So, this little story has been bouncing around in my head for a time. This along with my HPXPokémon cross are going to be a main focus for a time since I've begun to feel burnt out with some of my other works.
Sorry if you were invested in the others but for at least the moment I cannot publish shotty work.
Now this story is filled with Quirkless characters, slight aura powers, brotherly Bakugo, and LGBT plus characters if none of this is interesting to you please stop now. Like almost all of my works this is an AU world so please keep that in mind.
Without an more hesitation let's begin.
Remember unless it's OC I DON'T OWN IT!
Pokémon Academia
Prologue
*Crack* The sound hit the air causing a pair of bright emerald green eyes to fly open as a ten-year-old Izumi Midoriya jumped up from her sleeping spot to see the large egg resting on her desk wobbling with a large crack in the middle that was widening.
"Oh wow!" She called out in joy as the curly green-haired girl jumped down grabbing a nearby blanket and lifted the egg gently. Soon she laid it upon a small cluster of towels built like a nest as she laid nearby and waited.
The egg continued to wobble until it glowed a bright white light. The moment the light faded Izumi took a second to blink her eyes before they refocused and saw the little body before her.
She smiled kindly at the small brown fox-like creature with a fluffy white collar. "Hello little one." She said with a bright smile getting a yip in answer before she gently lifted the newly hatched Eevee.
"Welcome to the world." She said as the little guy fell asleep in her arms.
A few hours later Izumi smiled down at the little Eevee as he ate his first bottle fed meal with eagerness getting a chuckle from Izumi.
"Easy there. You'll give yourself a stomach ache." She said as the little guy continued to suckle on the nipple of the bottle.
"Have you chosen a nickname?" Izumi looked up to see the smiling face of her mother Inko Midoriya who was dressed in her nursing outfit with her partner Chansey nearby making tea.
"He seems to be a little ball of sunshine…I was thinking Sunny." Izumi said, making Inko smile.
"Sounds like a good name. Have you heard from Katsuki?" Inko asked, getting a slight sigh from her daughter.
"Ever since we won that tournament he's been too busy to call me." She said in a small tone getting a sigh from the older woman.
Katsuki Bakugo is the son of Inko's best friend Mitsuki Bakugo. The pair of ash blonde individuals were so much alike none ever questioned that they were mother and son. Both had the same spiky hair, the same explosive temperament, and the same desire to be the best at their goals.
This caused many to wonder how Mitsuki met a man like Masaru and married him since he was so calm, and gentle compared to his wife and child. Katsuki, unlike his mother, however had no desire to be a coordinator and later a fashion icon.
He believed he had the ability to one day become the champion of the Evangelion archipelago region of the Pokémon regions. Unlike most of the archipelago-like nations of the Pokémon regions, the Evangelion islands stood out thanks to an ever-changing migration paths of different Pokémon breeds.
The archipelago had several small islands around six large islands. The central most being entirely covered by a city where the human population lived. Depending on which island you traveled on you would find an abundance of Pokémon types and challenges.
Each given names to explain the climate and what one could expect there. The northernmost Hyou (ICE) Island where ice types, steel types, and other wintry weather lovin types could be found.
To the Northeast was Iwa (ROCK) Island where tons of Rock, Ground, and a few steel types lived in the rocky terrain.
Southeast Chikara (POWER) where the largest cluster of electric types were found along with the greatest power plants with a few others.
Southwestern Netsu (HEAT) where one found the largest gathering of fire types and dragon types in the warmest of the islands.
Western Rinkai (COASTAL) where the largest region of water types and sea life could be found in the region.
Finally was the central island Ikiiki (LIVELY) Island, the regional area filled with a giant city and the largest human population where many diverse types could be found from Poison types like Grimer to normal types like Sentret.
Like the other regions the Evangelion region also had its own Pokémon league, contest league, showcases, and so on. However where they differ from many was if one wished to take part in such events before the age of eighteen they would have to do so as a member of one of the many academies located in the region.
The Pokémon Academies not only gave one a general education it could also help those wishing to make a career out of any Pokémon profession.
In their part of Ikiiki Island Izumi and Katsuki had gone to one of the academies to take part in a youth tournament for future trainers.
UA academy is one of the most popular academies since it was the alma mater of the current champ of the Evangelion Region. The tournament was pairs of kids working together to pass academic tests and battle trials involving Pokémon training.
