"And as the Clone Wars still rage on, I, Satine Kryze, Duchess of Mandalore, will still refuse to join in the effort of the war. We are a pacifist planet and we will remain that way." Satine declares as she gives a speech at a Senate meeting she is attending today for Mandalore, once again reminding the Chancellor watching from his comm and all of her people on how she feels about this war.
She continues her speech and is about to bid farewell when all of a sudden Obi-Wan, her guard for the speech, shouts at her.
"Move out of the way!" Obi-Wan shouts, she turns to him quickly but then is thrown onto the ground, into cover behind a podium, Obi-Wan barreling into her. Before she barrels into the ground, she hears a gunshot and feels Obi-Wan jerk as he tackles her.
"Ben? Ben, you need to get off me now!" Satine frantically states, but she is unheard due to all the screaming and panicking from the Senators and Lords. She feels something warm drip onto her dress, she quickly touches her dress and gasp as she pulls away her hand which is now covered in blood.
"Ben!" Satine shouts and with all her strength, pushes him off of her. He tumbles to her side, and she sees him unconsciously groan. She scans over him and then finds the source of the blood, making her stomach churn as she looks at his neck.
"Oh no, please no!" Satine whimpers as she rushes to his side. She takes her hands and presses them to his neck to stem the bleeding, however, her attempts prove useless as blood seeps through her fingers. She looks at the injury and it appears that it pierced the side of his neck, cutting an artery.
"Ben, you have to wake up, please wake up," Satine begs and miraculously, Obi-Wan does.
"Ine? Safe?" Obi-Wan manages to say as he groans in pain.
"Yes, yes, I'm safe, you saved me." Satine sniffles.
"Good, good," Obi-Wan replies, drifting off. Satine shakes her head and frantically shakes her head but regrets it as Obi-Wan gives out a painful whimper.
"A medic will be here in a minute, Ben, you have to stay awake." Satine pleads and Obi-Wan is looking paler by the second as he succumbs to blood loss.
"Can't," Obi-Wan mutters as he fights to stay awake.
"Nononono, you have to stay awake, Ben! What about us, or me? And remember your padawans? And the war? You need to bring peace to the war and everyone who loves you, we need you, Ben!" Satine begs.
"M'at peace. Saved you. You're alive." Obi-Wan says, looking her in the eyes, and she knows deep inside, that these are the last words that she will ever hear from her cyare. "You're alive, and m'at peace," Obi-Wan whispers and then breathes his last, his head falling motionlessly to the side.
She runs her fingers through his auburn hair and cries, devastated. An hour later, her guards find her kneeling by Obi-Wan, tears running down her face, and completely unaware of her surroundings.
It's been 3 days since Ben's funeral, and Satine is in her room, refusing to leave as she drowns in her grief. Ben had died 7 days ago from the blood loss, and she hasn't gotten out of her quarters since then, she had only gotten out to attend his funeral.
Skywalker and Tano were there, or like how Ben used to say, both of his padawans were there, Tano was sobbing as she saw her Master on pyre and Skywalker looked dark, his face grim and his eyes cold and unsettling.
Most of the Jedi attended too, Master Yoda looking every bit his 900 years, Master Koon was even weeping when the pyre was lit, and to her surprise, even Master Windu had tears in his eyes as he watched his long-time friend's funeral.
She recognized Healer Eerin and Master Vos from all the stories Ben had told her and they too were weeping, yet Vos still looked murderous in his grieved state. She recognized Master Che as she was one of the most devastated there, she was clutching Ben's saber and leaning on Master Koon as she cried.
Even Senator Organa and Senator Amidala were there, they too looked grieved. She recognized one of the guests though and let out a watery huff as she remembered the old diner Ben would bring her to whenever they were together on Coruscant. Dex was standing next to Tano and he too looked sad, she remembers Ben telling her that he had known Dex since he was a child, she can only imagine how much grief he must be in.
Lastly, she spots the whole battalion of the 501st and the 212th. They all have their helmets tucked underneath their arms in respect. Captain Rex had an arm around Commander Cody for support as he looked devastated and his eyes were all glassy and puffy like he had been crying before.
And after the funeral, she just went back to Mandalore, she remained in her quarters, and she will continuously do so. Her body is numb and she feels as if it is shutting down from all her emotions.
She sighs from her spot at the window, overlooking Mandalore, and heads back to her bed, where she sinks into her covers. Unconsciousness greets her and she happily drifts off into a painless sleep.
"Wake up, darling." A warm and familiar voice whispers, waking her from her slumber, but no, it couldn't be, he's dead. She shoots up from her pillow and her eyes widen as she is met with her cyare's face.
"Ben? How? You're dead!" Satine declares and Obi-Wan's eyes look over her concerned. He reaches out for her hand and grabs it, squeezing it gently.
