Chapter 1: A New World

Hello dear reader! This story has been inspired from various works of fiction and it takes place within an alternate version of the "A world of dinosauroids (with Simon Roy)" which was created by the paleoartists C.M. Kosemen and Simon Roy.

Copyright Notice: Please note that I do not take credit for the original ideas that came from these people or from other organizations.

Given the fact that my stories featuring the viewpoints of fictional characters are not doing so well, I decided to stop working on those stories and instead work on stories that are self-insert. This is because I don't have much motivation anymore in doing those kinds of stories. The stories that I stopped working on will be deleted. I am sorry, my readers, for the loss of such material but I want to start anew.

SI POV

"What happened to me? What happened to us? I was just walking along the street. Then there was that man who threw a glass container of some kind within the crowd. After that, everyone started becoming sick. Wounds and lesions started appearing on our faces. We were running around when that happened. Then we started vomiting everywhere we could before darkness came over me." Those were my thoughts upon waking up near the entrance of a cave. As I walked further to the light, the cave opened up to reveal a forest outside that was lightly covered in snow. The rocks surrounding the cave ran from north to south and seemed to be part of the mountain behind me.

When I stood there in the early morning sunlight, I looked at my hands and saw that there were only two fingers and one thumb on each of them. My digits were clawed and scaly similar to a reptilian hand. Looking around further on my body, I realized that I looked like some kind of bizarre avian creature. I had a gray colored beak and most of my body seemed to be covered in vantablack bird feathers. I also had a pair of four-toed clawed feet and a stiff tail at my back. There was also the fact that my spine was mostly parallel to the ground instead of fully upright like those of humanoid beings.

Seeing those kinds of features reminded me of a certain kind of fictional creature created by speculative biologists. That kind of creature was the dinosauroid or Avisapiens, particularly the Avisapiens tataricus species. The Avisapiens were a sentient feathered dinosaur species that people hypothesized would exist if the mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous Period did not happen. As for their size, the Avisapiens were as tall as the height of a human's hips and perhaps three meters long.

So it seemed that I had now become a dinosauroid but there were other features that made me different from the normal dinosauroids or Avisapiens. Those features in particular included the four short, flexible, feathery wings I could feel on my back as well as the incredibly durable golden glowing orbs scattered throughout my body. By focusing my mind, I could look through those orbs as if they were additional eyes. There were also these strange golden crystals growing out of my body. Another thing I felt was that I was not bothered that much about the cold. While I was covered in feathers, I still felt like I was in the tropics. Those kinds of features made me look more like an angelic being than a creature of mere flesh and blood.

Further thinking on the bizarre bodily features, I had was interrupted by my stomach growling for lack of food. Oddly enough, I felt my instincts telling me that the trees, particularly their bark, would suffice as food for now. I walked to one of the pine trees here in the forest. The pine tree loomed large in my vision, much larger than if I was at human height. Thinking about this, it seems that I am currently much shorter than a human.

The further growling of my stomach made me focus on getting some food to eat. I let my instincts guide me as I sliced off thin strips of pine bark with my surprisingly sharp claws. Once they were in my hands, I enthusiastically began to peel off the white part from the dry outer covering and began to eat them. The stuff tasted sweet to my tongue. I also gathered snow from the ground into my hands and then I ate the snow in order to lessen my thirst.

After eating enough to be satisfied, I began to think of what else to do. But before I could do so, I felt a slight headache as words, thoughts, and all sorts of information began pouring into my mind. My body also began to act on its own, swiftly climbing up the pine tree before holding on to it for dear life. Mercifully, the pain stopped as my thoughts became clear.

Among the info sent into my head, there was a message addressed to me.

[ Greetings young man. You are probably wondering what happened to you before you got here and why you are like this. Well, I am what you primitives know as an Alien Space Bat. As for what happened to you earlier, a formerly unknown terrorist group launched a coordinated biological attack that wiped out thousands of lives in cities across the world during the initial strike.

But not only were people killed but a lot of crops and livestock were lost as well. This eventually led to a nuclear war as the affected countries found out that the terrorists were backed by a few rogue nations such as North Korea. So sorry to say that your version of humanity was just one of many others that succumbed to self-destruction.

As for why you are alive again, you are a person of a certain mindset that might make things entertaining here in this new world. This world in particular is one of those parallel universes of the original Dinosauroid dimension. The different dinosauroid tribes are progressing on their own path to civilization but they will go through the same kinds of social problems that plagued human history.