After placing first Izumi and Katsuki were given a pair of eggs to raise, along with each getting a set of evolution items, and autographed posters from the top experts of the region.
Like most regions Evangelion had a trainer champion and elite four, a top coordinator, and even a grand duchess. The Grand Duchess of the region is a woman named Uwabami, a beautiful woman with pale skin, blond hair, golden like eyes and a headdress that looked like a trio of snakes above her head. She tended to wear form fitting dresses with gold bracelets and anklets that looked like snakes, and heels. She was also noticeably big in the modeling world. Like her outfit suggests she had a love of snake Pokémon and tended to use them in her career.
The Top Coordinator was also a member of the Elite Four Ryukyu. Like Uwabami she was blonde and had model looks, however she had a greater love of battle and showing off the inner beauty of her dragon type Pokémon.
The other members of the Elite Four were quite famous as well. To the point that all used a stage name so they could retain some privacy in life.
The third member is a man in his early twenties named Hawks who dresses in an aviator suit with a fake pair of red wings on his back. Like his name suggests he focuses on Flying types and is immensely powerful since most tended to underestimate Flying types.
The second member is a dark-skinned woman with white hair who tended to wear a leotard outfit that was white, with yellow crescent moons on her chest and belt buckle, a pair of white gloves, and white boots with yellow crescent moons on the toes. This is Miruko who focuses on fighting types and was the youngest member of the elite four having turned eighteen earlier that year.
Finally the head member and number two trainer of the region is a man named Endeavor. He had short spiky red hair, with a beard to match, with a red and blue uniform with metal plated gloves, boots, and shoulder pads. He focused on fire types and was considered the most…prickly…member of the Elite Four.
Finally in the number one spot is Izumi's favorite trainer All Might. The blond haired buffed out mixed trainer tended to help the people and Pokémon of the region when his duties as champion could spare him.
He tended to overpower his foes quickly with only Endeavour getting close to defeating him in the last few years. He also tended to stand out because he always wore a smile to help inspire people. It was All Might who presented the pair of kids their rewards congratulating them and stating that he looked forward to seeing their progress in the years to come.
He along with the elite four, top coordinator, and grand duchess signed the posters for the kids before they had presented them. Izumi had hers framed and hanging in her room along with all her other memorabilia of other trainers, coordinators, and showcase performers.
Izumi loved Pokémon and took to analyzing different adults that trained Pokémon in some way shape or form.
The feeling of a tongue against her cheek woke her from her thoughts as she smiled at Sunny. "Sorry bud. I was just lost in thought." She explained making the Eevee nod in understanding.
"Speaking of which…I have a present for you." Inko said, making Izumi look up at her mother who smiled as she handed her a small package. Izumi opened it and smiled.
"An Everstone!" She said in excitement pulling up the plain looking leather collar with a bright white stone hanging off it.
"I know you probably have one in that case you won, but I figured you deserve a present for your first partner." Inko said, making Izumi smile as she placed the collar around Sunny.
"Looks good. Right partner?" She asked getting a yip from the newborn Pokémon, making mother and daughter chuckle.
"Do you have to go to work today mom?" Izumi asked, making Inko sigh.
"I'm afraid so dear." She said as her partner Chansey walked into the room carrying a tray of food.
Inko worked as a nurse at a local Pokémon center alongside with the Nurse Joy who ran the center. Izumi's father…well he was never there, and all Izumi ever remembered of him was the fact he constantly sent money for child support to her mother without calling to check up on her.
"We both need to get going. After all, don't you need to register Sunny?" Inko pointed out making Izumi blink.
"Right!" She said getting to her feet to prepare for her trip.
Inko walked into her work adjusting her uniform hat atop her green hair with her Chansey partner with a green bow tied to one of the hair like appendages atop of her head to separate her from the other Chansey who work in the center.
"Good morning Inko!" The pink haired Nurse Joy called out at the sight of her employee.
"Good morning." Inko said back as Izumi approached the counter.
"And little Izumi…although I won't be able to call you that for much longer." Nurse Joy said to the ten-year-old who blushed slightly. "And who is your little friend?" The head nurse asked, making Izumi smile.
"This is Sunny, he just hatched this morning." Izumi said, holding up her little Eevee with his Everstone collar in full view.
"Well then best to give him his first check up and to register him right away." Nurse Joy said motioning towards a nearby Chansey who brought a cart over.
