It's not very hard to find any of the Pevensie's; as long as you know where to look. Whenever the Kings and Queens have a day off from their duties; they tend to scatter to different parts of the Castle. Edmund loved to put his mind into good use so he's usually in the library which at first it was odd for Ruby to constantly find him in there. It wasn't until curiosity got the best of her and she peeked in only to find out that he was always playing chess with someone or reading the old military books. He always told Ruby that his favorite book of all time back at their home was King Arthur and the Stone Table but Ruby never heard of a king like that so he spared no time in telling her the story and would repeat it whenever he got the chance.
Sweet Lucy was always found wandering the gardens with Mr. Tumnus, saying hello to all the creatures that weren't afraid to run up to the Castle walls. Out of all of the siblings, she was the one who was by far the most sociable. She could spend hours talking to everyone and when they leave, it is almost as if she became their best friend. Ruby loves to spend time with the youngest but being that she was an introvert, she could only take so much socializing with others.
Peter was the only one that seems to have changed out of the four. He used to love horseback riding but lately his new hobby was preparing for the baby. Ruby could find him in the nursery any time, figuring out which decor would be displayed around the room when it came time to know if his first child was to be a prince or princess.
Susan was the most clever out of her siblings. Whenever she wanted time away, she could be found locked in a tower filled with dresses, books, anything her heart desired in her little nook, and that is where the High Queen Consort found her.
Susan glanced up to see Ruby come in through the door, "You really should be careful when you walk up the stairs. I talked to Mrs. Beaver, she said that she thinks you should be resting"
"I'm fine" Ruby sighed, "I just wanted to come and see how everyone was doing"
"I see" Susan noted as she placed her book down, "So what did Peter wanted you to discuss with me"
Ruby smiled and turned to her, "Are you sure you are not a sage?"
"Against popular belief, I am not" Susan cracked a smile, "I just know my siblings; come, my handmaiden just came up with scones and lemonade"
"Thank you" Ruby walked over.
She knew this was an invitation from Susan as she picked up the scone and sat on one of the lounge chairs.
"He is just worried about you, is all" Ruby began, "He wants you and the others to be happy and he believes that could be achieved by a sort of event that we did just a year ago. Peter thinks that a marriage through love is better than a marriage through duty. We've already achieved unity with Peter and I, you don't have to go through that sort of thing, Susan. What do you think?"
Susan cracked a smile, "You know, you are the first to ask me that; what do you think? Everyone else is pushing me to get married which I agree to but also that I do not care to meet the male until our wedding day. Which is utterly ironic seeing how much pressure I am under to do such a thing. I wonder why that is"
Ruby blinked in surprise at that question as she said, "I- I do not know, Susan. You do bring up a fair point. Have you never thought about marrying for love?"
"Oh! Of course I have" Susan got up and walked over to the tall glass doors, "But something changed within me when I became the High Queen of Narnia. I started to see my wants and needs as feeble compared to the needs of my people. I truly believe that I should find someone to be paired with from a different elemental than air"
As if for dramatic effect, Susan opened the glass door windows to let the breeze fill the tower. The tower was high enough to mimic the effects of how it felt to fly, which is why Ruby loved to come into the tower ever since she was cautioned against flying. Ruby smiled as she felt the cool breeze touch her face, not realizing how warm it was in Susan's Tower. When she opened her eyes, she noticed her sister-in-law had crossed the floor and opened the small window opposite of the balcony doors; creating a cross breeze. She then walked over and joined Ruby on the lounge chair instead of being opposite of her.
"You've been stretching your wings, right?" Susan asked, "Three times a day?"
Ruby gave Susan a cornered look before she said, "Yes, and do not think to change the subject. Why do you feel the need to marry someone different from me?"
Susan explained, "It isn't that it's because I do not find your kind appealing, far from it. But what I am thinking is that every creature should be represented as a marriage opportunity. Earth, Fire, or Water creatures should have an opportunity to show true unity amongst its people. I hope one day Edmund and Lucy will hear my counsel when it comes to their turn"
Ruby couldn't help but feel touched by what Susan was saying as she reached over and placed her hand on top of Susan's with a gentle smile. She never really thought about it like that as she realized that Susan's ambitions went farther than herself. Ruby suddenly found herself thinking the way that Susan was and even wondered who would be matched perfectly for each sibling. In a way, Ruby finally understood where the eldest sister was coming from.
"That is very beautiful" Ruby confessed, "Thank you, for thinking that way. I do not believe Edmund and Lucy are thinking about when they will marry but I can see Edmund following your footsteps and marrying for strategic methods… I believe he should have a fire elemental suitor"
Susan giggled, "Poor Edmund will finally have to learn to hold his tongue"
"Easier said than done for him" Ruby giggled, "God, I wonder who Lucy would pick"
"An Earth element" Susan answered, "Someone pretty to look at but it doesn't matter, I'm sure when her time comes 400 suitors will come barging at our gates like some form of attack"
"And Lucy wouldn't have the heart to pick just one so she will marry all" Ruby finished for Susan.
"Oh, yes" Susan groaned, "She could never possibly reject even a flower, poor girl"
Susan and Ruby looked at each other and let out a laugh that probably could've echoed out into the sea. Ruby held onto her womb as if that were going to steady her but feeling her belly jiggle actually made it worse. It took the two women a couple of moments before they finally composed themselves as she sat in silence but with smiles on their faces.
"So to finally answer Peter's question" Susan concluded, "I do not feel obligated to marry someone I just met. I am, in fact, okay with that decision. It gives me less stress to deal with when choosing a suitor. In the next coming days, I'll ask Orieus whose part of Narnia does he seem fit to strengthen the bond with. I do believe he will give me an honest opinion"
Ruby nodded, "As long as you are comfortable with that decision, Susan, no one is pressuring you otherwise"
Susan turned and looked to Ruby as this time she reached out, took a hold of her hand and gave it a comforting grip. Ruby couldn't help but study the woman but noticed that they had no reason to worry about Susan.
"I am more than comfortable with what I have to do for Narnia" Susan sighed, "I am looking forward to a unity with my people as well. But I am rather curious about who you think I should look for first"
Ruby sighed as she looked up to the coned ceiling and thought for a moment, "I think… you should try to start with Water"
Susan's eyebrows furrowed, "Why do you think that?"
"I am just trying to think like you" Ruby explained, "And seeing that Peter married me, a creature of the air, someone who is from a place high above the ground. To me, it could be a logical explanation to marry a creature from water; someone who is technically from a world in the depths of water"
Susan only thought for a split second before smiling and then saying, "Then that is where I will start my search"
