I've Got The Whole World In My Hands
It wasn't often that Mihawk stayed to drink with them following a duel between the two. It was like he was always on the search for his next conquest of power, never taking a moment to just sit in solidary with anyone else. It made Shanks' heart soar knowing that Mihawk finally agreed to stay and party with him.
Sure, they got their alone time. Mihawk always made sure of it, or Shanks just wouldn't return to the ship until after spending a bit of time with the elder pirate. This was different. Mihawk never typically would stay and hang around with his nakama. Preferring a quieter setting. Which was fine, but Shanks adored everything about his relationship with Mihawk, and for once, he just wanted to be able to show off that they were in fact together.
It had been a year since the start of whatever the hell their relationship was. Shanks wasn't even sure what to call it. They never put an official title on them, but he would like to think that they were definitely more than just typical friends with benefits. Rivals with benefits? They were technically rivals. He didn't really care. As long as if he actually got to spend time with Mihawk. That's all he cared about.
It had actually taken him completely by surprise when Mihawk had offered to stay for a party after hearing the pleas of his nakama. It had actually worked.
So, here they were, partying away with alcohol being passed around. Food had been made by Lucky Roux and already was sitting out for whoever wanted to eat anything. Shanks was leaning against the rail of the ship next to Mihawk. Mihawk was leaning back as well, arms crossed over his chest with a bottle in hand. Some of his nakama were dancing around the deck within loud stomps and yells.
This actually felt pretty tame for what they normally could get like. Though, Shanks might attribute that to the fact that he was only tipsy and not full on sloshed yet. When they were all drunken out of their minds, that was a different story.
Shanks hummed along to the tune that was being played, swatting around his hand for no reason except to do it. Through the corner of his eye, he could see Mihawk eyeing him with those beautiful golden eyes. Eyes that Shanks loved being on him. They were always so sharp. Mihawk was pretty hard to read on a normal day, but there was always this glint in his eye that always just mesmerized Shanks.
The red-haired Captain paused for a second, peering over at Mihawk. Mihawk's complete attention was on him. Like he was calculating for a moment as his gaze moved up and down Shanks' body. For a split second, there was a self-conscious feeling that ran over him as he crossed his arms over his half-way unbuttoned shirt.
"What?" Shanks questioned.
"Nothing." Mihawk stated, taking another drink from his bottle before he was setting it against the rail, "Just admiring the view."
Shanks felt a bit of heat rise on his face as he dropped his arms, tilting his head against his hand as he brought it up to cover the back of his neck. "I didn't take you for being cheesy."
The elder Swordsman snorted, an amused smirk on his lips as he motioned out to the dancing pirates. "I would take looking at you over them any day."
Shanks rolled his eyes, taking a drink from the cup in his hand. "If you say so." He whispered as he swallowed the liquid. He peered up at the quickly darkening sky for a moment. The stars were starting to come out now. It was one thing that Shanks loved. The beauty that the world held. Like the stars that were above them at night. The sun that kept them warm. The water that took them all over the world. The trees. Everything. "The world is beautiful, isn't it?" It felt like the alcohol talking for him, but in all honesty, it was the truth.
"Yeah, it is." Mihawk immediately said back. Shanks chuckled for a second. Maybe, Mihawk was just agreeing with him just so he would be quiet for a moment. "You know, Shanks, I can fit the entire world in my hands."
Shanks' eyebrow shot up as he turned his gaze back to Mihawk. Mihawk was looking up at the sky when he looked over. The red head turned his body to face him, laughing in disbelief for a moment, "Are you drunk already? You've barely drank anything."
Mihawk made a noise, shaking his head. The older pirate looked back at him a second later, that glint that Shanks recognized flashing within those golden eyes. It felt like time had stopped for a moment as Mihawk reached up, cupping either side of Shanks' face. His thumb moving over the ends of the three scars that covered Shanks' left eye. The younger pirate's eyes widened as the air caught in his throat as Mihawk's eyes moved over his face.
Mihawk leaned in, ghosting his lips over Shanks', muttering out, "I have the whole world in my hands."
He wasn't sure if it was from shock or if it was just because he was tipsy that his grip on his cup had loosened. The cup clattered to the deck below, spilling out the contents over his sandaled feet, but he didn't have a care in the world.
He really wanted to blame the alcohol for the redness that came surging to his face. Mihawk had chuckled, leaning in, and pressing their lips together. It sent the spark down Shanks' spine that he had been so accustomed too as he melted into it. As soon as it started, it was over again as Mihawk pulled back.
"See, the entire world can fit into the palm of my hand."
Shanks could only blink. He dropped his mouth open to say something, finding that he couldn't actually form any words whatsoever. Mihawk looked far too amused by Shanks' dilemma as he pulled away, leaving the younger pirate sputtering to try and form a coherent sentence. That had to be the singlehandedly most cheesy thing he had ever heard come out of Mihawk's mouth. Ever.
But it apparently got the desired effect as Shanks rose his hand up to his lips, covering his mouth. Mihawk hummed, tilting his head as his smirk only seemed to get bigger. That deviant sparkle in his eye as he added, "If I had known that's all it took to get you to be speechless, I would have done it sooner."
Shanks was cursing internally to himself that he couldn't find a single damn word to say as Mihawk completely pulled away from him, grabbing his bottle and taking a drink. Returning back to how he had been leaning before as if nothing happened.
Shanks could hear the quiet on the deck as he turned his head enough to look at his nakama. Seeing that they were just as amused as Mihawk looked.
"Damn, Hawkeyes broke the Boss." Yasopp snickered.
"We kind of need him, Hawkeyes." Benn drawled, taking a puff from his cigarette with a smirk settled on his lips.
Mihawk hummed, shrugging, "He'll be fine once his brain calculates what just happened."
That pulled Shanks right out of his speechless stupor as he gaped at the older Swordsman, "Hey now! I'm a respectable pirate Captain!" He exclaimed.
"See." Mihawk stated, motioning to Shanks, "Fixed."
Shanks grumbled for a second, crossing his arms as a pout came to his lips as he leaned back against the rail. "You're an asshole."
"And yet you picked me." Mihawk shot back.
"I know." Shanks hissed, "And now I'm—"
He paused as Mihawk smirked at him again, tilting his head back as he said, "The most important person in my life."
Shanks absolutely did not find himself speechless again. It's the alcohol. It was all the alcohol's fault. Mihawk had looped his arm around his shoulders, pressing a gentle kiss into his forehead but Shanks could still that smirk there. The red head let the smile come to his face as he leaned into it. He supposed it was alright.
Considering, Mihawk was his world too.