"If you…" Nurse Joy never got to finish that sentence before a new voice interrupted her.
"HURRY UP HAG I NEED TO GET BLAZE LOOKED AT!"
"DON'T CALL ME THAT BRAT! AND IT'S NOT MY FAULT YOU COULDN'T WAIT FIVE MINUTES TO EAT SOMETHING BEFORE WE LEFT!"
Both Izumi and Inko sighed at the pair of voices both long used to the pair who made them.
Sure enough a moment later a pair of ashy blond humans walked into the room glaring at one another with sparks between their eyes as they glared at one another.
While a slightly embarrassed brown-haired man followed, trying to make gestures of apology to the others in the area. Izumi blinked when she noticed a hedgehog-like Pokémon riding atop of the youngest Bakugo family member.
"Good morning Bakugo family." Nurse Joy said politely getting the mother and son to stop glaring at one another.
"Oh morning Nurse Joy!" Mitsuki called out in her usual boisterous voice, getting a twitch from the nurse.
Mitsuki Bakugo is a model and a fashion designer who made costumes for coordinators and performers.
She was also Inko's best friend and Izumi's Godmother. "Morning Auntie Mitsuki!" Izumi said, making the older woman look to see her.
"There's my niece!" She called out, opening her arms and capturing Izumi in a bear hug. Sunny had already placed upon the cart before this happened. Lucky…or he would have been crushed just like Izumi was right now.
Izumi found herself once more being hugged tightly while her face was once more buried in the chest of her godmother. "Oh and you look so cute as always. Why couldn't the gods have blessed me with a cute little girl as well instead of my mouthy brat of a son?" She asked with a sigh.
"HUH! YOU WANT TO GO HAG?!" Katsuki yelled out, getting his mother to release Izumi and once more glare at her son.
"HUH! YOU COULDN'T TAKE ME ON YOUR BEST DAY BRAT!" Mitsuki yelled back as Izumi was gently brought back to her feet by her godfather Masaru.
"Hello Uncle Masaru." Izumi gasped out trying to find her footing once more.
"Good morning Izumi. I see your egg hatched as well." Masaru's words made the mother and son pair blink and look to see the collared Eevee on the cart.
"Oh my goodness he's adorable!" Mitsuki called before offering her hand to the normal type allowing Sunny to smell her hand to gain permission to touch the little guy.
"Tsk. Figures you'd get a normal type instead of anything good Deku." Katsuki said with his usual air of arrogance before he lifted his hands.
"I got something cool though." He said allowing Izumi to see the beige and black furred hedgehog with red spots on its back.
"Oh wow a Cyndaquil!" Izumi called out before making a notebook appear in her hands. She opened it before she began jotting down notes.
"You don't often see one of the starters out in the world like this! This is so cool!" Izumi said as she sketched the Johto starter.
"Yeah Blaze here is the best." Katsuki said with his nose in the air as Izumi continued to sketch the Fire Mouse Pokémon.
"So what nickname did you give the fox?" He asked once she was done.
"Oh! This is Sunny since he's a little ball of sunshine." Izumi introduced making Sunny yip in happiness while wagging his tail.
Katsuki rolled his eyes as he set Blaze down beside Sunny allowing the pair to mingle. "Figures you would get the cinnamon roll Pokémon." He joked, making Izumi chuckle slightly in embarrassment.
Izumi had a bit of a reputation among their school as an over eager trainer with a kind personality. Katsuki and Izumi were childhood friends, and both were reaching to one day become the best trainers of the region.
With Izumi also planning to one day become top coordinator since she loved contests just as much as Pokémon battles. "So are you going to evolve the little guy into a fire type?" He asked his friend who shrugged.
"It depends on what he wants. After all, evolving Eevee and others too soon…"
"…can hurt them overall since most hit a block. I know Deku." He interrupted, making Izumi chuckle.
While the word seemed insulting to some Izumi knew he only called her that because he had first messed up the pronunciation of her name when they were three and had been too embarrassed to correct himself.
So while the word itself could mean 'Useless' Izumi knew it hadn't meant to hurt her. "After all Kaachan's greatest weakness is his pride." She thought. That day the pair began their first official step down the path to becoming Pokémon trainers and Izumi knew things would only get more interesting from here.
Chapter One
"This place is huge!" A pair of teenagers yelled internally as they approached the large learning facility of UA academy. Next to them a pair of Pokémon looked up in shock as well.