"It was just a nightmare, dear, I'm right here, I promise." Obi-Wan gently whispers, they're interrupted though when a baby starts crying. Obi-Wan lets out a small laugh.
"Looks like Holly is already up," Obi-Wan says, getting out of bed. He walks over to her and kisses her on her head. "You rest for a few minutes; I'll deal with Holly and Vokara." He leaves the room, still in his pajamas and his hair all messy.
"Holly? Vokara?" Satine questions. She rushes to the fresher and quickly gets freshens up and then heads into the hallway leading to the kitchen, she looks around the house and then recognizes that this is an old house that her parents would bring her and Bo to during the summer.
She stops in her tracks when she hears Ben softly whispering to the baby. "Sh, sh, it's okay. You're just a bit cranky this morning, aren't you, my love?"
She looks over to see Obi-Wan rocking the crying baby in his arms, while he warms up a milk bottle. The baby has a small fluff of hair, dark blonde with bright blue eyes, resembling her own.
She looks to the side and sees a little girl, about 7 years old, walking into the kitchen from a different hallway.
"What's for breakfast, daddy?" She asks. She too has blue eyes but they're more like Ben's, having some grey in them too, her hair is almost the shade of Ben's, only a bit lighter.
"How about a warm bottle of milk?" Obi-Wan smirks and the kid laughs.
"Daddy! I'm not a baby like Holly!" She giggles.
"Okay, okay." Obi-Wan laughs. "How about I make some chocolate pancakes?"
"Yay! My favorite! Thank you, daddy!" She squeals and Obi-Wan laughs at his daughter's excitement.
"Let's get you in your highchair, sweetie." Obi-Wan gently sits Holly down in the highchair after getting her to drink and leaves a bowl of a mushy substance on her tray.
"Hey, daddy? Why can't she eat pancakes like us?" Vokara curiously asks.
"Well, Kara, she doesn't have all of her teeth yet, she's only a 1-year-old," Obi-Wan explains.
"Hm, more pancakes for me then." Vokara shrugs and Obi-Wan ruffles her hair. "Hey!"
Satine takes a deep breath and then walks into the kitchen.
"Mommy!" Vokara exclaims and runs over to her, hugging her. She hesitates for a second and then envelops the young girl in her arms, she looks over to Obi-Wan who is looking at her with worried eyes.
"Kara, can you get the chocolate chips please?" Obi-Wan asks and Kara quickly rushes off to the fridge. Obi-Wan puts down the batter he had just put together and goes to her.
"Are you okay, darling?" Obi-Wan asks worriedly.
"I'm okay, I think my brain is just being slow today." Satine lies and she can tell Obi-Wan doesn't believe her.
"If you're not alright, I can tell Ambria you won't be working today." Obi-Wan states and Satine shakes her head.
"I'm alright, I promise," Satine assures and Obi-Wan reluctantly goes back to the kitchen counter where Vokara is now eating the chips.
"Eating the chips without me, Kara?" Obi-Wan says and Vokara's eyes widen.
"Sorry, daddy, here you go?" Vokara says and opens her hands revealing melting chips.
"It's quite alright, you can have those, sweetie," Obi-Wan says and resumes baking the pancakes. Kara turns to Satine and goes over to her.
"Ready to pick out my dress for today, mommy?" Vokara asks excitement twinkling in her eyes.
"Um." Satine hesitates.
"Mommy isn't feeling that well today, Kara, how about I pick your dress after I'm done making these pancakes?" Obi-Wan offers but Satine refuses, seeing how busy he already is.
"No, it's fine," Satine says.
"Are you sure?" Obi-Wan asks and Satine nods.
"I'm sure, now how about you show me where your wardrobe is?" Satine asks Kara and Kara takes her hand, leading her to her bedroom. A full bed is in the center of the room, with blue butterflies dangling above. Bright blue colors on the walls and the floor are a nice wood color. Toy bins are to the right of the room and a closet with a mirror to the side decorated in butterflies is to the left.
Vokara goes over to the closet and opens it, revealing a lot of navy, blue, purple, and grey dresses. Satine heads over to the side of the closet door where pictures are pinned to the wall. She recognizes one where Master Che has her arm around Kara, hugging her.
"Hey, Kara, do you want to come and tell me about your pictures," Satine asks Kara, she looks at her confused and then lights up at the thought of showing her.
"Okay!" She grabs the one with Master Che and points to her. "This was when Grandma took me to see the butterfly garden at the Temple where daddy grew up, that was fun!" She says and then grabs one where she sees Skywalker has Kara on his shoulders. "This is when we went to Naboo to visit Aunt Padme and Uncle Ani, he picked me up and ran with me around the yard, but daddy got mad because he almost dropped me, but daddy quickly caught me with the force." She says giggling. "That was fun, I was floating!"
