Chapter 1

It had been 6 months. 6 of the longest months of Beatrice's life, 6 months since she let Ava go through the Arc. 5 Months since Gillian had told them that nothing she tried got any reactions from the Arc, and in her professional opinion the Arc was dead. 4 months since Beatrice's tight control finally left her, the sleepless nights. The Arc failing. But what had really been the last straw was when her sisters had accepted that Ava was lost.

The tidal wave of emotions hit, Beatrice barley managed to keep it together long enough to get to her room, the moment the door closed behind her the desk was the first piece of furniture to face her wraith. The first but not the last by the time exhaustion had won over her, the room was a mess of broken wood, ripped sheets, torn curtains. And as she stood there panting heavily with tears falling from her cheeks her shaking hands raised up to her habit pulling it from her head.

She had stared at the item of clothing for a moment It could have been seconds, minutes or hours. But finally, she let the fabric fall from her fingers to the floor. It was the last time she had worn one. The next day mother Superion and Camilla had exchanged worried looks but chose to say nothing, the following day Beatrice had woken dressed in her civilian clothes, packed her duffle bag with the limited processions she owned and said goodbye to her sisters, mother and the OCS.

3 and half months since she had arrived back at her's and Ava's apartment in the Alps, returned to the bar. To stock checking and invoicing. To serving customers some regulars others just passing by. Beatrice was no stranger to the feeling of loneliness, it was almost a comfort to her. That was until Ava. Until Ava had stormed into her well organized life and made her feel, and now she was gone, and Beatrice was once again alone. It was as if all the air and light from the world had been taken. And she was lost in the dark gasping for breath and very much alone.

3 months since the voice of Ava had started to haunt her, the first time she had heard her it was late one night when the bar was closed and she was restocking. She would often work late into the night by herself, it was better than going back to the apartment that was full of her and Ava.

The voice had been barely a whisper at first but grew louder and louder till Beatrice had raced around the rooms of the bar searching desperately for the voice's owner. She would recognize that voice anywhere, it had been in everyone one of her dreams for months. So she searched for Ava. The voice repeating itself over and over again, just one word. Just one word that Beatrice had been sure she would never hear again.

"Bea…"

But the bar was empty, and Beatrice's heart sank to the floor along with her knees. She had stayed there that night, awake desperately staining her ears for Ava's voice again. The night was silent.

That had been the first time but not the last, she would hear Ava at the bar in the apartment, when she was training back at the lake. She was starting the doubt her own mind, and the distrust only got worse.

2 months since she had first seen Ava, she had been running the trails that she and Ava would run together all those months ago. When she notice's a figure standing in the distance. Even with her back to Beatrice she knew that stance, the loose posture. Her heart raced and her pace quickened as she rushed towards the figure, the sound of her feet hitting the dirt floor filling the air. Then the figure looked over her shoulder a smile spreading over her face.

Beatrice had chocked back a sob as she ran impossibly faster "AVA!" she had shouted across the distance between them, all it had taken was a blink. Just one and Ava was gone as if she was never there.

Beatrice had turned in circles screaming for the other girl, pleading with God that they bring her back. Demanded that they return her to her. But again, she found herself alone kneeling on the floor, her hands gripped the dirt and grass below her as her tears flowed freely.

Just as Ava's voice stayed with her so did the image of her, but every time she would try to reach the other woman she would vanish as if never there. Beatrice accepted her minds weakness. That the voice and image of the woman that she loved was just in her mind, and even though she knew this she couldn't bring herself to want the small glimpse of Ava that she saw or heard to go away.

Which brings us to today, a normal day for Beatrice. Training, work, more training and home to her lonely apartment. Or so she fought, but as she pushed her key into her front door her body froze. Years of training in the OCS do not disappear in a few months, she quietly rested her ear to the door hearing movement inside. Just one person who was very light footed, her money was on highly trained too.

Her free hand slid behind her jacket to grasp the blades handle that she had on her at all times, with one deep steading breath she stilled her mind and body before pushing the door open and dropping into a tight roll till her body stopped Infront of the familiar intruder. The knife now pressed against the other persons exposed throat.

"Its nice to see you too, Beatrice" Lilith smirked down slightly at the blade still held against her skin. Beatrice searched the taller woman's eyes to see if she could read her intentions, then her eyes scanned across her torso and legs to spot any weapons. Before her eyes widened as they took in the fullness of her belly.

"Ah yes, so…there's something I need to tell you" Lilith whispered out as she slowly rubbed her pregnant stomach.