"Qui…" One called out a plume of fire above its head while another burned near its backside.
"Esp…"
"Don't worry Sunny! This is what we've been training for!" Izumi said to her Espeon the evolution of choice of her little Eevee partner.
The green-haired teen had her hair pulled into a bun to keep it out of her eyes, a black t-shirt covered by a green vest, a pair of green track pants with white stripes, and a pair of bright red boots.
"Espeon!" Sunny called back, getting pumped up.
"Quilava!" Blaze the Quilava answered back making Izumi chuckle.
"Well no use waiting around here. Let's go!" Bakugo said, making Izumi nod as the pair and their partners walked towards the main building. He was wearing one of his favorite black t-shirts with a white skull on the front, blue jeans, and black tennis shoes.
The group walked looking all around. "Today we take our first step! Today we become students of UA! Today…I'm going to die!" Izumi thought as her foot tapped against a rock on the ground causing her to trip and fall towards the ground.
"Whoa there!" A new voice called making Izumi find herself floating in the air.
"Careful." The voice said allowing Izumi to look and see another girl their age, or at least she thought she was since she seemed more…mature compared to most.
The young woman in question was easily five feet eight inches tall, with black hair that was up in a ponytail with the ends runnin around the left side of her head.
She wore a red sweater that showed off that she was rather…gifted in certain departments, black jeans, a pair of white boots, and had a red and white handbag hanging off her shoulder. "She's beautiful." Izumi thought with a small blush.
"I hope you don't mind Psi using his Psychic to keep you from falling?" She said motioning to her side. Standing next to her was a fox-like Pokémon with a yellow body, brown shoulder guards, a large yellow tail, and a red star on their forehead.
They were also holding a single spoon. "Oh wow a Kadabra!" Izumi called out as she continued to float in the air.
"I'd heard they were quite powerful, but to be able to hold a human so easily!" Izumi called out as she began to nerd out while pulling out a notebook out of thin air as she rushed to draw.
"Did you raise him from an egg, or did you receive him as an Abra? What dietary needs differ from other Psychic types? Does he ever let go of the spoon when there's no chance of battle? *Mutter, mutter, mutter*" Izumi rushed her questions before once more falling into her old habit of muttering her questions when they came too fast for the normal person to answer.
"OI DEKU! STOP MUTTERING!" Katsuki yelled, making Izumi jump in fright before she looked to see Katsuki with his annoyed expression, Sunny sitting there with a facepalm at his trainers' antics, and Blaze just had an amused smirk on his face.
"Sorry I…"
"In order he was given to me by my parents as an Abra, there are no specific dietary needs that are different, but he does prefer more savory tastes to his food, he does let go of the spoon when we are at home, or in a place where he feels relaxed, and…" The brunette answered showing she had easily been following along and had been waiting for a chance to answer.
"…finally yes I did choose his species name to work as a nickname…mainly because I couldn't produce anything more imaginative. It's not my strong suit. I'm Momo Yaoyorozu." She said with a smile on her face.
"Izumi Midoriya…could you please put me down now?" Izumi introduced making Momo blink before she realized Psi still had her floating in the air.
"Oh yes of course! Psi please bring her down." She said with a blush burning on her face. The Psi Pokémon nodded as he lowered his arms allowing Izumi to land on her feet.
"Thank you. This is Sunny, my partner." Izumi said as her Espeon walked over and joined her.
"Oh he's beautiful, and such a shiny coat you must get all your vitamins!" Momo said as she knelt and started scratching Sunny under his chin getting a pleased purr from the sun Pokémon.
"Thank you. Sunny likes his meals to be slightly sweet, so I tend to make sure he takes supplements to make sure he gets his full nutrition." Izumi explained as she walked over and started looking Psi over.
"Speaking of which…is Psi here a Shiny Pokémon?" Izumi asked. Shiny Pokémon were Pokémon that stood out because they had unusual colored coats compared to the average of their species.
For instance Psi was paler than the average Kadabra all around meaning he stood out compared to the usual members of his breed. "Yes he is. That is well spotted." Momo said the pair seemed to be ready to continue if not for the interruption of another.
"I hate to break up this little nerd fest but in case you two have forgotten…WE NEED TO GO TAKE THE ENTRANCE EXAMS!" Katsuki shouted, making both girls jump before they gained worried expressions.