She then shows her a picture of herself laughing, covered in bright blue paint, and Vokara covered in paint too. "Remember this, this is when you let me help paint my room! And then we had a paint battle and then daddy came in and found us and almost passed out because of the mess!" Vokara giggles.
"Yes, that sounds like him, doesn't it." Satine laughs.
"And then this is when Holly was born." Vokara fondly says and shows her a picture of Satine smiling holding Holly and Vokara to her side with Obi-Wan behind Satine, his arm around her shoulder, smiling.
"That's a beautiful picture," Satine says, tears in her eyes.
"Yeah, it's all of us together, like daddy says, a happy family!" Vokara exclaims, Satine nods and gulps down a sob, and then she realizes something.
"And what does daddy do?" She asks and Vokara looks at her confused. "I mean what does he do for a job?"
"Daddy doesn't work, mommy, you do, cause you're Duchess of Mandalore! Daddy stays home and takes care of me and Holly while you have to go into the city for your meetings and stuff." Vokara explains. "Are you okay, mommy, you're acting weird."
"I'm okay, darling, just forgetting a few things," Satine assures, and Vokara nods.
"Okay, can you pick a dress so I can go and see if the pancakes are done, please!" Vokara begs and Satine laughs.
"Okay, Kara." Satine laughs and picks out a blue dress with little purple butterflies on it.
"Thank you, mommy!" Kara says after dressing and rushes out of the room toward the kitchen. Satine follows and watches as Ben serves the pancakes to Kara, himself, and herself. She stares at Ben as he tickles Vokara into sitting at the table instead of the counter.
"You okay, darling?" Ben asks after he got Vokara to sit down. She tears up and stumbles on her words as she chokes down a sob.
"Oh, darling, it's okay," Ben says and hugs her. "Perhaps you should rest," Ben says and leads her back to their bedroom. He gently tucks her into bed, and she feels so warm and loved that it makes her tear up more.
"What's wrong, dear?" Ben whispers, concerned.
"I… You did, Ben. And then now I'm all alone and this is all fake." Satine admits. "And that when I wake up, you won't be there anymore." Satine cries.
"This is real, just like my love for you is real." Obi-Wan comforts. "And if I am fake, then I will still be with you, always, in here," Obi-Wan says and points to her heart. "I have loved you always and will love you always, no matter if I'm dead or alive, I will always be with you, darling, always."
"I love you, Ben. And I always will, I will always cherish our memories and I will never forget you or stop thinking about you. And I look forward to the day I can see you again." Satine whispers and Ben looks at her confused for a moment and then he plays along for her sake.
"And I love you, my dear. But never stop going on with your life, and never give up when life gets hard. If I am truly gone and truly fake, then I want you to live the rest of your life in happiness, not drowning in grief and becoming a ghost of the woman I love. I love you, Satine, and I will be with you always." Ben says and Satine nods, Ben leans down and kisses her forehead as she drifts off.
"She's awake! Alert the doctors!" Someone says and Satine recognizes that voice.
"Ambria?" Satine asks and someone sighs in relief.
"Satine! Oh, my Force! I thought you were dead!" Ambria hugs her as she sits up from her medical bed.
"What happened?" Satine asks confused.
"I went to look for you because the Senate wished to speak with you and then I found you and you were unresponsive." Ambria explains. "The doctors said you passed out due to the lack of taking care of yourself."
"Oh, Ambria, I'm sorry you had to deal with that," Satine comforts.
"I know you were close to Master Kenobi, Satine, but the people who are still here love you and don't want to see you slip away," Ambria admits and then Satine remembers her dream or was it a dream? She tears up and then remembers what Ben had said to her.
"I'm sorry, Ambria, I shouldn't have shut you out. I was so lost in grief that I wasn't thinking about everyone else." Satine admits. "I don't think I will ever stop grieving his death, but I still have to go on with my life, it's what he would want, but I will never forget," Satine says, and tears well up in her eyes.
"I'm truly sorry for your loss, Satine. I'll give you a moment before the doctors come barging in here." Ambria says, sensing she needed a moment alone. She gets up from her chair and leaves the room, quietly closing the door behind her.
Satine puts a hand to her heart and closes her eyes. "I'll miss you, Ben, until the day we unite again. I love you, forever and always."
Hehehe, sorry if this broke y'all hearts! XD Hope you guys liked it, I tried to stay as realistic as possible, well as realistic based on star wars. lol. Have a great day everyone! Love y'all 3000 and may the force be with you!
Plz comment if you liked it! Also, I don't know about you guys, but I think when Ben and Satine were talking that was like giving closure to her because she never got to really say goodbye to Ben. Also, I plan on like adding maybe a second part to this, where the Satine from Ben's life wakes up, just a small fluff moment. XD
And did anybody notice I named Vokara after Ben's mom, Vokara Che?! Probably, and then Kara called her GRANDMA! I honestly loved writing that part! lol
