementors had gone in the stadium and Ruma's voice had boomed in the air, ordering in Venthyr that they shall never come inside the castle until ordered so. It had been too late for Harry, since he fell off his broom, unconscious, and almost fell to his death if Dumbledore had not slowed his descent.
In the following months, there had been no more attacks from Sirius, and she wondered if he was still around, knowing Peter had disappeared. Anton and Greisha had been hunting rats, being careful as to not kill any, since they could be owned by students. The instructions was to find one with a missing toe.
During the holidays, Harry had learned the lies around Sirius Black from teachers that happened to talk about it when he was hidden, and he had confronted Ruma about it, and had waited after class to speak with her again.
''Professor, you knew that Sirius was my godfather and the betrayal he did? Why do you keep believing he is not after me?'' Asked Harry.
''Because the real traitor was their other friend, Peter Pettigrew.'' Said Ruma.
Harry blinked and shook his head.
''He's dead!'' Said Harry.
Ruma sighed and sat on her desk.
''What I'm about to tell you is not to be repeated to Ronald. Hermione is very clever, and she will take it better than him. Can I have you word, Harry?'' Said Ruma.
''I promise!'' Said Harry eagerly.
''You know I am an Animagus, and that is not without reason. I was inspired by your father and his friends.'' Began Ruma.
''You mean to say they were all Animagus?'' Asked Harry.
''Yes… Sirius can be a black dog, James was a stag, just like your Patronus… and Peter…'' She sighed again, passing a hand through her hair. ''Is a rat. Do you know what this means?''
Harry thought for a moment, then made a face where Ruma deduced he had understood the terrible truth. She had not yet spoken of Lupin's lycanthropy. It was not for her to tell unless Harry deduced it or asked her.
''No… you don't mean… Scabbers?'' Said Harry.
''You got it… but if you encounter him, knowing what he is, and what he did, do not underestimate him and come to see me or Dumbledore right away. Do not alarm him, especially if there are others around, including Ronald.'' Said Ruma.
Harry nodded before sitting down on a nearby chair.
''I saw him… before taking the knight bus this summer… when I fled from the Dursleys. I can't believe it... he really did get me the firebolt.'' Said Harry.
''Oh yeah, I saw the transaction from the Black's vault. I did tell you he was not after you, but after Ronald's rat.'' Said Ruma.
''It all makes sense… I'm sorry Professor… I was angry with you.'' Said Harry.
''I understand, and I accept your apologies. Now, off you go.'' Said Ruma.
March 1994
The trio had gone to see Hagrid by the lake as spring was showing it's nose. On a large rock, Regulus was sitting and speaking with Hagrid.
''What is he doing there with Hagrid?'' Asked Ronald.
''I'll let you know, Ron, that Regulus is a friend of Hagrid too.'' Said Hermione.
''How do you know?'' Said Ron. As they were now close to Hagrid.
''Hey, Mione.'' Said Regulus.
''Mione?'' Said Harry.
Hermione huffed and greeted Hagrid.
''How did it go, Hagrid, the hearing?'' Asked Hermione.
''Well, first off… the committee members took turns talking about why we were there.'' Said Hagrid as he threw rocks in the water that bounced several times. ''Then I got up, did my piece, said how Buckbeak was a good Hippogriff, always cleaned his feathers! And then… Lucius Malfoy got up… you can imagine what he said… Buckbeak was a deadly and dangerous creature that would kill ya as soon as he looked at ya.'' Added Hagrid with a tsk.
''And then?'' Asked Hermione.
''Then he asked for the worst… dear old Lucius.'' Said Hagrid.
''They are not sacking you?'' Asked Ronald.
''Oh, I'm not sacked.'' Said Hagrid, throwing another rock in the water. ''Buckbeak's been sentenced to death!'' Cried Hagrid.
''That's awful.'' Said Ron before looking at Regulus. ''Aren't you Malfoy's friend? Why didn't you do anything?'' Scowled Ron.
''Hmph. I don't have to explain myself to you, Weasel, but I'll do that anyway. I did convince Draco to let the matter go, but not his father, who's not a walk in the park to even speak to.'' Said Regulus as he jumped down the rock. ''I love Buckbeak and if Hermione did not even tell you about how many hours we worked on that case, then you must not really be a good friend.'' Added Regulus before walking away.
Ronald had brought out his wand, but Hermione went in front of him.
''You… Hermione! He's a snake! I'm your friend, not him!'' Whined Ron, lowering his wand.
Regulus was too far too be targeted now.
''Funny way to show it when you even accuse me of things I did not even do!'' Said Hermione.
''I mean your cat, not you.'' Said Ron.
''Can you both stop arguing? Why would it matter if Regulus is friend with her?'' Asked Harry.
''Not you too!'' Said Ron.
Hagrid walked out of the water, wiping his eyes.
''I may not have been a teacher for a long time, but Slytherins are not all that bad.'' Grumbled Hagrid. ''Not because you are in a different house that you have to be sworn enemies to anyone else.''
''Exactly.'' Said Hermione.
They continued to talk more calmy for a moment before heading off to the castle.

May 14th, 1994
On a night like many others, Severus and Ruma were patrolling the corridors, talking quietly to each other when they heard a small yell in the corridors. They hurried their steps and found Harry who had just turned off the light of his wand, probably trying to remain unseen. Ruma wondered why he did not bring his invisibility cloak to roam about the castle.
