A/N: Hi as promised, I'm going to upload 4 chapters today but I'll post the two first coz the other two need some checking. Probably post them tonight. I have a few updates on this story:

1. I added one line in their text convo (chapter 8 last part), I forgot to add that one sorry.

2. I change the title, I think this will suit the story more :P

It's their last day of community service and Shikamaru wishes he could extend it, so there's a reason for him to be with her. He tried to stop thinking about what Kiba said during the council meeting and tried to act as normal as possible, repressing all of his emotions.

They meet again outside the principal's room, he and Temari were tasked to buy a specific list of software for the computer lab. They drove to different computer and electronic shops in Konoha to complete the list. It was already 2pm when they bought all the software they needed. Shikamaru cherished all the slight touch of their hands while walking, glaring and nodding when agreeing to one thing, eating lunch together, and a lot of little gestures they shared during their community service.

They seated on one of the benches outside, taking a break from their task. Shikamaru pulled out his phone silently while Temari was looking at the sunset. He positions the camera of his phone at her, careful that she might notice, he checked the sound and flash before proceeding. Shikamaru took a photo of her, he'll keep it as a souvenir during their last day together. The sunset in the photo adds beauty to it. He looked at it a little too long then placed the phone back in his pocket.

Temari glared at him and smiled "Last day huh?"

"And you're happy about it?" Shikamaru asked

"I didn't say that" She returned her gaze to the sunset "Can you close your eyes for me?"

"Huh?" He was startled, curious about what she wanted to do

"C'mon close your eyes, it'll be quick" She demanded, her eyes now focused on him.

"Woman, if you're going to prank me, I swear"

"I said close it!"

"Alright" He closed his eyes, waiting for what could possibly be it. Was it a kiss? He said in his mind

After a few minutes, he could feel something placed in his hands. It was warm and soft, he rubbed his fingers on it.

"You can open your eyes now" Temari said

Shikamaru saw a knitted green scarf in his hands "What is this?"

"A thank you gift. For helping me with my college application" she said

"Why? You don't have to" He could feel a warm surge of flush in his face.

"I want to! Just take it"

"Uhm, thanks"

Shikamaru stared at the scarf, he smiled while holding it tightly, making sure that it will not lose in his sight. It was his first time receiving a gift from a girl and it was from Temari. They drove back to school and went home.

The next Saturday he felt empty, Shikamaru stared at his bedroom ceiling wondering what he could do to avoid thinking about it, thinking about her. He moved to their house porch, he tried to entertain himself by watching the clouds. Nothing, still empty.

His hand starts grabbing his phone and glides his fingers to open the photo that he captured last week. He smiled, seeing Temari's photo in his gallery confirming that it was her that he was missing. He glides his finger this time to the messages and starts typing, sending her a text.

What are you doing today?

He placed his phone on his chest while waiting for her reply. A few minutes later he heard the buzzing sound and opened it immediately.

From: Temari

Lunch with Kiba.

He closed his eyes. Of course, you're with Kiba, why are you doing this to yourself Shikamaru? He said to himself.

Shikamaru, Ino, and Choji decided to have dinner at their favorite barbecue place. It's been a while since the trio got together. Ino was busy with her drama club and her boyfriend Sai, Choji was busy with school and his girlfriend Karui, and Shikamaru was busy being an officer at school.

"So, spill me some tea" Ino demanded

"I don't have much to talk about. Well, most of my time was spent on school and Karui" Choji said

"Are you bringing your girlfriend to the ball?" Ino asked

"No, she cannot. She's busy with her judo club"

"Too bad. I'm planning for us to have like a triple date at the ball you know. So, you're going to be a wallflower at the ball?"

"Yup, she's the only one I wanted to dance so I'll probably just enjoy being a watcher and see you two dance. I'll just eat, food could be a better company there"

"How about you Shikamaru? Who are you going to bring?" She moved her gaze to Shikamaru who is now flipping the meat on the grill.

"No one, I'll join Choji being a wallflower" Shikamaru answered

Ino rolled her eyes and starts palming her head "Oh my God! You two will be the death of me"

"Don't be too dramatic Ino, it's just a ball" Shikamaru said while chewing the meat he just picked

"Why you didn't ask Temari?" Ino furiously asked

Shikamaru almost choked on the food that he was chewing "What? Why her?"

"Don't you what, why her me!? I know you, Shika!"

"Temari? The blonde girl? your enemy?" Choji turns his head to Shikamaru and curiously asked him.

Shikamaru placed his chopstick on the table and closed his eyes, he felt like he was having a headache now.

"Yeah, yeah. Can we just change the topic?"

"No, we're not! I don't think she has a date yet. Why don't you ask her?" Ino still prying him about it.

"She'll go with Kiba, okay?" He said it a little louder with furrowed brows. Ino and Choji noticed his irritation.

"Ohhhh, so that's why your kinda moody today huh? I can read your mind Shikamaru" She chuckles

"Don't worry Shikamaru, I'll join you being a wallflower" Choji said, trying to comfort his friend.

"Anyways, in case you wanted to dance I'll be there for you both" Ino said to his two bestfriends, assuring them that she'll be there during the ball if they wanted to dance.

"Thanks, Ino" Choji said

Shikamaru is still silent in his seat, munching the meat and rice on his plate. He could just make himself busy during the ball so he wouldn't think about it much.

Ino turned her gaze to Shikamaru again "Just a suggestion Shikamaru, it's okay to be true to yourself sometimes, you know"

"What are you talking about Ino?" He replied but knows what she was talking about

"I'll leave it to your brain on how you'll interpret that one" Ino smiled at him while giving a portion of cooked meat to Choji and him.

After they finished dinner, the three waved each other goodbyes and walked to the path leading to their homes. Shikamaru glanced at his phone again and a photo of Temari greeted him every time.