"He's right! I wish we could keep talking, but…" Izumi started before Momo pulled out her phone.
"Here." She said tapping it against Izumi's since she had taken it out to take photos of Psi. A moment later the phones made a tone allowing Izumi to see a new contact had been added to her phone.
"Message me later and we can continue our talk! Good luck!" Momo called as she and Psi rushed off towards their testing site.
Izumi smiled as she rushed off with Katsuki and their partners. "So finally pulled a girl's number huh Deku?" Katsuki asked making Izumi go atomic red as they rushed off.
"Not the time Kaachan!" She yelled in embarrassment.
The written exam hadn't been hard for either of them since the pair had spent hours and hours studying for them. Now they just had to wait for the practical exams which involved a battle with a fellow examinee.
"Welcome!" An adult with his blond hair up like a cockatoo, he wore a leather jacket with speakers around his head to project his voice, a pair of stylish orange glasses, and looked like a rock artist all around.
"Wow Present Mic!" Izumi internally called out. Present Mic was one of many professional Trainers employed by UA as a teacher. Present Mic specialized in electric types and sound-based Pokémon.
When he wasn't teaching he ran a popular radio show that not only played popular music but updates on the league tournament, contest highlights, and even updated on which popular showcase participants had moved up in ranks or had lowered in ranking.
"Today all of you hopeful applicants will soon take part in the practical part of our entrance exams. Can I get a 'YEAH!'?" When no one answered him, Present Mic sighed.
"Tough crowd." He grumbled before clearing his throat.
"In a few minutes you will be assigned a test site and number. Once in your designated site you will face off against a fellow applicant in a battle." He said as a screen lit up showing different blocks with the letters A-D labeling them.
"The battles are completely random and thus neither you nor they will be able to prepare beyond what you've brought with you."
"Excuse me?!" A voice called making Izumi and Katsuki look to see a tall blue haired boy with glasses on his face. He wore a professional looking blue suit with a red tie.
"Yes examinee number 11817?" Present Mic asked.
"Are we allowed to use items and potions in these battles?!" The teen asked his hand moving up and down in a robotic-like fashion.
"There's a guy that needs to get laid." Katsuki whispered to Izumi, causing her to snort lightly at the joke.
"Simply put…no. No items nor potions will be allowed during these battles. They are meant to test not only your skill training your partners up to now, but to see how you handle stressful situations since not all Pokémon events allow the use of such items." Present Mic explained.
"That makes sense. After all, not all of us are trying to be trainers and most events will toss you out if they find out you used a power up or a potion." Izumi said in a low tone making Katsuki nod this time.
"Thank you! Also you two!" The pair blinked when the blue haired teen turned towards them. "Your muttering is distracting! If you can't take…"
"Finish that sentence and they won't have to wait for us to go to a battle arena to see a battle." Katsuki said, making the teen blink while the whispers and snickers that had appeared from his words suddenly went silent.
"If you had listened you would've heard the pair of us were agreeing with Present Mic about the rules and were planning for what was to come. Instead of talking down to us, how about you just focus on yourself…while you still can." Katsuki threatened, his red eyes turning fiery at the accusation the blue haired teen had almost thrown towards them.
Izumi placed her hand on his shoulder causing Katsuki to look at her. "Don't bother Bakugo. After all…only those who are unprepared for such events try to talk down to others like that." She pointed out giving the teen a very pointed glare making him flinch back.
Katsuki smirked as he faced front and motioned to Present Mic to continue while the blue haired teen sank into his seat. "The moment I tell the hag about this part she's going to scream out to the sky that she's trained you well." He whispered to Izumi causing her to sigh but internally agreed.
"Now then during the battles each of you will be scored for a variety of points. Overall health of your partner, battle strategy, and more. The total of these battle points along with your written scores will determine your placement. So remember winning today does not guarantee you a place. If you gain enough points you will be entered into our Pokémon curriculum…if not you may still enter our Gen Ed classes to one day try and earn a spot. Good luck to you all and remember go beyond…" "PLUS ULTRA!" The entire stadium called out using the school's motto to pump themselves up.
"I've got site A and was assigned number 11748. You?" Katsuki asked, looking at the slip of paper he had been given at the exam tables.
"Site B and number 12245. Looks like we'll have to wait for our battle." Izumi said, making Katsuki snort.