You are a being that is composed of dinosauroid DNA, human DNA, and the essences of esoteric beings. Your magical powers, as you will discover later will work at both the positive and the negative side of the scale so to say. You also don't need to poop because your body can break down waste material into their pure atomic elements. These purified elements would be stored in a limited pocket dimension for you to use later.

In order to ensure your continued survival, you have also been granted the genes of a Perpetual. You could also transform other sentient beings into beings like you. Through training and other activities, you will become more powerful both physically and magically.

As for your current location, you are somewhere in Eurasia, particularly in the southern part of the Ural Mountains. Specifically, you are close to Mount Yamantau which has the coordinates 54.255°N 58.102°E. The Ural Mountains contain a large variety of minerals which may be of use to you. With all these magical gifts granted to you, I wish a long, happy, and interesting existence for you. Goodbye for now, for I might speak to you again in the future. ]

It was noon when I came back down from the pine tree. I had been thinking over and over again about the message sent by this supposed alien space bat. I felt greatly saddened about the death of my loved ones and the rest of humanity. I spent a few minutes letting out sad caws as my tears fell to the ground.

But I also felt frustrated at how my version of mankind had destroyed itself so easily. Still, given the vastness of the multiverse, there would be universes where mankind would prosper. I then resolved to make the best of the new life that was given to me, which would involve a lot of plotting and scheming to unify this world and its people. I suppose that I should help unite the different Dinosauroid tribes under my banner in order to ensure that they would not fall as humanity did.

In order to accomplish those goals and to ensure my own survival, I needed tools. To create one of these tools, I first tore out one of the golden crystals from my body. I let out loud cawing noises when I did that. The wound began to quickly close itself afterward. I then began to look for a hard stone. After finding a gray colored one, I channeled my strength and began to slam the stone into the crystal in order to remove some pieces of it. I did that until the crystal gained a sharp enough edge.

Once the edge was sharp enough, I channeled my magic through the altered crystal, speaking the words that meant "Singing Edge" in a strange birdlike language until the crystal knife glowed and hummed. The crystal knife was humming because it was now vibrating at ultrasonic frequencies which would enable it to easily slice through objects. After that was done, I began to slowly slice and hack at the pine tree. While grabbing more bark to eat, I also began cutting the wood until I got out a long straight piece of wood that was two meters long.

After getting that piece of wood, I tore out another of my golden crystals. Holding a crystal with fresh blood on one hand and the piece of wood on the other, I channeled my magic through while jamming them together. I spoke again in that birdlike language saying words that meant "Connection Everlasting" during the process. A few minutes later, I held my brand-new wizard's staff.

I still spent some time later carefully carving the magical words I used across my wizard staff. These letters looked surprisingly like the letters of the English Alphabet though the words themselves were supposedly from the magical Enochian Language. This Enochian Language was thought by some authors to be the language that was used by God and the angels. After I was done with carving the magical words, I thought about what else I should do for the rest of the day since there were only a few hours left before nightfall.

Well, one thing I should do is to look for other kinds of food aside from tree bark. Also, I should make my cave more defensible in order to ward off predators. In particular, there were the various species of Tyrannoraptors that roamed this world to be wary of, especially the seven-meter long Melanorodromeus euceratus or "Black Thing" species. There was also the Pantherdromeus species of solitary tyrannoraptor that lived on this continent. There were also the Eblisornis species and the Bosornithoides erythrops from the Oviraptoriformes clade to worry about along with the Rhynchovenators.

Aside from the tyrannoraptors, there were also mammalian marsupial carnivores that roamed this world. There was the badger-like Mephitursoides that was close to the height of a bear. There were also the Pseudokynos that looked extremely dog-like and reached the height of a human's hip. There was also the hyena-like Krokutadasyurus that also reached the height of a human's hip.

In order to better defend my home, I began to carve magical words and symbols onto twelve pine trees. The locations of these twelve pine trees formed the points of a dodecagon. The words written on those trees were "Fearful Place." After the words were carved onto the bark of these trees, I focused on applying magical energy to them while draining the life force from the pine tree where I got my staff from.

I had done this bit of sorcery to create a simple magical ward that would dissuade predators from approaching the area by making them think that there was something very dangerous to be found here. I also regained vitality and magical energy from draining that one tree. The trees where I carved those magical words would not be chopped down since the ward would continue to be powered by their lifeforce and only a tiny amount of my magic. The magical ward would cover a square area measuring 225 square meters. That was supposedly the average lot size for the territory of a house.