''Potter.'' Sneered Severus, holding his wand directly at Harry's face. Ruma placed a hand on his arm to lower the threatening pose Severus had. ''What are you doing wandering the corridors in the middle of the night?''
''I was sleepwalking.'' Said Harry and Ruma tsked.
''Extraordinarily like your father you are, Potter. He, too, was exceedingly arrogant. Strutting about the castle.'' Said Severus.
''My dad didn't strut.'' Said Harry, trying to act proud of his father. Ruma repressed a snort, not wanting to show her opinion on James Potter in front of Harry. ''And nor do I.''
''Turn out your pockets.'' Ordered Snape but Harry did not move. ''Turn out, your, pockets.'' Added Snape with more vigor.
Harry reached inside his pockets and brought out a piece of parchment which Ruma recognised. Sirius had showed it to her a few times when they were seeing each other frequently. Again, she tried to hide her emotions as now she was very angry as for the reason Harry was probably out of bed.
''What's this?'' Asked Severus.
''Piece of parchment.'' Answered Harry.
''Open it.'' Said Snape and Harry obliged. Snape pointed his wand at it and asked it to reveal its secrets. Ruma curiously glanced at the parchment as writings began to show. ''Read it.'' Ordered Snape.
''Mr. Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs offer their compliments to Professor Snape and…'' Began Harry.
''Go on.'' Said Severus and Harry stared at Snape with an arrogant stare.
''And request he keeps his abnormally large nose out of other people's business.'' Finished Harry.
Ruma closed his eyes at the insult. Even after their school years, the Marauders never would stop insulting their arch nemesis.
''Why you insolent little…'' Began Snape.
''Professor!'' Said Lupin behind them.
Severus turned towards Lupin, his wand pointing up again, but towards Remus this time. Ruma and Harry shared a glance and Ruma placed a finger on her lips, telling Harry to not utter a word.
''Well, well. Lupin. Out for a little walk… in the moonlight, are we?'' Sneered Snape.
Again, another mockery.
''Oh, for god's sake, Sev. Can you just for once in your life, stop trying to bring the worst out of everyone!'' Said Ruma.
Severus only clenched his teeth in answer, not diverting his eyes from Lupin. Lupin smiled at her and cocked his head.
''Ruma, the Queen we all deserve.'' Said Lupin.
''No flattery, Remus.'' Said Ruma.
Remus walked closer to Harry.
''Harry, you alright?'' Asked Remus and Harry nodded.
''That remains to be seen.'' Said Severus as he snatched the parchment from Harry's hands ''I just got hold of this curious artefact from Potter's hand, take a look.'' He gave the parchment to Lupin who took it and Ruma saw he acted as if he did not know what it was, even if he was one of the creators. ''Considering it is your expertise, I believe It's full of dark magic.''
''Seriously doubt it, Severus. It looks to me that it is a parchment designed to insult anyone who dares to read it. I suspect it's a Zonko product. Nevertheless, I should investigate any hidden qualities it may possess. It is, after all, my area of expertise. Harry, would you come with me, please?'' Said Lupin.
Harry went towards Lupin, followed by the light of Severus's wand.
''Professors, good night.'' Added Lupin.
When Harry and Lupin turned the corner, Severus looked at Ruma.
''And Potter still gets away with his shenanigans.'' Said Severus.
''Maybe… but I know where you could put your abnormally large nose on me.'' Giggled Ruma.
OoOoO
Lupin made Harry come inside the DADA class.
''Now, I don't have the faintest idea how this map came into your possession. Quite frankly, I am astounded you didn't hand it in. It never occurred to you that this, in the hands of Sirius Black… is a map, to you?'' Said Remus and Harry frowned.
''I… you did tell me you were friends with my father, isn't that right?'' Said Harry.
''Your father was never a good listener to the rules either but him and your mother gave their lives to save yours and gambling their sacrifices wandering around the castle, unprotected with a killer on the loose is a pretty poor way to repay them!'' Said Lupin angrily.
''Peter Pettigrew was on the map! He was the one to betray my father!'' Said Harry precipitately.
Remus stopped, blinked, and stood up straight.
''How… Pettigrew is dead.'' Mumbled Remus.
''Did… did you speak with Professor Vulken about my godfather this year, Sir?'' Asked Harry, wondering if he said anything wrong.
Remus placed a hand over his mouth, and suddenly wondered at all the things he had heard Ruma say since the beginning of school. That Sirius was not after Harry. He would have been after Pettigrew.
''What do you know, Harry?'' Asked Remus softly, all traces of anger gone.
''Pettigrew was in his rat form for twelve years in the Weasley's family… it was Ron's rat until he disappeared in November… since then, it's the first time I saw his name on the map and…'' Began Harry, realising the mistake he had just said, and Remus's anger went back in his voice.
''If Ruma did tell you to not engage him, like I hope she did, but you went anyway… what I said earlier just holds the same power, you still placed your life in danger! Oh… Sirius… oh no. To say I ignored you… thought you…'' Remus placed his hand again over his mouth and sat on a nearby desk.
''Sir… if you know about the map, then you are one of the creators. Sirius was your best friend too, wasn't he?'' Said Harry.
Remus opened the parchment then revealed its content by placing his wand over it and muttering the phrase it needed. His eyes searched for the one name Harry had seen, hoping to see him in the castle, but after a long moment, he threw the parchment on his desk after walking to it.
''Go back to sleep, Harry… and… thank you.'' Said Lupin.