"As if either of us were going to risk facing off with anything but a full team." He said, making Izumi chuckle.
The pair had been friends for so long neither doubted the other could get into the school of their dreams. The only question was which of them would get a higher placement in the exams.
"Just make sure to handle the extra quickly…the hag said Auntie Inko is making our victory meal tonight." Katsuki said, making Izumi laugh again. Katsuki loved her mothers cooking…especially because she was the only one who could make a bowl of udon that made the fire eater mother and son shovel it down instead of fighting the entire time.
"That explained the extra strength bottle of Endeavor sponsored hot sauce she made me pick up the other day." Izumi commented, noticing the slight twitch in Katsuki's lips before a hint of drool appeared in said corner.
"Say what you will about the jerk…the man knows his hot sauce." Katsuki commented before the pair separated and headed to the nearby depots where buses waited for them.
Once there Izumi noticed a girl with a brown bob cut who was nervously writing something on her hand before making to eat it over and over.
Izumi walked over and gently placed her hand on the girls' shoulder causing her to jump and cry out a bit in surprise. "Are you okay? You looked a little stressed." She said in a gentle tone causing the girl to blink a pair of big brown eyes.
"Yeah…I'm just nervous is all." She said as she scratched the back of her head showing off her pink marked cheeks. Making it look like she had a permanent blush on her face.
"Well don't worry. Remember just do your best and trust in your partner. After all you've spent years working together to get to this place." Izumi said with a bright smile making the girl sigh a bit as she relaxed her shoulders.
"You're right. Oh! I'm Ochacho Uraraka." She said, offering her hand. Izumi shook it.
"Izumi Midoriya, nice to meet you." Izumi said as the pair turned when the bus doors opened, and they walked forward with their fellow applicants. Izumi and Ochacho wowed when they arrived at the large battle stadium where they would be facing their fellow applicants.
"Welcome to site B." The pair looked to see a woman wearing a dominatrix like outfit complete with a handheld whip.
"I am the eighteen plus coordinator Midnight!" She introduced to those who didn't know her.
"Wow…so she is always in costume?" Izumi asked, making Ochacho shrug.
"In a moment your numbers will be displayed on the screen behind me…" Midnight motioned to the monitor behind her as it lit up. "Come and find your numbers before heading off to the area where you will battle. If you fail to show up you fail completely.
Pokémon will be inspected beforehand to make sure none have any battle items. Bags and persons will be searched for potions and other health items. If you are worried about healing your Pokémon, each stadium holds a first aid station located over there." She motioned towards a red roofed area where a few medical staff stood waiting.
"Your battles will be reviewed by the entire staff before your scores are decided. Good luck and let's have a good battle." Midnight said before the screen started filling with numbers.
"Looks like I'm off to area six." Ochacho motioned to her number while Izumi found hers.
"And I'm off to area three. Oh before I forget." Izumi took out her phone making Ochacho blush as she pulled out her flip phone. Izumi blinked before chuckling as she took the older tech and entered her number before sending a text to herself so she would have her new friend's number.
"Break a leg." Izumi said, making Ochacho nod before they split up. Izumi wondered until she arrived at a door with the number three clearly marked.
"Here we are." She thought before opening the door to find two others waiting. A blond boy with a flamboyant look to him, and a girl with ginger hair that was done up in the style of a pineapple.
"Hello." She said getting a nod from the Gi wearing girl. "Enchanté Mademoiselle." The boy said with a slight bow making Izumi smile as she returned the bow.
She joined them in waiting before three other students arrived. "Welcome to area three. Examinees 12245 and 12266 to the field." A robotic voice called making Izumi blinked.
"Starting off huh? Should be interesting." She thought as she and a bulky teen wearing a vest and baggy pants made their ways down.
"Please release your Pokémon for inspection." The robot voice said as a pair of lab coat wearing adults walked out.
"Come on out Sunny!" Izumi called, throwing a Cherish ball into the air making her Espeon appear with a shake of his ears.
"Magmar, let's get this over with!" The bulky teen said as he released his fire type. Izumi looked at the Spitfire Pokémon. It looked strong, but the way it seemed to slightly turn its back on its trainer told her the pair didn't bond very well which meant he hadn't raised his Magmar from a Magby.
Both Pokémon were looked over before being given all clear to continue. Izumi walked over to the blue corner while her opponent headed to the red one.