To prepare for nightfall, I chopped up some wood from the now dead pine tree so that I would have some firewood for my use. I also climbed up the tree and cut off the branches so that I would have some bedding material. By the time night had fallen, I was safe in my cave with a warm fire at its mouth. I made the fire by piling a bunch of firewood together before igniting it with a spark of magical energy launched from my wizard staff.

Before I slept, I thought of what I should do to unite the various Dinosauroid tribes. From what I could recall about the Dinosauroids, there were two species. One of them, the brown feathered Avisapiens saurotheos, were settlement builders. The tribes of the black feathered crow-like Avisapiens tataricus on the other hand were mostly nomads. I don't think any of the tribes have managed to invent agriculture yet. This meant that they were still living the hunter-gatherer lifestyle. Though some of them might have managed to domesticate bull birds.

I also recalled in particular that some of the A. tataricus tribes practice slavery. Those tribes would usually go on slave raids against the A. saurotheos villages. I would have to gather enough followers around me before confronting them. There were also those A. tataricus tribes that killed-off members of their tribe that were cross-beaked or had long, curved beaks out of superstitious belief while the other A. tataricus tribes would let them become shamans.

Before making contact with the other dinosauroids, I need to make myself stronger. Especially since my body is not yet fully developed and my wings are too small for flight. At least my arm and leg strength are above normal. One of the other things I had going for me was an interactive world map construct in my mind. This map confirmed that I was indeed at Mount Yamantau in the Southern Ural Mountains. The map also showed the location of possible rivers within the area.

Aside from the immaturity of my physical body, I would also have to train my magical powers and create some useful technology for survival. So for now I would have to stay in this place for perhaps a few more years. I let out a small caw as I laid my body down on the mat of pine branches and began to sleep.

As the next day dawned, I went out of the cave and saw that the fire was reduced to cold ashes. It seems I would have to fully chop down the dead pine tree if I wanted to have more firewood for tonight. I looked around, seeing if any predators had approached my cave. It seems that the magical ward I made is working properly.

While I could eat snow to satisfy my thirst, I still need to find a river or another source of drinking water. Aside from searching for a source of water, I have to look for more sources of food as well as create more tools. The crystals sprouting from my body are useful for making tools, but I need a way to mass produce them in order to create a lot of tools. Thankfully, there is a simple solution for that problem.

A foot away from the dead pine tree, I tore out one of the golden crystals from my body before planting it in the soil. I chanted magical words that meant "Grow, transform, and multiply." This spell would ensure that the planted crystal will draw in various minerals into itself as it grows larger. The crystal would also form a number of buds of itself according to a set number. This time it was set at twelve. As for how long it would take for it to grow, a few hours would be needed.

With the crystal planted I began to walk until I got outside of the ward. Once I was outside the ward, I began to look for something to hunt. Hmm, a mammal or a dinosaur? What do I need from them? I began to sniff the air, hoping to smell blood or something interesting. Just in case I needed more help I pointed my staff outward and uttered a spell "Find Prey."

The crystal at the end of the staff lit up and a few seconds later, I felt in my mind the direction where I could find a possible prey animal. The direction was currently to the Southeast of Mount Yamantau. While I have not made a travois yet to carry stuff, I could use the pocket dimension to store things instead.

As I walked in the direction of my target, I made shortstops to gather tree bark and snow as snacks. I also took time to gather stones, soil, and mushrooms. The mushrooms I gathered would be used to create a mushroom farm back at the cave. I was also happy to find insects out here. In particular, there was a group of cockroaches hiding under a pile of leaf litter. I just placed the leaf litter into my pocket dimension for now.

After an hour of walking, I eventually came across my target. My target was a small mammal that had been very recently killed by a gray feathered Eblisornis. The Eblisornis was close to the size of an adult dinosauroid, which meant that it was slightly larger than me. The Eblisornis had just stopped eating the mostly consumed mammal and was now looking at me.

I focused on it while thinking of a spell to use. I did not want to use fire against the creature since I wanted its meat and bones mostly intact. As the creature was starting to charge at me, I then knew what spell to use.

"Forceful Strike."

I sent a strong telekinetic strike that slammed into the chest of the Eblisornis. Its charge suddenly hitting such resistance caused it to fall to the ground. It tried to get up again but I sent out more and more telekinetic strikes that were aimed at its head. Eventually, it died as its skull had caved in from the repeated magical attacks.

I was breathing hard since I had let loose a significant amount of magical force. However, I should not wait here too long since our combat might have attracted the attention of a dangerous predator. Given the creature's large size, I could not place it within my pocket dimension, so I pulled out my crystal knife and began to enchant it with the Singing Edge spell before butchering the carcass of the Eblisornis.

I drove my crystal knife into its belly and sliced it from front to back. Then I started to remove its guts. I stored away the organs of its digestive system into my pocket dimension. I also stored its heart, liver, and lungs. I also cut off the legs, the arms, and the head of the carcass. I also scraped off some of the meat on its chest.

Once I was done taking what I could get for now, I quickly headed back to my cave. I increased my pace when I heard the sounds of heavy footsteps and growls back there after several minutes had passed. It was noon when I returned from my hunting trip.

The golden crystal I had placed earlier in the ground had grown into a clump of twelve crystals that were each three feet in height. While looking at them, I thought of what I could do with them now. One of the ideas swimming through my head was about creating an actual ranged weapon I could use by itself instead of relying only on spells. I recalled information about the dinosauroids being able to use spear throwers, but I was not sure if they had arm structure for using bows and arrows. I was also not sure whether the dinosauroid had invented spear throwers during this time.

With the magical crystals I have with me, I could try to create advanced technology based on them like what the Atlanteans did with their magic crystals. In particular, I wanted to create a gun that could fire energy blasts. However, I needed to have the right tools to carve out rocks in the desired shape. Those tools would be hammers, saws, and chisels. I would also need to make drills so that I can bore holes.

While it would be great to have an advanced weapon soon, I should also make simpler extra weapons for both melee and range attack. The atlatl could serve as a simple ranged weapon while a barred spear would be used in melee combat. The spear thankfully would not be one of those mouth spear versions that the regular dinosauroids are using. This was because my arms were strong enough to grip and hold it like how human beings would.

The atlatl would be made from one of the upper leg bones I got from the Eblisornis. The atlatl would be etched with magical scripts that would allow me to throw the ammunition faster with even more power and accuracy. The ammunition for the atlatl would be small wooden spears or darts close to 2.7 meters long. These wooden spears would have feathers attached to their rear ends for better stability in flight. Crystal shards would serve as their spear tip. These crystal shards would have magical scripts etched into them. Those scripts could give the spears the ability to unleash a blast of fire or electricity on impact with the target. Magical scripts written on the wood itself would give the spears different kinds of magical effects such as better penetrating power and longer flight.

As for the barred spear, it would have a long sharp crystal in the center while a pair of short crystals would serve as a crossguard beneath the blade. Magical scripts would be etched on both the wooden haft and on the crystals. The magical scripts etched onto the wood would make the spear stronger, stiffer, and harder. The magical scripts etched onto the crystals would allow me to make quicker attacks and blocks as well as magically targeting and penetrating potential weak points on the enemy. The spear would have an overall length of three meters.

Another possible melee weapon I can use would be something akin to the Flemish Goedendag with an additional crystal disk attached to it. A goedendag would have a wooden haft with a length ranging from 92 cm to 150 cm while its diameter would range from 5 cm to 10 cm. The weapon could pierce targets with its sharp tip while the heavy weight of the haft could be used for bashing stuff.

The spear tip for my version of the weapon would be made from magical crystals while adding a disk of crystals to it would increase its ability to bash targets. Magical scripts could be etched onto both the wood and the crystal so that it would become easier to swing around as well as increasing its piercing and bashing capabilities. The tip could also be made to unleash a blast of energy that would blow up the material it penetrated.

Making those things will have to come later since I have to deal with the meat I got from the Eblisornis. I will have to preserve some of it for later use. Perhaps a wooden box etched with a preservation script would be used for those purposes. One large one for home use and a portable version that could be carried on my back.

Feeling hungry from having spent a lot of magic during my hunting trip, I decided to grab the heart and some of the meat stored in my pocket dimension and eat it raw. I placed the heart on a pile of stones which I had brought out from my pocket dimension. I laid down on my belly and began to peck and slice at the heart and meat with my beak. The taste of raw flesh was better than tree bark though it was a bit bland due to my current lack of spices.