"This will be a one-on-one match between applicants to determine their placements. Trainers are aware of the rules any violation will result in immediate expulsion from the exam and forfeit of place at UA. Are you ready?" Both nodded before the voice spoke up again. "Begin!" It called.
"Magmar Ember!" The bulky teen called, causing a spew of small fireballs to be spat out from its lips.
"Use Dig to dodge!" Izumi called, making Sunny nod as he suddenly dug into the ground and vanished from sight, allowing the fire-type attack to pass by harmlessly.
In a darkened room shadowed figures watched the battles from different sites. One screen showed Izumi and Sunny against the Magmar. "Inventive. Not many think to teach such a move to their partner to be used as a means of avoiding damage." A short man petting a corgi like Pokémon that was sitting on his lap.
He wore a white dress shirt, a red vest, khaki pants, and a pair of sharp looking shoes. "Indeed. Many think all they must do is yell 'Dodge' and things will work out." A long-haired shadow said. This man had long messy black hair while wearing a black outfit with a scarf around his neck.
"Not to mention 'Dig' in a good move to teach any Eeveelution since it can be used to cover many of their weaknesses." He added as the Espeon rose from the ground and scored a direct hit.
"Although she probably should've prepared for Magmars ability." Another shadow this one a male with a yellow shovel-like helmet on their head.
"She did." The long-haired shadow said as both Espeon and Magmar suddenly flinched as a slight flame gathered around them.
"What the…?! What did you do to my Magmar?!" The bulky teen demanded making Izumi raise an eyebrow. They heard the recorded voices from the monitor.
"Sunny has the ability Synchronize. This means if my Pokémon suffers a status effect…so does yours." She explained.
The bulky teen growled. "That doesn't mean you're going to win! Flame Wheel!" He called as Magmar gathered fire around its body and rolled forward.
"Rain Dance!" Izumi called as Sunny glowed blue and suddenly the field was covered in a rainstorm.
"Cleaver using a move that can weaken fire attacks during an attack." The long-haired teacher said as a white-haired teacher next to him nodded.
The flame wheel was weakened enough that parts of Magmar were in focus before Izumi called out her next move. "Confusion!" Sunny glowed pink before a flash was seen making Magmar flinch as his attack failed to land a hit and fazed out as a result.
The bulky teen growled again. "Smog!" He yelled, making Magmar nod as spewed out a fog of purple mist into the air.
"Like we practiced, use Sand Attack to disperse it!" Izumi called out making Sunny nod as he started shaking about causing the dirt around him to rise and flow.
The dirt and mist met, and the teen blinked in surprise as his poison attack was stopped. "Again clever since Rain Dance is still in effect, moves like Smog and Smokescreen are already going to be weakened due to the environment change, but to use that along with another status ability to stop any damage all together…I might actually like this applicant." The long-haired teacher said, making the group around him blink in surprise.
"Now quickly Swift!" Izumi called out as Sunny opened his jaw and sent a beam of stars at the fire type. Magmar cried out as it was hit again and again by the attack.
"Goddamn it can't you do anything right?!" The bulky teen shouted in annoyance.
"And…he's expelled." The teacher said marking down an automatic failing grade for this exam.
"Agreed. Anyone who would yell at their partner like that doesn't deserve them." The white-haired teacher said, getting murmurs of agreement from the others.
"Focus Punch!" He yelled, making Magmar stand still glowing red, making Izumi sigh.
"Finish this with Take Down!" She called making Sunny nod before a white glow appeared around him.
He rushed forward and struck the Magmar in the center causing it to cry out in pain. The pair both flinched as their burned effect happened and Magmar moaned before it fell forward and passed out.
"What?! NO!" The teen yelled before a blue flag was raised.
"Magmar is unable to battle! The winner is examinee 12245. Examinee 12266…" Before the robot could continue the bulky teen growled and ran forward ready to kick the downed Magmar only to yelp as a booted heel smashed into his face.
"I don't think so!" Izumi yelled out glaring at the now bruised teen as they looked up at the sky in shock. "If you even try and harm this Pokémon I will beat you within an inch of your life then cut off the part of you that decrees you a man!" She yelled her green eyes blazing with righteous fury.
"Yep…it's official. I like her." The Long-haired teacher said as a pair of security personnel walked out and apprehended the bulky teen while the medical group went to collect the injured Magmar.
They also handed Izumi a Burn heal for Sunny as they moved away.
Izumi sighed as she knelt and cured Sunny before she scratched him under his chin. "You did great Sunny. I'm so proud of you bud." She said getting a happy yip from Sunny before she returned him to his Pokéball.
"At the very least that girl has the heart of a true champion. I look forward to seeing where she'll go." Another teacher, this one bulkier than the others while wearing a yellow pinstripe suit.
Izumi watched the other two battles. The flamboyant boy won his match with his Roselia giving off a good show against his opponents Wooper, while the ginger haired girl wearing a Gi defeated the only other girl in their room. Her Sawk showing off his strength against a Galarian variant of a Linoone.
"Thank you applicants. Your results will be sent to you in the mail in a week. Good luck." The robot-like voice said, making the five remaining teens nod as they stood up and left.
Izumi stopped at the medical area to fully heal Sunny and blinked when a familiar voice called her attention.
"Izumi!" She looked to see Ochacho waving towards her frantically as she rushed up.
"I take it that things went well?" She asked once the pink cheeked girl stopped in front of her.
"Yep. Cutie and I won our match." She said holding up her Pokéball.
"Cutie?" Izumi asked, making Ochacho blush slightly. "Well…can you blame me?" She asked as she tossed the ball into the air.
Soon a small round Pokémon appeared with its body covered in an egg with red and blue triangles covering the shell and a spiky white head and stub like limbs appeared. "Aww a Togepi!" Izumi called out as she lifted the little Spike Ball Pokémon.
"Oh aren't you just adorable!" She asked as she rubbed her cheek against the Pokémon getting a happy chirping sound from the little one.
"I know right. The first moment I saw her I knew I would never come up with a better nickname." Ochacho said, making Izumi chuckle as a tone chimed.
"Miss. Midoriya, your Pokémon is healed." The medical student said, making her nod.
"Thank you. Let me introduce you to my partner." She said as she released Sunny once more making the Espeon shake his fur out and stretch out.
"Oh wow he's cute." Ochacho said as she scratched Sunny behind the ear getting a purr from the Sun Pokémon.
The pair continued to talk as they headed back towards the buses.
"Ah there you are Kaachan!" Izumi called when she saw the ash blond waiting.
"Took you long enough. Who's round face?"
"Round face?" Ochacho asked, wondering if she should feel insulted or not.
"Katsuki gives everyone nicknames like that. He isn't being insulting…for the most part." Izumi explained making Ochacho blink before she nodded.
"This is Ochacho and her partner Cutie. Ochacho, this is my Godbrother Katsuki and his partner Blaze." Ochacho offered her hand, getting a quick shake.
"What is it with girls and cutesy nicknames?" He asked Izumi who shrugged.
"Why do boys always try so hard to come up with something cool only to fall flat?" She asked back, making him blink before shrugging.
"Fair enough." He said, making Izumi giggle.
"Anyway, are you staying nearby? I know the trip back to the outskirts of the island is long." Izumi said to Ochacho who scratched the back of her head.
"I was going to see if any of the nearby Pokémon Centers had any rooms free. I didn't get a chance before the exam since my parents wanted to drive me before they went to work." Ochacho explained making Izumi and Katsuki flinch with a hiss.
"By now all the centers are full for the night…and most of the hotels are expensive this time of year." Katsuki bluntly explained making Ochacho sighed dismayed at the information.
"Hang on." Izumi said before pulling out her phone and moving off.
"Um…?"
"She's calling Auntie to see if you can use their spare room. Knowing the pair of them…they're going to insist on it. So don't try and fight it." He explained getting a nod from Blaze.
"Good news!" Izumi called out when she returned, making the pair look towards her. "Mom says our spare room is free and she already had extra for dinner tonight!" Izumi called out in happiness, bouncing slightly.
"Incoming!" Katsuki called out as he and Blaze turned away. Ochacho wondered why they did that before her field of vision was suddenly filled with a bright glow.
She covered her face as a bright warm glow appeared around Izumi's head like a halo. "So…wholesome!" Ochacho called out internally. "If…if you're sure I won't be a bother." She found herself saying making the light lower slightly.
"Not at all! This is going to be great! I can't wait to introduce you to mom!" Izumi said, bouncing in place, her eyes shut as she smiled widely.
"Like I said, don't try to fight it…the cuteness scale won't let you." Katsuki said as he returned Blaze and started to lead them away from UA.