After I was done eating, I rested for a bit. I began to think of the tools I could build today. An ax for chopping, a saw for cutting, an adze for woodworking, and a drill for boring holes. The ax would be made from a wooden handle and a crystal. The saw would be made from a length of wood with crystal shards forming a row of teeth. The adze would be made from a wooden handle and a crystal attached perpendicular to the handle. The drill would be a crystal shard attached to a stick.

The stick would also have a rock disk attached to it. The rock disk would have a rotation script etched into it so that it could rotate at high speeds as long as magic was fed to it. A quartet of wooden sticks would be attached around the drill stick. These other sticks would be used as a handhold that would keep the drill in place as it rotated. For that purpose, the sticks would have reduced friction scripts etched into them.

From the bones of the Eblisornis, I could make simple bone tools like spoons, knives, awls, pins, fishhooks, needles, flakers, hide scrapers and beamers. I could also make musical instruments as well as harpoons, sickles, knives, daggers, pin-like tools, smoothers, quill flatteners, arrow-shaft wrenches, fleshers, hide grainers, beads, and snares. Writing magical scripts on them would enhance the performance of these tools.

Aside from making tools, I thought of what I could do with the cockroaches hiding in that leaf pile. Some sort of cockroach farm to provide a source of food close to home. Perhaps a chamber of some sort would have to be carved out of the cave. As for the future mushroom farm, I would have to carve out even more extra space in my cave to fit it in. Magical scripts etched into rocks or crystal would keep the roaches in their new home as well as increasing their growth rate and breeding rate. Magical crystals that are implanted where the mushrooms are growing would influence the size and expansion rate of the mushrooms.

I should create some sort of container to hold water in. Something like a wooden tube with a screw on cap for carrying small amounts of water. For storing large amounts of water, a large water tank made of wood or stone could work. If I want a source of water within my home, I will have to dig a well. The well would have to be 100 feet to 200 feet deep in order to get the purest water. I would also have to make the walls of the well reinforced so that it would not collapse.

To increase my load carrying capacity without having to rely on my pocket dimension, I would have to create a travois. The travois would be made out of two long lengths of wood that are connected together to form an elongated isosceles triangle. A third, fourth, or more sticks would be bound across them to provide additional support as well as a place to put the cargo.

Aside from these things, I would think about ways to further utilize my magical crystals. I would plant more clusters of them across my territory though not too much since they might completely drain all the minerals from the soil. I could stick some crystals on trees for the purposes of creating biological streetlamps that could give me illumination at night. I could insert a crystal into a stone or group of stones and turn the whole thing into a magical hand grenade. I could also create a vertical wind turbine machine with crystals in its generator part so that it could convert mechanical energy into magical energy or electrical energy. I could even try making some sort of oven where the crystals attached to it would deliver stored heat energy into its inner chambers.

When I become skilled enough, I could try melting the crystals down to create a moldable substance that can be forged and crafted into various objects. I could create wires, cables, or even glassware of various kinds out of the melted crystals. The other things I could make out of it would be plate armor, casings, etc.

If I further develop my magical powers, I could begin creating golems or other kinds of magical constructs as war machines or labor drones. I could even create flying crystal powered vehicles if my magic level and the magic levels of my crystals have become sufficient. With high enough magical power levels, I could straight up create stuff out of pure magic like what wizards in anime can do.

To improve my magical levels, I would have to keep practicing my magical spells, performing rituals, and meditating for hours on end. I could even eat some of the grown magical crystals to get extra magical energy. When I get old enough, I could possibly try entering the dreams of sentient beings and communicating with them.

Not only do I have to practice my magical spellcasting, I would also have to improve my body so that it can handle large amounts of magical energy. This would involve doing various types of physical exercise and other tasks over the course of several years. Hopefully, the strength of my physical form would become just as strong as the superheroes and magical beings found in anime.

To practice my magical spells, I would start blowing up parts of my cave so that I can expand its space. I could also try using magic to manipulate the elements around me, whether in the classical sense or in the chemical sense. To practice ritual spell casting, I could create a ritual circle or some kind of altar. To create those things, I would have to clear an area of land, harden it with fire, then place the necessary material and magical scripts there.

After I was done thinking up the stuff I needed to do, I got up from the ground and started to do some work. While I would have these tasks to complete, I also need to ensure that I would have enough food, water, sleep, and heat for my needs. Hopefully when my magical powers have advanced quite a lot, I would be able to have no need for such daily requirements.
